Impacts of eating too little? Is this true or myth?

Hey guys, I wanted to preface this by saying: this is all information I have been told that has worried me but I do not know if it’s correct so I’m just coming here to ask the more knowledgeable folks here. I know there are a lot of weight loss myths that circulate so I just want to figure out what’s true.

I was doing very well on my weight loss i started at 165 and I’m around 138-140 right now. I lost this all the right way by limiting calories, eating clean and exercising and I’m happy where I am so I’m not in a huge rush to lose the rest of the weight now. But I’ve kinda started to stall for 3 weeks and I’m worried it’s bc I was eating too little for some weeks prior to now.

I didn’t do it intentionally to lose weight, I went through a break up with a long term partner and had to move, all right after a stressful finals season. I was just really stressed out and didn’t have an appetite. I felt sick when I would eat for awhile. I’d force myself to eat but I wasn’t even hitting 1200 calories a day for a couple of weeks. I know that isn’t healthy and i am in therapy and taking much better care of myself now. It was just a really hard time for me.

So now that I’ve recovered and had some time to process I’ve kind of hit a rut where I don’t seem to be like losing weight now on the 1400 calories I usually eat at.

One of my friends told me I probably screwed up my metabolism by not eating enough and now my body is used to not having very many calories. They even suggested I might start gaining weight until I fix my metabolism? Which idek how to fix? That seems crazy to me that I could screw up my body like that after a couple hard weeks and it’s stressing me out.

Is this even true? If so will my body level back out once I continue being healthy and taking care of myself?

I have lost 10kgs, and I am afraid to not be able to lose the last 10kgs

27F 5’7 SW: 80kg CW:70kg GW:58kg, training for a half marathon

Hi everybody, it is my first time posting on Reddit, also English is not my mother tongue, so I apologize in advance for any grammar/editing mistakes.

Some background: I am recovering from an eating disorder, I have had an unhealthy relationship with food for more than 10 years. When I was younger I was very fit and thin, with the 90-60-90 measurements, but I was suffering from my ED. I was also doing a lot of sport, and competitions (synchronized swimming, gymnastic). When I started to truly recover from my ED, I had this period where I just didn’t care about my body anymore. I stopped being scarred of putting on weight and I just started to eat and eat, but I was still physically active, fitness training 5 times a week + cycling 15 km a day. I put on weight but it was muscles. But then 2020 happened, and I stopped any form of physical activity, but continued to eat. I reached my maximum weight ever, which was 80kg at the end of 2020. (I know this might sound ridiculous for some of you, and I don’t want to offend anybody, but for someone who was afraid all her life to gain even few grammes, it was hard to see that I was not even in a healthy BMI) For 2021, I decided that I couldn’t let myself go, but that I had to stop FINALLY my unhealthy behavior with food, and learn to be « balanced ». I decided to give myself some times, to not do extreme diet to not wake up some old demons, but to be careful of what I eat and to exercise like I used to. I decided to do intermittent fasting (16:8. I just skip breakfast), I am doing HIIT 4 times a week (40mins, with weights), I run 10k 2 times a week, and swim minimum 1000m (in 30 mins or less) once a week. I try to be active again, just as I used to, because I truly enjoy it. I also fixed myself the crazy goal to run a marathon in a year and half and a half marathon by the end of 2021. Please note that at the beginning of January 2021 I couldn’t even run 10 mins. But I guess as I was very sportive in the past, my body just went back to its « old nature » if I may say. I eat everything now, I am trying to learn to not put label on food « bad » or « good ». I love veggies and fruits, so I eat a lot of them, but I always did.

So, my question(s): well first of all, I think I just need the advices of other people who lost weight . I have lost 10kg, so it’s a steady lost of 1kg per month, but now I am just full of fears and bad thoughts. Is it normal that I have lost ONLY 10kg if I am pretty active ? Will I continue to lost 1kg per month if I continue this way? I feel like now that I have reach a healthy BMI, the weight loss will be slower or I will plateau, and I don’t know if I will be ok with that. I guess I just need some reassuring thoughts, I am afraid sometimes of going back to my old ED habits, sometimes I feel like I could do anything just to see my body shrink and the weight to go away, but I know it is stupid. So please, do you have any advices on how to lose the last 10kg? Any diet advices? Thank you in advance!

I look so fat a picture from my husband's family reunion.

In 2018, through CICO, I was able to lose 110 lbs and get to my lowest weight since childhood. I felt amazing, looked amazing, and was happy with myself for the first time in a long time. I don't know what happened (I have a few theories), but late 2018 saw me lose any focus, motivation, or determination I had to lose weight or keep using CICO, and I've gained nearly 40 lbs since then. Things have been particularly stressful for me, including a strong dislike for my job, not being very happy with our current location and home, and struggling with communication and emotions in my marriage, which have just fueled my poor eating habits.

All of that is to say that I knew I had gained weight and looked different, but the family pic at my husband's family reunion really drove home how fat I look and am now. I'm embarrassed and pretty humiliated with how I look...again. I never thought I'd be back here, and it further fuels my insecurities. I wish I could figure out why I struggle so much with getting back on the wagon after doing so well a few years ago and what's so different with my mind and body now compared to then.

Feeling bad about myself sure doesn't help my emotional eating, and I know what to do and how to do it, but it's some sort of block that I have not been able to get past. It was originally seeing myself in a full-body mirror and in pictures that fueled by first weight loss, and I'm hoping it can do it again.

I am morbidly obese. I am one step away from being disowned by my family.

The title says it all. I am eighteen years old, and am at risk of being disowned by my family because I am 260 pounds.

After secretly binge-eating everyday while being away in Greece, my family was given a €200 invoice of my room service orders. The island that I visited is full of hills, so I obviously could not walk for more than ten seconds without having one minute breaks. My knees are in constant pain — especially the left one. My father gave me an ultimatum: if I don't lose the weight, I will be disowned. The pain that I feel while writing this is immense.

I am isolated from people my age, as I cannot relate to them in any way — I can't go to parties without feeling humiliated, and no boy has ever looked at me. I could give pages of examples just like the ones above. I am a monster, who is destroying the lives of those around me. I don't know where to start with my weight loss journey. I am feeling hopeless.

from "how do they do it" to "im doing it!" --- Treat Yourself Kindly

i used to look at healthy people like they were superheros -- afterall, they must have superhuman willpower, right? I used to ask my healthy friends what they did to stay that way, and a surprising number said that they didnt really think about it, skinny just happened to them. I so wished to be more like them...... after 3 years of trial and error, and 50 lbs down, heres how I did it :)

---I realized that I was eating because I was anxious, not because I was hungry. The constant cravings went away when I addressed my mental health and took steps to take care of my mind, body, and soul.

-----I had to learn to work with my body, not against it. Working out isnt fun or motivating or rewarding when youre doing it to punish yourself. Lifting weights for only 10-15 minutes a day with the mindset of caring for my body changed the game.

-----I had to address my identity and limiting self beliefs. I binged bc I thought I wasn't strong enough not to. I believed I was powerless to cravings. I believed that if I didnt bake and eat an entire cake that I would never calm down or decide I dont need it. I was always stronger than my cravings, I just lacked self-compassion and trust in myself. Probably sounds like bs but thats the truth.

---- The most important thing I did was ease off sugar, carbs, and start every day with a low-cal protein greek yogurt (Oikos triple 0). You can't crack a goal with an addiction in the way, nd sugar is no joke. If not for weight loss, it even made a HUGE improvement in my mental clarity snd mental health. I still have a sugary treat like ice cream or cookies most days, but my portions are tiny and the sweetness is overwhelming after a few bites anyway.

Now Im someone who feels uncomfortable when too full, I stop when im full!!! (!?!??!?!?) I say no to donuts in morning, and mean it!!!! I treat myself with compassion when I gain a few, and with a few "no thank yous" to dessert it falls right back off.

Im happy, and I just want eveeyone to know its possible for you to be happy too. Remember to forgive yourself, treat yourself kindly, and do things for your body, not against it. Love you all, thank you

I could use some advice from someone who’s been there.

I think I’m at my heaviest (310-320) at 6’4 but I’ve never had a problem loosing weight. I go through times where I will loose 50-70 lbs by healthy eating and exercise. What happens is that I inevitably end up falling off of the wagon and gaining the weight back EVERY TIME.

How can I trick myself into eating just one of something bad? I feel like an “all or nothing person” but I know that can be detrimental to weight loss goals. I want to be able to eat less healthy things sometimes without loosing my shit and going back down Emotional Binge eating ave.

How do I keep this weight off once and for all?
