Gained 20lbs in 10 months but look pretty much the same? Feeling discouraged that I need to lose 40 lbs now…

Ok so I started taking my fitness journey seriously around January 2023. The last 10 months have been the first time in my life I’ve actually tried weight training and cardio combined. I used to only do heavy cardio and was always in a cycle of extreme weight loss and gradual gain. I am 24 and started at 184.5lbs as a 5’6” female. I am now sitting at 209lbs and WILL NOT budge. I try to follow a deficit consuming about ~1600 calories a day, but honestly the last 10 months I’ve been drinking more than ever (lots of concerts, socially).

What is weird is that my photos from January look almost identical to my photos now. The only major change is my legs are a little more toned now and my glutes are too, but I still look overweight, I just don’t look like I gained 20 lbs. I was so hopeful for meaningful change. The last time I lost ~30lbs was from intense cycling 40 mins 4x a week, stairmaster etc and restricting wayyy too much. I’m trying to do this healthfully but feeling discouraged. The 20lbs could be a lot of muscle considering not much visually has changed, but I want to lose more fat. I’m working on reducing my cortisol levels and reducing my alcohol intake which has been long overdue, but wondering if anyone else has seen a weight gain like this but haven’t noticed too much of a change physically. This is a first for me.

How to improve my weight loosing strategy?

Hey guys. I'm 24 Male. 173cm and when I started I was at 90kgs(198lbs) currently at 87kgs (192lbs) . I usually run 4 days a week and I'm consuming 1800 calories per day.

Mainly I wanted to loose my fat because my current percentage body fat is way too high (39.8).

I've stopped eating all the processed food to avoid unnecessary sugar and fats. I've started my weight loss journey 3 weeks ago and I wanted to know how can I improve my strategy. For now I'm not doing any strength training. I'm thinking to start it from January because first I want to become consistent with my diet and running.

Also, how long will it take me to reach my target weight of 75kgs(165lbs)?

Thanks!!

20 lbs down, 15 to go ~

I (30f) hit my first goal weight a few weeks ago. I’m a 5’6” woman with a starting weight of 170lbs (March 2023). I reached 150 lbs right on schedule (based on the prediction of my loseit app and steadily losing a 1/2 lb per week). I’ve now moved onto working to reach my final goal weight of 135lbs, and am weighing in at about 148lbs at the moment.

And it’s finally happening. I’m finally noticing, like, truly the difference in my body. It’s nuts!

It’s too subtle of a change for others to notice, but it’s enough of a shift that I can now really feel how different the fit of my clothes are. How things that I was worried I was growing out of are now way too loose. How even at the smallest notch, my belts aren’t secure around my waist.

Even my problem areas (upper arms, thighs, and butt) are starting to show shrinkage.

I’m just amazed. Back in March I did not think this was possible. I was so frustrated when I began, especially because I was going about losing weight at a pretty slow pace. I would read about people losing 30 lbs in a month, but I knew at my starting weight, that wasn’t realistic or possible.

I’m so glad that I stuck with it. I’m glad I figured out how to fuel myself the right way so that I wasn’t exhausted and cranky all the time. I’m glad I allowed myself treats along the way. I’m glad I found a new hobby (kickboxing) to help not only with the weight loss, but to also help me get strong.

I’m really hopeful that I’ll be able to monitor and maintain a weight of 135lbs-140lbs for the foreseeable future. I know it’s just weight (and truly just vanity weight at this point), but I do genuinely feel so much more comfortable in my body now than I did just a few months ago.

Great, but for how long?

Great so far but how long!

So I started my weight loss routine 39 days ago after years of being fat I was 320 pounds and decided to lose weight after my mum expressed concerns for my health currently 28 pounds down and going strong I have no desire to pick up any bad food and feel better than I ever have eating a healthy 2200 kcal per day. My question is when did people start to lose motivation but really have to push themselves? I just hope it dosent happen soon I feel great

I honestly didn’t realize how amazing people are that lose weight I think it goes under the radar it’s a complete lifestyle change and it’s very difficult this thread has also been great for my motivation so thanks guys!

Starting my weight loss journey! Day - 0/

Hello Everyone, 18M here from India.

CW=78kg ; GW=68kg

AIM - Weight loss and muscle building.

I'm here to start my fitness journey of fat loss & muscle building. I've tried to lose weight multiple times by combining exercise with the right diet but somehow I can't keep it going for long and ultimately succumb to junk food, but I feel updating about my journey here would keep me disciplined, motivated, and would make me feel that I'm accountable to a few people. Being overweight has affected me in many ways be it in terms of confidence & overall health and I feel I've been wasting my true potential by being in such a state. Currently, I'm a first-year college student here in India and live in a hostel for 4/5 days a week and spend the rest days at home. As a result, I'll have to settle for a low-protein diet for those 4-5 days but will try to cover it up when I'm at home. Till now, here at college, I've been snacking regularly but I'll count my calorie intake from now on. Coming on to the exercise part, I'll be brisk walking daily for a minimum of 30 minutes followed by an hour or so of weight training. Keeping my college schedule in mind, there will be days when I won't be able to work out much or at all, but on those days I'll be mindful of my calorie intake. I'll keep updating my daily diet and workout routine here for an initial span of 30 days. After successfully completing these 30 days, I'll continue my journey here. I'm excited to start this journey. I'd be glad to receive any advice regarding weight loss and muscle building. Feel free to connect and motivate me along. PEACE...

Re-starting weight loss journey

27F, 5-4ft, 180 pounds. Calliper test shows 27-30% body fat.

I've always been into weight lifting. I have muscles everywhere but the amount of fat I have doesn't allow me to look fit..more like...strong fat. People around me can't believe I'm this heavy.

I don't drink juice or coke. I cook every meal. Rarely eat out. But my weakness is sugar. I can eat chocolate, pastries, cake non stop. And those things add many calories and very little macros. Usually I replace main meals for those sugary things because of guilt. I also know that I calm anxiety and stress with sugar.

I want that to stop. I want to stop justifying myself. I know I can achieve great results in a sustainable way. I started today.

Metformin for weight maintenance/ weight loss

My doctor is prescribing me a new antipsychotic and metformin as my paliperidone shot caused me to gain 50lbs in 4 months and I no longer have a period. She said it may not necessarily help with weight loss but I eat one small meal a day and walk five days a week and the scale is still going up.

Does anyone have experience with metformin for weight loss. Any tips maybe I’ve heard there’s plenty of side effects?

I’m hoping it will aid in weight loss because my metabolism has been destroyed by the antipsychotic.

I’d like to hear your personal experiences because I start the medication on Nov 12 th and I’m excited to hopefully make a change.
