So weight loss isn’t a race?

I’ve been in a deficit for 7 months and have lost 50lbs. The first 40lbs came off so easy but now I’m always hungry since I’ve started powerlifting 6 days a week.

I’m usually 195 but I’ve been overeating recently and have gained a couple pounds back. This is probably because I’ve been restricting myself for so long.

Obviously getting out of the overweight category would be nice but there’s really no rush for me. If it takes another year to lose 25-30lbs then so be it.

I’m already way better off than I was 7 months ago and that’s all that matters.

I’m upping my calories to around maintenance and focusing on my lifting for a bit.

Slow progress is still progress.

I want to experience what it’s like to be at a healthy weight for the first time of my life….pls help me

I have been losing and gaining 10-20 lbs the past couple years. Before I started making an effort to lose weight I was 250 lbs. My lowest weight since then was 194lbs. I have been in the 200-220 range for the past couple years.

My mom passed away recently and I’ve been gaining weight (10lbs in a month). Trying to get out of a rut and better myself.

Keto is the best way for me to lose weight consistently. I’ve tried a regular diet with a caloric defecit and saw little to no weight loss. However, when I do keto the weight falls off.

I would do Keto for a couple months, reach the 190s and then I would plateau for 4+ weeks. I’m eating less and focusing on cardio. It drives me crazy. After doing research (browsing Reddit posts lol) I realized I was eating too little calories. I was doing 1600cal, I’m a 5’10 Male @200lbs. Basically I was starving my body. So I tried up my calories to 1800 and I stopped working out. Barely made a difference. Weight stalled for weeks.

I’ve tried CICO and many other diets. For those asking yes, yes I do log my food intake, every drop of olive oil is accounted for, I use a food scale too.

I want better for myself. I’m a young guy who’s been overweight his whole life. I owe it to my body to be at a healthy weight.

I’m out of options/ideas of what to do now. I swear I feel like my body/DNA is stubborn and doesn’t want to lose weight. Like my default body is fat. Ugh

How long can I get away with 1400 Calories while still lifting and building muscle?

Hey Everyone! So I've been bouncing around 1200-1800 Calories since 4/1/21. I'm not running into any issues eating this amount of calories. In the middle of August I started going to the gym and lifting weights, and raised my calories to around 1800 since I was going 4-5x a week for an hour or two.

As most of us here have experienced, when I started lifting, I gained some weight and stalled. I lowered my calories back down to 1400-1500 last week. FINALLY, yesterday, after 7 weeks, I dropped 4 lbs out of nowhere.

So now that I'm apparently back on the weight loss train, and I'm still going to the gym, how long do you think I can get away with eating 1400 calories and still progressing in the gym?

Luckily, I'm consistently able to add more weight or more reps every time I go. I'm still going 6 times a week. (I'm doing a Push/Pull/Leg/Rest/Repeat schedule)

Is this something I can keep doing until I am unable to go up in weight during gym sessions? If I go up to say 2000 calories a day, would I still be able to loose weight every week?

The paper towel effect

At my highest weight, in one particular style of pants, I wore a size 18. It was a snug, but not overly tight fit at that weight.

It took about 30lbs of weight loss before I could wear size 16 in the same pants style of that brand. And 40lbs before the 18s would fall off.

16s to 14s was about 25lbs.

14s to 12s was about 20lbs

I didn't need to buy 10s or 8s, because it was summer and I wore skirts and shorts all the time.

Just before my goal weight, I was wearing size 6 in other pants bought at the thriftstore.

This week, I needed pants and the local thriftstore only had capris in size 6 and 4. So I went back to the pants that worked for so many years. My size 6 pants are kind of loose, so I ordered size 4 figuring I could return them.

Yeah, they fit perfectly.

And here's where the paper towel effect comes in. Remember how I had to lose over 30lbs to go from a size 18 to a size 16? It only took about 5lbs to go from 6 to 4.

When I started losing weight, I didn't even set any size goals because I didn't want the inevitable, I thought, failure.

It was so frustrating being told "don't worry about the scale, see how your clothes fit" when my clothes fit basically the same as my weight was going down steadily.

Anyway, if you're losing weight, but not seeing much of a size change, hang in there. Eventually you will start dropping sizes faster than seems possible now.

Not able to loose weight - 39/F/5'7/CW:282/SW:286

One month away from the big Four-O and I am not able to keep up with my own set targets and goals.

Why is it so hard. I am not a food junkie, i don't eat like there's no tomorrow. And yet the weight doesn't budge!! I am 282lbs and have been at this for the past 1 year since I started my journey. Okay maybe few pounds more. I have been eating right. Fried food is only on eat outs which is once in maybe 15 days. For the rest bit home made heathy food. Primarily follow plant based diet with occasionally fish or poultry. Have my 64oz of water everyday, Try to clock 10k steps on most days. Sleep 9:30pm wake up 5:30am. I mean a lifestyle which by all standards is healthy. And still weight loss is just not happening!! I want to build my stamina and agility. But I think my biggest problem is not being consistent with my workouts.

Having said that, I do not have a sluggish lifestyle. I moved around, close all three rings on most days, do my own laundry, cook my family's meals, and love to laugh!!

I even started journaling on my fitness pal, for all my intakes. I doubted the caloric value assigned to the foods mentioned, so i made my own recipes counts measuring everything ingredient wise. So i know I haven't gone above 1800 cals that app says I should eat in order to loosed 1.5lbs a week.

And yet no change!!! Granted, I am not a big fan of diets. I cannot do Keto or Paleo.. not that i hate them both, but don't like to be restricted. I will eat less, but i want my options to be open.

All the podcast I listen to suggest to change habits. So I have been trying. I make my bed every morning for the past 11 years and more. I drink my water daily. I journal. I watch restricted TV. I eat in medium size plates. I pack half of my dine-out food, Sugar intake is less than 24 gms in a day, i don't eat from a packet. There are more veggies and grains in my intake than carbs.

So my pet peeve(s) - I do have chocolate, or fudge once in a while. Okay maybe go a little crazy on pop corn and chips. I love me some french fries and chicken nuggets. Ramen is my go to cheat meal, I love white rice, and i am just not able to resist Indo-chinese and Thai food!!

Good habits - I have given up bread. Only eat a whole grain toast with avocado once a week, dont eat ice creams anymore, also have reduced my snacking on trail mixes, I eat an apple or banana or an orange every day, not more 2 or 3 cups of coffee/tea everyday, I do not take seconds. If I have a heavy breakfast, i skip lunch, i do not drink liquid calories - so no pop, beer or any fizz drinks. Okay maybe a glass of Prosecco or Sangria once a month or so.

Also on workout front, i like to walk, and try to go out on all non-snow, rain days. I am not particular fan of gyming. And frankly will be clueless on how to begin. I hear people say weight training is a must, but i don't know how to start. I like to do home workouts and do have a rowing machine that i would love to use if can muster my energy and will.

Tips on how i can proceed are very welcome. I would love to get guidance on weight training and resistance building. Actually loosing weight consistently and building stamina. how does one stay consistent, I am struggling so so much on this front.

Update: I Lost 30 pounds in 3 months!

Original Post: So basically three weeks ago I quit my job and I was tired of being overweight. I had been this way since like around 7th grade and I'm now 2nd year in university. I wasn't overweight to the point that I was truly at health risks but it's just something I wanted to do for years my worst all time was around 208 pounds I'm a 19 years old 6 foot not a bad looking guy just overweight to the point I felt insecure about my looks. I'm a very social person since last year because I worked on that but my health is something I wanted to work on. My worst bmi was 28.2 at 208 and I lost maybe like 5 of that just working at my job this summer walking around a lot but I wasn't eating great or working out consistently enough. I took a photo at my worst then to now is honestly shocking the difference even when I know I'm still only about halfway to my goal. Now after working out everyday running, eating healthy and cutting down on portion sizes and cutting out all non natural sugars, sweets sodas only the occasional beer I'm down to 192 pounds. I feel truly so much better after I workout in the morning and I know I'm making amazing progress to reach my goal of 175 pounds for being a 6'0 male. Trust me anyone reading this that needs the motivation just fucking do it you will feel so much better about yourself and food will no longer control you don't worry about gaining muscle just focus on the weight loss until you reach your goal.

New update:

Hey everyone been a minute since my last post to recap my first post was when I first started I weighed about 204 pounds 6'0 male. Now three months since starting I'm down to 174 (bmi went from 28.2 to now 23.6 if you are curious). I feel amazing and look great. I've been dating a lot more, I'm more confident and I feel much healthier. My original goal was 180 I did that, now I'm going for 160 pounds and after that I plan to start lifting and put on a bit of muscle. Overall it has been a amazing transformation! Only 14 more pounds to go for 160 before I start lifting!
