Tattoos and weight loss?

So I’m looking to get a tattoo. I want a quote on my forearm with some flowers incorporated. Basically I want most of my inner forearm covered. I was going to book an appointment for a consultation, but I was thinking....if I get a tattoo now and lose weigh (looking to lose around 100), will my tattoo start to look strange overtime because the forearm would be getting smaller? I know it’s not the stomach or thigh or an area with a drastic change with weight loss, but it’s still a concern. Should I wait? Or do I really have nothing to worry about?

Also, on a side note, I originally posted this on the main loseit page, but it didn’t post because it said my post (exact one above) didn’t have enough content. What does that mean?

SV- Almost there

I’ve been feeling a little down on myself and decided to do a weigh in today and I’m 20 lbs to my goal weight (150.)

Up until last year-ish, I weighed 195-190, and I’d go to the gym every once in a while, but usually just used walking to class as an excuse for being “active” (which don’t get me wrong, it’s a lot of walking lol.) As a New Years resolution I decided I was going to strive to actually go to the gym. I had done this before, lots of times, but usually just with the goal of weight loss. So I’d lose like 5 lbs, celebrate, then never go back, gain it back and then repeat. But this time, my intentions were purely just to go to the gym and feel comfortable there.

I’m very competitive and structure based, so to start out I had 180 (?) boxes and every time I’d go, I checked it off. Once I got to where I liked the gym and it was routine, I didn’t look at it as much anymore. During summer, I started CICO to (at least) maintain during break, and now here I am ... close to that goal weight I’ve had for literally years.

It’s so weird because I remember thinking it was so far away and such a ridiculous goal to think I could achieve but now it’s just a little bit away. It’s absolutely insane to think about.

Thanks for listening! Hoping everyone is having a good day and power filled day!

How to reinvigorate weight loss? Your weight loss secrets and tips?

Had my daughter early May (gained 22 pounds during pregnancy) and have lose 45 pounds so far. Now 159 at 5’7! (Very happy with how I look)

My brothers wedding is on the 22nd and I want to look as amazing as possible.

Any tips for cutting down fat fast?

I already go to the gym an hour and 15 mins day, take my vitamins, drink a gallon of water, and count calories.

So recommendations I’m looking for are specific foods I should eat, supplements ya’ll recommend and any workouts you guys like for really burning fat/kicking your ass haha!

I can’t eat under 1200 calories though because I like to keep my oversupply of milk for breast feeding but if you have a recommendation of a certain amount of fat/protein I should shoot for than that would be great!!

My progress was deleted from a "body positivy" page because I wasn't "fat enough"

The post and response in question

I am 24/F and my heaviest weight was 212lb at 5'6" and I'm maintaining roughly at 145lb. (Done completely through CICO, 1200-1400kcal a day, no exercise until very recently)

Recently I bought a crop top for the first time in my life because I finally felt like I was at a place where I felt proud enough about my weight loss and body image to do so. (You can see my r/progresspics post in my post history)

My image was shared on a Body Positivity page on Facebook and it was promptly deleted because of an uproar by larger women in the group, saying I wasn't fat enough to be posted there for a before and after. (Losing nearly 70lb isn't that big of a deal apparently)

I feel hurt by this, because women in that group are constantly being praised for their weight loss and/or ability to step out of their comfort zones and wear things they haven't before. But my post was deleted because I wasn't seen as even a "smallfat" in their eyes and therefore did not deserve praise, or even to have my post in their group. I felt ostracized by the most of the people who are nothing less than supportive to all the bigger women in the group. I understand that I wasn't 500lb, but I was still at an unhealthy weight for my height, and finally kicked my butt into gear to get myself down to a healthy BMI and start getting into exercising.

Apparently "body positivity" doesn't matter if the body in question doesn't meet other's weight standards.

Either way, I'm still very much proud of my weight loss. This is just fuel to the fire to get myself in the gym more and really start buckling down on getting myself more active. Can't make everyone happy, but I sure as hell can make myself happy!

Needing advice, wanting to hear what has worked for you all

Hey all! First time posting here.

So I'm currently 31F, I'm 5'9" and 277.2 pounds as of this morning. I've been overweight for the past 10 years, slowly creeping up to the weight I am today. I've never gotten to 280, and I really don't want to.

Currently I am walking 1.5 miles a day during the work week (and absolutely loving it!) and trying to drink all my water (140oz a day if interested) I'll make a list of my complaints about myself and what I've tried. I'd love advice please, I know what I need to do but sticking to it I haven't done.

Calorie counting stresses me out. If I eat a meal that I don't have the exact count for, it freaks me out. (Personally I think this is an underlying mental thing I haven't addressed yet, but if it's not "perfect" I essentially throw a mental fit and don't want to do it anymore)

The longest I stuck with weight loss was for 2 months. I did a 2 low calorie day and 1 high calorie day. I lost 20 lbs in that time, but I had a cheat day that turned into a cheat week that turned into cheat years.

I have trouble prepping my week of food, it's more of just being lazy, but also of what the heck do I eat?

In that note, what the heck do I eat? There are things that upset my stomach and digestion, but I keep hitting a wall when I think about what to eat. I think it's an emotional response. Food = pleasure so if I don't like it I don't want it.

I am addicted to sugar and energy drinks. I'll get off the energy drinks for a while, but inevitably something will upset me and I'll reach for my comfort drink. And then I'm drinking one a day for a week or 2.

If you read all that, thank you for making it this far. I am admitting my issues are very childish in my head, and it's really something I need to work through. If anyone has had an inner child dictating their emotions like this, what did you do to work through it?

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Wednesday, 28 August 2019? Start here!

Today is your Day 1?

Welcome to r/Loseit!

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel awesome and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

Additional resources

Now you’re ready to do this. Here are more details, that may help you refine your plan.

A gentle PSA: Losing weight won't necessarily fix any mental health issues that you have.

When I decided to start losing weight in October of 2018, one of the tipping factors that made me finally take the plunge was the mental illnesses I was struggling with; namely depression and anxiety.

I was absolutely certain that if I got to an acceptable weight, that all these problems would simply melt away with the fat that I was losing. After being fat and unhappy for my whole life, I was convinced that the reason I was unhappy must have been because of my size/the number on the scale/the person who looked back in the mirror.

That didn't happen for me.

I started off at 140kg (310lb), and I am now down to 95kg (210lb) with a little more to go, and I am still the same depressed and anxious person that I once was, except now instead of being depressed and anxious in a 3XL shirt, I'm depressed and anxious in an L shirt. (I'm 6'2 for reference)

I realised that nothing had changed just a few weeks ago when I found an old diary entry from the day I started losing weight, detailing how I was certain I was going to be much happier by losing weight. And don't get me wrong, I am proud of my progress, and losing weight has made me feel good, but the mental health issues I had along the way have persisted.

So I decided to see a therapist. I booked an appointment and went a couple of days ago. I told her about this experience, and how I was certain that losing weight would relieve my mental health issues, but that ultimately I still felt empty inside, she smiled kindly and said these words:

"No matter how much we can change our physical body, it's very hard to change what's already inside us."

That's when I finally understood: my weight isn't stopping me from being happy, my brain is stopping me from being happy.

To anyone who thinks that losing weight will suddenly fix all of your internal issues, just pause for a second, really evaluate if your weight is the only thing stopping you from living your life to the fullest. Consider working on both your physical health and mental health at the same time. Weight loss is a two way street between physical and mental health, and you owe it to yourself to be healthy in both areas.

I love this community, and if you have found the opposite experience, please let us all know about it :)
