[tip] I managed to maintain healthy weight loss while vacationing and still have a good time!

As in the title, in the last month I went on two vacations, spanning over 3 weeks, and have managed to continue steady weight loss over that period, but I still had a great time on booth!

I can't speak for everyone, but when you have a vacation coming up and you've been trying to loose weight, or just generally be more healthy, you feel a bit nervous, I think for the most part a lot of people go with the "I'm going to focus on having fun, and get back on track when I come home" approach, which is totally fine, but I personally wasn't happy with it.

Everyone seems to have accepted that you just, put on weight when holidaying/vacationing and I decided it must be possible to continue losing weight and still have a totally awesome time, without making huge sacrifices, it's your holiday after all.

So here are my tips from my experience this summer (these are a mix of diet/food related, and exercise related):

  1. Make the decision before you leave that you're going to commit to maintaining or losing weight over your vacation. This is by far the most important step, commit to it, and be ready to make an effort, as easy as this can be to do, it's just as easy to treat it like every other vacation you've been on, so decide it's what you want to do ahead of time.
  2. Set yourself a goal for how many days you're going to exercise. For my first vacation I was away for 15 days and challenged myself to workout on 7 of them, I ended up managing to work out on 10 days in total!
  3. Pick exercises you enjoy the most. While you're at home you might stick a routine that involves some things you enjoy, and others you hate, but mix things up for your holiday, pick the things you enjoy doing the most, and get the most out of, that way you're more motivated to do them, and they don't put a downer on your trip.
  4. You don't need to eat the same amount you used to on vacation to enjoy yourself. This is a big one, and took me totally by surprise, on vacations in the past I could chomp down a huge hotel breakfast, pizza for lunch, and a burger for dinner, no problemo, but having been eating healthily for 6 months, even having a big meal like a pizza or a burger once every few days felt like a huge treat, and knowing that I was still being making good food choices left me feeling just as happy as I ever did on any previous vacation. Other days I took the opportunity to try the local food that sounded healthy, or stuck with small portions.

There are plenty of other things such as, going on runs or hikes in new scenery, getting up before breakfast and going to the gym so you can enjoy the rest of the day however you want, but for me these 3 things made the biggest difference. So, while on the travel back my family were talking about how much weight they must have put on, I could chill knowing I'd lost a few pounds and still had a wonderful time.

Unsure if I have plateaued?

I weighed around 210lbs at the beginning of last year and now weigh around 176lbs. I’m a guy who’s 31 and 5”10 and a vegetarian

I log all my food and I’m on 2060 calories per day and generally manage to balance my macros as my fitness pal suggests to 50% carbs / 30% protein / 20% fat. I exercise fairly regularly with a 30 minute mixed weight session at lunch and practice BJJ at least 3 days a week and run as often as possible.

I feel really pleased with the amount of lost but I feel somewhat disappointed that my weight loss has totally stopped. I’ve been stuck at around 176lbs now for several months and I’m really struggling what I can adjust to lose a bit more weight, more so around my stomach area as I’m really self conscious about it.

My Week 1 Weigh In Shows Why You Shouldn't Worry If You Don't Lose Weight Right Away.

When beginning their weight loss journey, a lot of people expect biggest loser style results. They want to see the number on the scale drop as much as possible. Yesterday was my week 1 weigh-in since beginning my new workout routine and healthier eating habits. The scale at my gym measures lean muscle, body fat and more. When I weighed in I actually GAINED 1 lb. At first, I was discouraged until I looked at the other results. Here's the difference I made after 1 week:

Weight: +1 lb

Muscle: +2.2 lbs

Fat: -2.7 lbs

BMI: +0.1

Percent Body Fat: -1.2%

Base Metabolic Rate: +35 kcal

R Arm Lean Mass: +0.31 lbs

L Arm Lean Mass: +0.35 lbs

Trunk Lean Mass: +2.0 lbs

R Leg Lean Mass: -0.04 lbs

L Leg Lean Mass: -0.22 lbs

R Arm Fat: -0.5 lbs

L Arm Fat: -0.7 lbs

Trunk Fat: -0.7 lbs

R Leg Fat: -0.7 lbs

L Leg Fat: -0.4 lbs

As you can see, even though I didn't lose weight yet, my body is clearly moving in the right direction. I am showing a trend of gaining muscle, losing fat, and increasing my metabolic rate slightly.

So Please, don't give up if you don't see your weight moving as quickly as you'd like it to. As long as you're exercising and eating better, your body is going to change for the better. It just needs more time before you'll really notice it.

How to keep positive mindset?

So, I am the classic IT guy, in work sitting behind PC, at home sitting behind PC, I do use car whenever I can, I ate badly and chugged litres of coke daily. Which obviously had an impact on my weight and lets say health, while not feeling any health problems so far. And I am aware of that.14 days agi I went to my physician for, got a blood test and results were exepectable. High blood sugar, high cholesterol, high blood lipids, BMI 37.7. Results of this were expectable as well.I was put on reduction diet and was banned from eating basically any sugar at all. And I was presented with a theoretical plan of weight loss meaning that I have to keep it this way for 6 months at least. So, I had to keep a tough order of the day, I have to eat regularly, small portions and I cant eat and drink what I was used to. Everyon else around me is wolfing down all the things I used to eat... big ass pizzas, burgers, steaks. Not that I have uncontrollable cravings, but it tells me "damn this sucks big time"

While I am perfectly aware that this is good for me and I am not being hurt in any way, I am doing what I was supposed to do years ago, that I have noone else to blame except me and that it works and if I keep it this way I will be OK in reasonable amount of time, I still cant feel positively about this situation.I still feel it as unjust (what the F did I do to deserve this, F-ing luck, F-ing life, F-ing doctor), I feel restricted (I am very freedom loving perso in heart and I hate being restriced) and I am basically pre-pissed off by the fact that BBQ season is gone for me, all the fall food fests are gone for me, no home made smoked bacon this year, my birthday celebration will be kinda soft as well as christmas and new year celebrations. Its almost like the first thing I have lost is a joy of life. Not that I am considering dropping out of the diet in any way. I accepted this is how the rest of the year is gonna be and thats it. I am extremely stubborn in those scenarios, as I quit smoking cold turkey last winter just because I said "enough".

Did anyone else experience this? If so, how do you kept yourself feeling positive and not be pissed off by the life?

50 lbs lost trust the process!

So today I am officially celebrating 50lb weight loss!!!! Well to be exact we are talking 51.6

Start weight was 298.8 current weight 247.2. I still want to drop another 50, but man this is awesome. The process is CICO and exercise. Funny enough I plateau get mad at my self and maintain. Try again and it all comes off.

The first 20lbs where I went from 298.8-272ish was when I joined a cross fit gym, and started working out about 4x a week. I didn't lose that much because my diet wasn't perfect. The prices of my crossfit gym went up so I have to give that up. I fluctuated between 272-278 for about a year kinda felt bleh during that time, but excited I lost some weight.

Then come may of this year. A coworker asked if I wanted to be part of a weight loss challenge, I said heck yes! This is where I switched to Keto no exercise. I shed all the way down to around 258-252 range. Felt great decided I wanted to have a nice body shape so I decided after two months of diet to hit the gym.... then Pleatu started to come as I started exercising my diet broke apart AGAIN. I did this for about a month slowly creeping up to 255.

Well I'm back at it again, here I am 247.2 and the true secret is my diet. As soon as I got my diet down in perfect meal prep, my exercise was not wasted. I'm feel good and here is to another 50lbs!

NSV: I logged my intake in MyFitnessPal for 365 days!

I just hit the milestone of logging my daily calories in MyFitnessPal for a solid year! I attribute my consistent counting and recording my calories as the “secret” to my 116lb weight loss. I’m just so proud of myself for staying dedicated to tracking my intake because I usually suck at staying dedicated to anything.

Over the past year I’ve had many people ask me how I lost so much weight. Those people always seem really disappointed when I tell them that I counted my calories and did my best to make good food choices. However, consistency and patience are what made the loss possible. Every day I tried my best to follow my plan so I could eventually reach my goal.I kept my calories between 1200-1500 calories a day since I’m a lady with a desk job. I tried to take longer and more frequent walks with my dog. I also took some regular barre classes along the way. All in all I’ve been on this journey for 17 months.

As for logging, it gets easier over time. I’ve slowly imported all my favorite recipes into MFP. This allows me to easily track the meals I eat most often. I’ve also become an expert barcode scanner. At first logging everything felt like a chore but it gets easier every day. Tracking everything also kept me honest about what I was eating. I realized that not logging everything was only cheating my goal because my body was counting every calorie so that should be reflected in my food log. My other tip is using containers in small portion sizes. Being able to eat a whole container of something just feels more satisfying than only having half a bowl. One and two cup Pyrex containers have been my best friend.

I don’t plan on slacking on my logging anytime soon. I don’t feel like I’m done losing weight. Once I finally hit my goal I plan to log for as long as it takes me to get into the groove of maintenance.

The most gratifying screenshot of my life and the result of my dedication to calorie counting

[article] Speed up weight loss with Chia and Lemon cocktail

I just stumbled on this article on Pinterest, about a drink/cocktail that you can add to your morning routine and lose 40 lb in one month. There is a paragraph that addresses the importance of watching what we eat, and exercise, but the bold claim in weight loss got me thinking..I know that my mother, who is a doctor, drinks warm/mild water with lemon every morning, but can the addition of chia really make a difference? Though I'd ask here: Has anyone anyone has tried this and has something to share about the experience / results?

Article TL;DR:

- ingredients: Chia, Lemon, Honey, Water

- drink cocktail in the morning

- promotes weight loss, cleanses body, prevents fat development

- it is important to adjust eating habits and exercise for better results

here is the link of the full article: https://happinessingredient.com/lose-40-pounds-in-1-month-with-this-weight-loss-drink/
