Campus dining hall blues

I've been struggling to maintain my weight loss on campus.

I'm not doing badly honestly. Was 205 lbs when I started and I'm down to 190 in a month. I know that's a pretty good start but almost all of it comes down to me going to the gym 6 times a week and burning 800 calories on a treadmill each time. However, I don't see it lasting and that terrifies me. It's simply miserable to be on a treadmill for an hour a day and I've been struggling to stay motivated to go. I've been told losing weight in the gym alone is a really good way to drop 40 pounds in three months and gain them all back by the end of the year.

The reason I don't think this is sustainable because I've been struggling to change my diet in any real way. I changed my diet by stopping myself from indulging in things I love like ice cream, cookies, pizza, and wings, but I don't eat meals like I'm on a diet, consistently hitting over 1500 calories a day. I'm fully at the mercy of my dining hall, which has very few healthy options. There's a salad bar with three dressings and no toppings, and a vegetable of the day, but very few lean main courses. Usually I have a 400 calorie cheeseburger and the potato of the day for lunch, and whatever specialty meat is available for dinner with a potato and soup/salad. I'm good for breakfast by having a bowl of high fiber cereal.

My weight loss is starting to slow down. What's some advice for eating better at a lackluster campus dining hall for when my gym habit inevitably falls apart?

The Call to Courage and Daring Greatly and Running

Check in time … What are you doing today? Chime in with your run, rest day, strength, dog walk, etc…

[ Check in on @RunEatRepeat Instagram ]

This is important. Love the phrase – Daring Greatly!

Daring greatly complete quote

Have you seen Brene Brown’s special on Netflix?

I bought one of her audio books the longest time ago and never started it. But I started to watch her Netflix special this morning and it got me in the guts. [ the Call to Courage ] ◽
She shares this quote from Theodore Roosevelt.

It can apply to so many things in life. But the first thing I thought of was running.

There are a lot of times when we miss a goal after weeks, months, years of training.
There are a lot of runners – including pros that have to tap out during a race.
Not everyone who started… finished the Boston Marathon. But that’s not the whole story…
So much time, money, miles, sweat and tears went in to even getting to that point!!

That’s daring greatly. Anyway. I love this!

the call to courage
Watch the special. It’s on Netflix right now – the title is The Call to Courage.

Be brave.

Another small victory!

I’ve posted before about a little achievement with my weight loss and I’ve had another: over half way to my (first) goal! I’ve been fairly consistent but I went on holiday for a week and managed to maintain my weight loss whilst there (although didn’t lose any more) - but returned a week ago and have lost again - more than I expected in fact! I’m really pleased and I’m posting here to keep myself accountable - can’t go celebrating then gain it all back :)

I’ve been following CICO (except on my week away, but was more conscious of portion sizes after a month of calorie counting) and also exercising 4-5 times a week (again, except for on my holiday...)

I also walk to and from my work (an hour total) each day.

I’m excited to continue and am loving experimenting with simple, healthy recipes!

Has anyone else noticed some people just do not know how to compliment weight loss?

27/F/5’7 SW: 199 CW: 164 GW: 145

So I’ve lost 35 pounds but I really “dressed for my weight” so the “you’ve lost weight!” comments are starting to happen more frequently. I thought maybe some of you could laugh, relate, and share some awkward encounters.

A normal conversation about my weight loss tends to go like this:

Person: “you’re look great! Have you lost some weight?”

Me: “oh thank you, yes I’ve lost about 35 pounds!”

Person: “wow congratulations! You‘re looking good!”

Sometimes there’s how did you do it talk, you know normal stuff. But about once a week I have conversation that goes more like this:

Person: “you look nice today, have you been losing weight?”

Me: “thank you, and yes I have about 35 pounds!”

completely shocked look

Person: “holy cow!! Wow yeah you’re looking really skinny”

Me: “thanks! I’ve been working at”

assumes conversation is over and starts to walk away/move on in conversation depending on setting

Person: very awkwardly I mean it’s not like you were fat before... I’m not saying you’re fat... I hope I didn’t... I... I just mean you look good. Not trying to be rude I just...”

And then I have to stick around to have an awkward conversation about how it’s fine and I was fat and it’s not insulting to say I’ve lost weight and blah blah blah

Has anyone else experienced these awkward conversations?!

Was there a nail-in-the-coffin moment for you when it came to losing a lot of weight?

I'm (23F) struggling here. years of on off dieting, binging, weight gain, weight loss. I'm sick of it. Heaviest I've ever been, 265lbs. covered in stretch marks. I don't really look in the mirror anymore, because I feel like it isn't me. I was 140lbs 6 years ago.

Anyway, I've just looked at my arms and the stretch marks are now appearing on them too. ugh.

I have serious commitment issues (non-relationship) and just cannot find the drive to lose weight and keep at it. I know it's gonna take awhile and I'm a super impatient person. I think I'm gonna have to take action now.

Did anyone else have a moment like this? have you succeeded with weightloss since? I'd love to know.

thank you :)

-80lbs face gains! Looking younger now than I did when I *was* younger.

http://imgur.com/a/68vzjlN

I was 17 in the first picture and somewhere around 280+ pounds.

I'm 22 now and 202 in the second picture.

Eating low carb & exercising has done wonders for my face. I feel like I look middle aged in the first picture and waaay younger in the second. A combination of being very heavy and having a bad haircut aged me horrendously. I spent most of my teen years looking like I was middle aged. I showed my Dad the second picture of me and he said, "You look like you're 17." So I decided to find a picture of me at 17 and compare the differences.

I can't believe just how much of a difference the weight loss made in my face. I actualy have a jaw line. My dimples are less pronounced now but I'll take that over excess weight anyway. Getting healthy has surprised me in so many ways and this is one of them. I am very excited to see what my face will look like when I meet my goal weight.

Calorie counting, IF and exercising

I’m a 20 year old female, and I’d really like to lose just a few pounds of fat. I’d really like some advice on this. :)

I’m currently 5’1 and around 109 pounds (49kg). I’ve always been an active person - Running, walking and occasionally weight lifting and working out, so I have a reasonable amount of muscle mass, with only a few pounds that’s really bothering me, estimating, I’d like to lose about 7 pounds to get to around 102 pounds. Would this be reasonable for my height?

I’ve lost some weight before by running and calorie counting. I maintain on 2100-2200 calories, and I’m trying to cut to 1800 calories, buts it’s hard! I’m also a vegetarian. Do you know any easy, low cost (I’m a college student) healthy foods for weight loss? Also, I’m finding it hard to stick to the deficit (I’ve only started it two days ago), as I have a craving for junk food, especially at night.

I’ve also been doing intermittent fasting often. I don’t really plan it at all tbh, usually doing 16/8 hours daily (just due to my natural eating schedule), but once or twice a month 18/6 hours. I really want to try doing 20/4 or even a full 24 hour fast once a week. Any advice on this?

Also, I’m trying to start running and working out consistently over the week, where as before I just kind of did it without tracking my exercise. I run for about 40 minutes, and I want to do his about 3-5 times a week, as well as working out for about 5 days a week.

Can any of you offer some advice on how to stick to the calorie counting, IF and any other things I should be doing to start losing weight? Thanks :)
