Has anyone else noticed some people just do not know how to compliment weight loss?

27/F/5’7 SW: 199 CW: 164 GW: 145

So I’ve lost 35 pounds but I really “dressed for my weight” so the “you’ve lost weight!” comments are starting to happen more frequently. I thought maybe some of you could laugh, relate, and share some awkward encounters.

A normal conversation about my weight loss tends to go like this:

Person: “you’re look great! Have you lost some weight?”

Me: “oh thank you, yes I’ve lost about 35 pounds!”

Person: “wow congratulations! You‘re looking good!”

Sometimes there’s how did you do it talk, you know normal stuff. But about once a week I have conversation that goes more like this:

Person: “you look nice today, have you been losing weight?”

Me: “thank you, and yes I have about 35 pounds!”

completely shocked look

Person: “holy cow!! Wow yeah you’re looking really skinny”

Me: “thanks! I’ve been working at”

assumes conversation is over and starts to walk away/move on in conversation depending on setting

Person: very awkwardly I mean it’s not like you were fat before... I’m not saying you’re fat... I hope I didn’t... I... I just mean you look good. Not trying to be rude I just...”

And then I have to stick around to have an awkward conversation about how it’s fine and I was fat and it’s not insulting to say I’ve lost weight and blah blah blah

Has anyone else experienced these awkward conversations?!
