Lost 100lbs almost 8 years ago, it’s been quite a journey

When I was in my early 20s, I was 5’ 4” and about 245 pounds. I have been overweight pretty much all my life, and I decided enough was enough. I got off the couch and went outside for a walk, I started tracking my calories, and I lost 100lbs in about a year and a half.

In the 8 years since I lost the weight, a lot has happened. I’m so, so proud that I’ve kept the majority of it off. However, it hasn’t been easy. Not long after my weight loss, I developed a nasty drinking problem which led to me gaining a lot of weight back. Those were tough years and I felt like a failure. About four years ago, however, I gave up alcohol cold turkey and haven’t touched it since. This led to me losing a TON of weight very very fast, to the point where I even stopped getting my period!

I weigh about 166 pounds now. My lowest weight as an adult has been about 130. I think I want to try to maintain a 140-145 pound weight. I’m good at losing weight, but historically I’m bad at maintaining what I’ve lost. Ive kept the majority of my 100lb weight loss off, but I want to lose this last 20 pounds that seems determined to stay! I want to maintain the weight loss that I worked so hard for all those years ago. I want to fit into my wedding dress again.

It’s been a long journey, full of victories and failures, but I guess it’s never too late to start over.

Minimizing loose skin

Hi guys! I’m on a weight loss journey right now and I’m the highest weight I’ve ever been. I’m currently 5’3 and 250 lbs. I know that’s obese, trust me I feel it everyday already. Since I was a teen my body usually stayed within the 170-180 range and never went higher than that until I hit my highest weight at the time in 2016 which was 216.

I quickly managed to bring myself back down to 170 over the course of three months. This was from November 2016 to Jan/Feb 2017. Then a month or so later I reached my lowest weight of 160. But around that time is also when I got into a relationship and over the course of two and a half years I managed to pile all of the weight back on and then some. My goal is to lose about 100 lbs right now which would put me in the 150 range.

I can get myself there no problem because now I am serious about applying myself. The only question for others who have gone through major weight loss as well is about loose skin. I know 100 lbs is a big loss and it’ll definitely change my body but I was wondering if anyone had any tips on minimizing it. Like will I have less loose skin if I work out while I lose weight instead of just diet or will that not matter? Is it just a lost cause at this point?

I don’t think I’ll have enough to where I’ll need skin removal surgery cuz when I lost weight before the only really big problem area was my arms but they literally just got smaller along with the rest of my body. There wasn’t any extra skin.

Short overweight girls and weight loss

Curious what everyone's BMR is? Especially short girls that don't workout, how do you lose weight if you're BMR is only like 1400!? I am a chubby 5'3 girl that likes to eat as much as my tall and active friends and obviously us short girls can't do that as freely unless we are very physically active, which I am not. I can easily eat 1900+/day without realizing unless I keep my food tracker updated. I only recently been thinking a lot about my BMR and my fat percentage and the reality that short girls burn less calories overall due to how petite we are built.

If you're not sure of your BMR can go to the below and make sure to use the Katch-McArdle formula to add your body fast percentage as that has a huge factor in your BMR! (Body fat percentage test in the past)

A beginner

Hi everyone , i am at the very start of my weight loss journey. Iam 26 years old , and about 80 pounds overweight. I started a diet like 5 weeks ago , and i am following it nicely, no problem here I also walk for 40 minutes 3 times a week , this one was hard but i am getting better at committing to it too. I've read multiplie articles about how lifting weights is good for weight loss too , but i can't find any beginners guide to that. I assume lifting for the sake of weight loss isn't the same as lifting for getting more buff? If that make any sense. Like how many days should i lift in a week? What muscles to train? Should i lift heavy or light weights? Thats how clueless i am. Any advice would be much appreciated :)

Advice needed on workout method

Hello dear redditors,

first of all, thank you for this wonderful subreddit that already helped me a lot on my weight loss journey. I'm not a native English speaker but I still hope that I can phrase my question in a way that it's understandable.

I'm looking for some advice on sensible workout methods/schedules. I started with a weight of 257lb/117kg and lost around 15lb/7kg so far (food wise I count calories and stay in a healthy deficit). I managed to exercise every day for 2 months now, mostly biking, walking, swimming and some dance workouts which all focus on fatburn/cardio.

Would you say that the approach (to focus on cardio training) is good or should I also start to train specific muscles and also include other training methods, that focus on a different thing? (Like strength training for example). What, in your opinion, should I include, workout wise, because it's important for an overall healthy body?

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post.

Have a wonderful day :)

I tracked my consistency for 30 days and lost 7 lbs

20F, 5’8“, SW:195 CW:188 GW:150

This might sound obvious to some, but I still wanted to share. I’ve restarted my weight loss journey in April and figured the only way I was gonna make progress was to track the days I stayed within my calories and the days I went over. My goal was to be 80% consistent and I met it by staying within my calories 24/30 days.

I used a white board and put a red X on each day I stayed on track and a black O on each day I went over my calories (this method was first developed by Jordan Syatt I believe). My goal of staying 80% consistent allowed me to enjoy social gatherings (this month’s main event was Mother’s Day) without guilt and without ruining my progress.

Overall having a visual representation of my consistency really helped me stay on track and having consistency as a goal meant wasn’t obsessing over the scale since I had another data point to measure.

All this to say that I lost 7lbs in a month (averaging a pretty sutainable 1.75lbs a week) and I highly recommend visually tracking your consistency to anyone trying to lose weight or trying to form any good habit really.

Lost 45 lbs

I recently lost about 45 lbs and it took a lot of work. I tried to do it as healthy as possible and the my biggest goal was to stop binge eating. It’s nice to feel like I like the way my body looks a little more now but I mostly wanted to change my relationship with food. I started my weight loss journey after finally meeting with a psychologist for other mental health issues that were going on. A few of my co workers have made nasty remarks like “you’re withering now! You are too skinny” and “wow you need to stop losing weight are you okay!?! you looked better before”. This isn’t a job I want to make a career out of but I still feel sad over it. It just hurts my feelings because I’m just trying to do better. I’m a healthy weight now and I would never make comments like that to people I work with. How am I supposed to respond to these comments? I have been ignoring them. Has anyone else gotten feedback like that from people they know
