Month 2/12 of my weight loss journey

The first month of seeing how far I can get with my fitness and weight loss in one year is complete. now onto the second. :0)

I was supposed to post this yesterday but I fell asleep at my computer lol.

Month - 2/12

Last months goal weight - 200lbs

Current weight - 204. 4lbs short of my goal.

I was too embarrassed to take my measurements. I will try this month

With this being my first month i did struggle quite a lot with keeping healthy and not giving in to cravings. I did still over eat a fair bit, but its still a decrease from my old eating habits. I hope I can cut that overeating down again this month.

Current barbell weight - 16kg

Dumbbells' weights - 3kg each

Overall fitness - Weak and easily out of breath

Man I REALLY overestimated how much I was going to be able to lift when I am still completely new to weights. I am starting small I think, but I am okay with that. My weight lifting weekly schedule has been all planned out. Unfortunately I had a ton of problems with actually getting my weights to arrive so they actually only arrived today. I tried them out and jesus christ it was so tough but I made it through! I am very pleased. Also, as my weights took ages to arrive, I made sure to stay active and move a lot more to keep myself burning calories.

I've also put together some healthy, high protein recipes which I have loved so far. : ) Honestly this is all going really well and I am very excited for this month to begin. I finally get to start getting ripped lol.

So overall, last month was tough but decent, and I believe this month is going to go very well as I finally have all the equipment I need and I am determined to meet my goal this time round. :0)

My current weight is - 204lbs

Goal weight for this month - 195lbs

Pretty nerve wracking trying to enter the 100's once again.

Thank you all for the lovely support on my original post. Good luck reaching your own goals, and see you next month!

Question!

Hi there I am not new to the weight loss journey but Ive been struggling with it for years. I've been on this journey since 2020 and have not lost a pound, even gained some. Right now, my weight sits at 135 pounds and I am 5'3. Ive read in multiple websites that a 10 pound weight loss isn't noticeable, but since I am on the shorter side, does it still apply? My goal is to drop 13 pounds by August 19th and Ive already started a few weeks ago.

My question is would it be noticeable going from BMI 23.9 to BMI 21.6? Or 135 to 122? I know BMI is faulty and that weight looks different on everyone, but if i make sure most of the weight I drop is pure fat, will I present skinnier?

I'm also aware that losing 20 pounds is the average weight loss that people would begin seeing differences but please let me know! Also last question, would losing 15 pounds be noticeable?

PS: Sorry for how this post is structured.

Losing weight while depressed

I (F 55, 5ft 7in, 205 lbs) have reached at point where losing weight is an absolute necessity.

I have several health conditions that are made worse by carrying extra pounds - sleep apnea, high blood pressure, chronic pain, elevated factor IX levels, etc. I recently was diagnosed with early stage endometrial cancer and had a total hysterectomy this past Friday. I have been informed by my gynecological oncologist that a cancer diagnosis predisposes me to developing cancer again as does being overweight so weight loss is essential.

Here's the problem: I live with chronic treatment-resistant depression and anxiety. A lot of the weight gain was due to unaddressed chronic pain that started when I was pregnant 15+ years ago but a lot of the weight is there because of depression and self destructive thoughts and feelings.

Simply put, on an emotional level I don't want to exist and an early death seems fine and dandy to me. Of course, early death as a result of obesity related health conditions is a pretty miserable and painful way to go, so on a conscious level I don't want that.

I have tried just about every known treatment out there for my treatment resistant depression. Currently, I am doing ketamine infusion therapy once a month, which has been tremendously effective for all but the most stubborn feelings of depression. I'm also aware that losing the weight may be very helpful in treating the depression in and of itself so there are plenty of good mental health reasons to pursue weight loss. That said, that part of me that wants to not exist has definitely thrown up a huge roadblock for me, because in my head weight loss = longer life and longer life = prolonged mental suffering.

I don't want to put my loved ones through watching me slowly deteriorate due to self-neglect. Morally speaking, having them bear witness to me allowing my health to deteriorate to the point of death would be monstrously selfless and unforgivable.

Do any of you have experience in working against depression and conscious self-destructive thinking to successfully lose the weight? Is a medically supervised weight loss program the answer?? Your advice is much appreciated.

I’m 25% done… here’s how I want to go from here.

Hey, hi, everyone! I want to share a major victory in my journey. Today, I am officially 25% closer to my weight loss goal.

Originally, I only posted about the victory, but I’d like to share some of the changes I plan to make going forward as well.

At this point, I have the routine of a calorie deficit down. Weighing my food, cooking, and cutting out (most) drinks has been relatively simple.

However, there are three specific habits I really would like to reform going forward.

  1. I initially gave up sugar in my coffee, but there is a Starbucks within walking distance of my second job. So I’ve been going probably twice a week now for like a month. It’s within my calorie deficit, but it’s expensive and I could eat more instead of having a drink. My goal is to give up flavored coffee (especially from cafes/coffee shops) by the end of August.

  2. I want to get back into exercising. I’ve had a hard time doing it lately because I have three jobs & between them all, I’m exhausted. However, I will drop 2 of the jobs when I go back to school in a month. I want to plan exclusive time into my day to do even a small workout. Adding this, plus an average of 20,000 steps while I’m on campus, will definitely get me into some better habits.

  3. The hardest, in my opinion, is I am going to learn how to grocery shop. I’m asking my mom for help to teach me how to budget appropriately. My goal is to buy foods that are healthy and satiating. I move to my apartment in 2 weeks, so this is a definite MUST for me.

Anyway, here is a picture of me jumping for joy. Yay to the habits that got me here and even more YAY to the habits that will allow me to reach my ultimate goal!

Edit: grammatical error

Can’t seem to lose and nothing helps.

My wife has been struggling trying to lose weight for a long time, and nothing really seems to work. She was able to lose some by dieting but eventually hit a plateau. At that point her doctor prescribed mounjaro which worked incredibly well but when insurance changed, it was impossible to get anymore. It’s hard for her to lose weight no matter what she does and she just gains it back. It’s taking a heavy toll on her mental health. Insurance covers absolutely nothing in regards to weight loss, and she has found nothing that helps.

If there is anyone out there with any idea of what she can do, we would love to hear it!

[Challenge] European Accountability Challenge: August 1st, 2023

Hi team Euro accountability, I hope you’re all well!

For anyone new who wants to join today, this is a daily post where you can track your goals, keep yourself accountable, get support, and have a chat with friendly people at times that are convenient for European time zones. Check-in daily, weekly, or whatever works best for you. It’s never the wrong time to join! Anyone and everyone is welcome! Tell us about yourself and let's continue supporting each other.

For all new people that have joined this month, at the end of the month we do a roundup of what happened. we'll also talk about our goals for February.

How was your last month?

You're free to structure this however you want, but think about the following topics:

  • How has your weight loss progressed? Better, or worse than expected?
  • What are some Non Scale Victories that you've experienced this month?
  • Did you set goals, did you keep to them?
  • What went well during this month, what could need improvement?
  • What important lessons did you learn?

Today is also the goal-setting day for the coming month!!

If you're new, every first day of the month we think about small goals we want to achieve this month. They can be weight goals, exercise goals, or anything really... An important aspect is that they are SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time based...

  • Do you have a goal weight for this month, if yes, what is it? For example: maintain a 0.5kg loss a week.
  • Do you have exercise goals? For instance, get in 10.000k steps a day
  • What plans do you have for your diet? Do you have goals there?
  • What are some non-weight/exercise-related goals you have? Here, get creative. Past participants have used this section to stay accountable for their homework, learning languages, pledging not to order junk food, ...

if you’re new, please introduce yourself! Let’s kick some ass!

Just one tip

Hey you all! If you had to give an overweight person (me) one tip- JUST 1- for sustainable weight loss, what'd it be? Your absolute fav one.

Oftentimes, atleast in today's era of the internet, there is soooo much information on the internet. And oftentimes it's contradictory. Intermittent fasting is good but IF also messed up the hormones, protein per kilo but people are practicing fructarianism also.

Even for excercise, some people say it's very important to lift weight, some say HIITs are the shit, some say pilates is the best.

I'm so overwhelmed with so much information, i just wanna get back to the basics and get shit done. Thank you <3
