how to make sense of friend that doesn't believe the way you lost weight is "real" or "genuine"

As I've been losing weight (f30, 162cm, sw:90kg, cw:80kg, gw:70kg) one of my friends has been acting weird about my weight loss and I don't know how to make sense of the situation. My weight loss method has been soul searching (I laugh about it but investigating why I needed to comfort eat was a game changer for me)/ very mild CICO/ intuitive eating/ light exercise/ cutting out sugary drinks. It's taken me a year to lose 10kg, considering a pandemic has been going on I think I'm pacing myself just right. All the changes were gradual as I am trying to make meaningful changes to my lifestyle.

Aside from my partner (bless him) and now this subreddit - I don't really talk about this journey I've been on. It is for health reasons that I'm doing this and I find complements about the change in my figure quite disorienting because I liked how I looked before too. When my friend recently asked me about my weight loss, I was happy to share details of my journey. And yes, I'm calling it a journey because it has been one! What I didn't expect was the how defensive she got as I spoke about my experiences. I also didn't expect the criticisms I would receive about whether I am doing this "healthily". I think the most confusing part was that she didn't believe that the way I lost weight was actually how I lost weight. Thing is, me sharing the details of this journey was never about giving advice. I've been there, I know how much it sucks to receive advice you weren't looking for. I wasn't expecting some applause, but at least some respect for my consistency and commitment to what I think has been a significant change to my life. This won't end the friendship by any means but has anyone else dealt with experiences like this?

Also what is it with the defensiveness over cutting out fruit juice? Is this a thing? I like fruit juice enough but it is very sugary and when I mentioned that I cut out sugary drinks including juice and I mainly drink water and coke zero, she looked like she was about to pass out.

Edit: also to add I never said fruit juice was unhealthy, just that I found it harder to lose weight with it being in the house!

Artificial Sweeteners - Rant

I have recently lost 100 lbs over the course of a year to land in the dead middle of my recommended BMI for my height/sex/build and have been in maintenance mode since August 2020. Most of it was done with low carb and counting calories.

With that said I have struggled over the past couple of months to lose the weight I put on after a binge/cheat/holiday and I couldn't figure out why I wasn't seeing the losses I should. Previously I was able to lose the weight I put on after a binge/cheat/holiday weekend within a week as expected given the amount of calories I was eating. I counted calories during my 100 lb weight loss and it was pretty accurate given what the scale said versus my caloric deficit so I am confident in my ability to track my caloric deficit.

Finally it clicked on me, I am drinking 2-3x more artificial sweeteners than before due to the winter time causing me to drink more hot drinks. All of those hidden calories in 0 calorie sweeteners is insane thanks to dextrose and maltodextrin. It can be 4-10 calories per tsp/serving depending where I read.

During my weight loss, I was consuming about 20 servings of artificial sweetener a day (splenda packets) and now I am closer to 40-60 a day. Those hidden calories didn't hurt so much before but wow do they add up.

So today I am both cutting back on artificial sweeteners and ordered liquid sucralose that should be 0 calories with no hidden calories. And yes I know even 20 servings of sucralose a day is still bad but I can't give up everything.

I am also pissed to live in a country where this is legal. I was aware of the calories not being accurate on the label and generally was good at checking ingredients but for some reason Splenda slipped by me. My other one that pisses me off that I caught before buying was Sugar Free Coffee Mate, which first two ingredients are Water, Corn Syrup . That's right sugar free with the 2nd ingredient corn syrup. Got to love the USA.

TLDR: Most artificial sweeteners have hidden calories; if using powdered sweeteners make sure they don't contain dextrose/maltodextrin and if they do, switch to a form that doesn't.

Anyone else using financial savings as motivation?

When I compared my room mates grocery bill to mine - hers is about $30 a week, vs my $50-75. Hers all healthy and very focused on her meal plans. Doesn’t over eat, and rarely buys snacks. Vs me always over buying from fear of being hungry while dieting, then it goes bad and I’ve wasted my money because I didn’t actually stay focused on my diet.

Going over my finances today, I realized I need to find a way to save some money. I’m going to attempt to cut my grocery bill in half by eating less (which I need to be doing since I eat in surplus, this is not starvation). I’m thinking intermittent fasting will help with the needless snacking or reaching for extra servings when in reality I’ve had enough and should really save it for another meal.

Would like some positive stories if keeping this kind of mindset has helped anybody else? Or if people have noticed they saved money in the long run.

Another angle to think from, and another additional goal, can only make weight loss more positive and encouraging right? At least that’s what I’m thinking.

Almost had my second cheat day of the week.

I'm on mobile so excuse the format and this is a long post, so strap in and stay til the end for pictures!

I started my weight loss journey on July 27th 2020 at 256lbs and im currently down to 217.4lbs. I changed my work schedule 2 weeks ago and haven't been able to adjust to it. It wasn't a huge change, but I used to have 3 days off 2 of them being together and now I still have 3 days off, but none back to back. My sleep schedule has been off because of it and I've found myself snacking later since I'm staying up later. I normally have a cheat day (a day where I don't track my macros) once a week on Fridays and even after last Friday my cravings have been hard to control and so when calculating macros at the end of the day I find that I've gotten close or gone over the amount of fat I should have each day. It's put a damper on my mood and I ended up giving in to another cheat day on Monday of this week. 3 weeks ago, after doing this journey alone for so long, a co-worker decided she wanted to race me since we both have exactly 43lbs to lose before reaching our goal weight. I said yes, not for the money but because I thought it would be nice to hold myself accountable to someone other than myself. After this week and sending her my unchanged numbers (weight, waist and hip measurements) today I almost gave in, but I pulled another tool out of my bag and decided to start taking progress pictures again. The results almost made me cry. After seeing this, I was ready to get back to it and remind myself I am not my cravings and I have the strength to fight them. I have started and stopped this journey too many times, but I told myself in the beginning this time would be different and I am going to continue working to get what I want. I didnt have anyone to share this with, so I figured I'd share with this community.

Short girl trying to lose weight

So my weight loss journey started during lockdown, I was determined to use the time I had on my hands to do something productive with myself. In the last couple of years I gained a lot of weight because I switched from a VERY active lifestyle and job to a work-from-home (even before the pandemic).

Starting weight: 63.5kg (139lbs)
Height: 157cm (5ft15)
Current weight: 55kg (121lbs)

I started working out 5 days a week (mostly cardio, mixed cardio, HIIT) and entirely changed my diet. I always ate a lot of veggies even before but my main issue were carbs (rice, pasta, bread, you name it). During 2020, I lost the first 8,5kg (18lbs) - I'm going for "a little by little and steadily" rather than drop massive weight quickly and gaining it back.

Now, I've hit a plateau. Everyone I know dismisses the topic saying that 55kg is an acceptable weight, as if there was a mental threshold and it is good number for everyone and they seem to forget how short I am. The weight I lost was mainly from my arms and legs and now I look pregnant. My waist measures 80cm (31 inches), while my chest and hips measure 92cm (36 inches) - draw your conclusions. Whenever I look at myself on the mirror I feel like a cylinder.

I'm starting to introduce weight lifting and strength training but other than that I don't know how to shed that belly fat :( Any tips?

Have any of you tried using a Continuous Glucose Monitor?

I've been doing CCIO for the last few months I've been loosing weight slow and steady, which I am TRILLED with. My boyfriend was recently diagnosed with type 2 and so we've been on the weight loss/exercise train together since last November. He's considering purchasing a continuous glucose monitor to help us understand what is/isn't helping his sugar levels. Which led me down a bit of an internet rabbit hole, so I'm hear for a sanity check. I'm not diabetic, however after doing some research (aka google-foo) I've read a number of things that suggest that coupling glucose monitoring with CCIO can be really powerful. So have any of you used a CGM? Did it help you make better choices, or improve the rate at which you lost weight? Anything else you think might be helpful?
