Body type question

So I’m currently down 20 pounds with more to go, and I’m very aware that people’s body types are different and not all body inspirations are achievable even after weight loss and workouts, but the problem is I don’t KNOW if it’s unachievable. My eyes and mirror are unreliable. Basically, I’m 5’7, 144 lbs, and 15 years old. My lower rib cage is about 28-29 inches in circumference. Is this considered wide, average, or small? I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this, so if it isn’t my bad and please direct me towards the right place, but everywhere else I asked just gave me answers about how I should accept my body the way it is. Because I WILL, I just want to know. Thanks to anyone who can answer!

Plateau Question

Experiencing a plateau on my weight loss journey. Finding the last 3-4 days weighing in the same after a 1700 calorie eating day and a 1500 calorie workout plus time at work being physical on my feet all day. According to CICO I should be in at over 1-3 pounds defecit, but am now up 1.4 pounds.

Currently sitting at around 43 pounds lost but does anyone have any advice to help with the slow loss again, and getting it down? Anyone have any suggestions? Did a bit of reading about plateaus and it suggested weight resistance (anaerobic) exercise would trigger me out of starvation mode again that my body might be experiencing with getting used to my workouts but from a straight CICO mentality starvation mode (as its called) doesnt make sense.

I figure here would be the best place to post with some experts.

Thanks for your advice fellow fitness peeps!

„I like curvy girls“ - suddenly more attractive after weight loss

I noticed in this sub that a lot of people experience how they become more attractive and how suddenly friends or ex‘s hit up on them. In this context it‘s interesting when men claim to prefer average/normal or curvy looking women, but then develop romantic feelings AFTER your weight loss and when you‘re skinny.

But here‘s the deal from my personal experience: I don’t think every men is „lying“ about his preferences. I often read phrases in the comments like: „In the end they all just want the skinny girl.“

In fact I think that the perfect weight or fat/muscle-compound isn’t universal. I was average, when I lost fat before. I became skinny and was indeed prettier. My face looked more structured, my smile was brighter, my eyes became bigger and I was more confident. In comparison a friend of mine is curvy, she has a beautiful and slim face, is well-proportioned and loves herself. I didn’t become prettier, because „skinny“ is prettier, but because a lower weight suits me way more and accentuates my features. Therefore you shouldn’t go for a specific weight, you want to reach. Look in the mirror - that‘s what you have to care about.

So if a man / woman friendzoned you before your weight loss and is now interested in you: it might not be about your body change only. Your whole aura develops as soon as you feel more comfortable in your skin.

At the start of my weight loss journey, and looking to set rewards for reaching my goal. Current weight 151kg / 332 lbs, goal weight 110kg / 242 lbs

Hi everyone. I am a 36 y/o Australian male that is currently obese, and I have reached that 'light-switch' moment where I am set and desperate to remove a majority of my excess weight.

At the start of the year I was 167kg and I have reduced this to currently 151kg and achieved this through more mindful choices in my food intake, but little else.

It is my goal to reach 110kg. I am a former powerlifter and independent wrestler, so it my interest to keep a large strong frame and not become too lean/thin, which is why I am picking a goal weight that might still seem very large to some.

The habits I am setting for this journey are:

  1. Eat a calorie deficit each day (as measured by MyFitnessPal), with one cheat day a week;
  2. Exercise 6 days a week, with one rest day being Saturday each week;
  3. Bedtime by 10pm each day.

I am lucky enough to have a couple friends that will be keeping me accountable. One method being that a friend will send me a message each day late in the evening with a task required for proof of the workout the next morning; ie. take a photo holding 10kg dumbell, or holding up a sideways peace sign, etc. If he doesn't get the photo, I have failed, and I won't get the daily reward of gaming/Netflix etc in the evening as a result.

I am now trying to think of target-related rewards for reaching my goal weight of 110kg. I want to do a couple of pro photo shoots in viking/cyberpunk cosplay; but will also want to set some weight-restricted activities that I wouldn't be able to do without losing the weight. I'm currently thinking horse riding lessons, but would appreciate some extra ideas. (Unfortunately, terrified of heights, so skydiving/bunjee jumping etc are off the table)

I can see my collarbones

24F 5’7 SW:338 GW:150 CW: 254

For the first time since childhood I can see my collarbones. I’ve been overweight basically since puberty and really kicked into obesity in my late teens due to poor mental health, a bad home life, and disordered eating. In April of 2020 I had one of the worst panic attacks of my life because I thought of all the things I wanted in life and believed I’d never achieve them because I didn’t have the work ethic and none of it was possible for me. A big thing I’ve always wanted was to just lose weight and be a healthy ideal weight. I wanted a normal life and to do normal things and wear normal clothes and I was so scared I’d never get it because I just couldn’t see myself being capable of doing the hard work.

Now two years later I’m down 84 pounds that I’ve lost primarily all in one year with honestly not that much effort. I still have 100 pounds to go and I haven’t fully tackled weight loss yet but I’m further than I ever thought I’d get. For those of you who’ve been in my position and have seen posts of someone’s weight loss and have been discouraged by how hard it seems I want to give you a little bit of hope. I have bad adhd and my mental health is okay at best. I didn’t suddenly start eating healthy and cutting out junk food. I didn’t start going to the gym at 5 am. I didn’t even try to start losing weight it just started to come off naturally when I got a busy job that forced me into accidental intermittent fasting and when I noticed I was losing weight I started tweaking small habits of mine and it’s made a huge difference. I feel like I’m barely trying and I’m still seeing the scale go down. I haven’t worked out once and I still eat junk food and fast food. Now I just intermittent fast and I pay attention to what I eat. I count calories with a food scale now and I’m pretty diligent about not going over. It’s been a slowish process of just adding small changes over time. Eventually I’d like to start adding nutritious foods and exercise so I can lose more weight and not gain it back in the future. I just want to let people out there who feel like they’d never be able to do it that you can and it honestly isn’t as hard as it seems. If I can do you can too.

Starting my weight loss journey

Hello! I’m a 21 F and currently 248lbs. My goal weight is approximately 180lbs. I’ve never really been into fitness or know much about it other than what i’ve researched so far. I am serious about losing the weight, but want to make sure that i’m doing the things that are actually going to help me. it doesn’t have to be a fast journey, although that would be great, i’m willing to take the time I need to make sure I do it the right way and healthily. So, what are your best recommendations for weight loss? including dieting, exercises, any advice is great!

Question about medication and BMI

I’m 43F, 160 cm and 65kg. I was 70kg been slowly losing weight by eating around 1200 cals a day, and a mix of HIT and weightlifting every day. I lose maybe .5 kg every few weeks and I’m starting to lose patience. It’s not an easy way to live, despite focus on protein and nutrition I’m often tired and hungry. But - I’m not a candidate for weight loss medication as I’m not overweight enough. I’m wondering why that is? If I was to just put on all the weight again I would qualify. Why do you need to be so overweight to be prescribed medication? Do they take people off medication as soon as they are a certain BMI?
