plateau hell

Well, it's happened to me. I have hit a dreaded weight loss plateau. 222 pounds give or take for the past 10 days, despite eating at the same calorie deficit I have been for the past five weeks. I don't think I can eat any less, because I am already at a pretty aggressive calorie deficit. Do I wait it out? Do I load on a bunch of calories for a day and pig out? Or is that a really bad idea?

I rationally understand why weight loss plateaus happen, but 10 days seems like a really long time to not lose any weight when I am still at a deficit. It feels like such a loss of time! And I am so frustrated!

I'm also wondering, because I use Happy Scale, whenever this plateau passes, how do I recalibrate my weekly weight loss average? This plateau is going to throw everything off and make it seem like I am only losing one pound per week instead of the two pounds per week I was losing before this happened. This plateau is throwing everything off and it's driving me crazy!

Getting back on track after travel

SW 234 CW 177 F38 5'4"

I traveled with the fam Nov 2-21 for a wedding and gained 7lb. Departed 180lb returned 187lb. Lots of hanging with family and eating in a manner much more like ***the past***. E.g. looking at a party spread and feeling the need to have some of everything; looking at an abundance of food and feeling a weird sense of "responsibility" to eat my share so as to avoid food waste.

Very typical I'm sure for those like me who use food to feel good and have a good time. And who are put in situations that recall the past, mentally emotionally and physiologically. If that makes sense.

And I try to remember the positive aspects of the whole context surrounding the temporary weight gain. For example, my cousin whom I don't see much at all got donuts from a legendary donut place and we ate them together, that was a great time.

Back on track and shifted back to my "new" mentality, that is the best way I can find to describe it. It was perhaps a silver lining, mentally, to take an unplanned break from balls-to-the-wall weight loss as I've been trying to do for a while now.

[Challenge] European Accountability Challenge: December 1st, 2022

Hi team Euro accountability, I hope you’re all well!

For anyone new who wants to join today, this is a daily post where you can track your goals, keep yourself accountable, get support, and have a chat with friendly people at times that are convenient for European time zones. Check-in daily, weekly, or whatever works best for you. It’s never the wrong time to join! Anyone and everyone is welcome! Tell us about yourself and let's continue supporting each other.

For all new people that have joined this month, at the end of the month we do a roundup of what happened. we'll also talk about our goals for December.

How was your November?

You're free to structure this however you want, but think about the following topics:

  • How has your weight loss progressed? Better, or worse than expected?
  • What are some Non Scale Victories that you've experienced this month?
  • Did you set goals, did you keep to them?
  • What went well during this month, what could need improvement?
  • What important lessons did you learn?

Today is also the goal-setting day for December!!

If you're new, every first day of the month we think about small goals we want to achieve this month. They can be weight goals, exercise goals, or anything really... An important aspect is that they are SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time based...

  • Do you have a goal weight for this month, if yes, what is it? For example: maintain a 0.5kg loss a week.
  • Do you have exercise goals? For instance, get in 10.000k steps a day
  • What plans do you have for your diet? Do you have goals there?
  • What are some non-weight/exercise-related goals you have? Here, get creative. Past participants have used this section to stay accountable for their homework, learning languages, pledging not to order junk food, ...

if you’re new, please introduce yourself! Let’s kick some ass!

GF Wants Me To Stop Weight Loss.

A couple years ago I started losing weight. Standing on the scale and seeing 430 spooked me. I’m now down to 286, and tbh I could have done better. My girlfriend doesn’t want me to continue weight loss after I reach about 250, as she has a fear and disgust for men with knobby pointy knees. My first ideal goal was to make it down to 180 and then put muscle on.

Lil weird, but I love her and would like to meet halfway. I’m 5’10. Not sure how to meet her halfway though. What’s the changing point between knobby knees and bear dad bod? cause I’m looking for something between that.

Any input is appreciated if this post goes live lol, sweet dreams folk imma read this in the morning

30 Day Accountability Challenge - December Sign Ups

Hello lose it folks!

It is almost December, the last month of the year, can you believe it? This year is almost done. And many celebrations that in America center around food & sweets. It’s going to be a month full of learning & possibly peppermint flavored everything.

For the newbies to the sub reddit, please start here, so much good info!

https://www.reddit.com/r/loseit/wiki/quick_start_guide

https://www.reddit.com/r/loseit/wiki/faq

And hey, maybe it’s not a bad idea to review them regardless of where you are in your journey.

Let’s get down to the business, shall we?

This is the sign-up post to outline your goals. Please don’t limit yourself to weight loss or health goals, we’d love to hear about your reading list, chores, whatever you want to do in the month ahead.

There will be a daily update post for you to post how your day went, you can use whichever daily post fits your time zone if that’s an issue too. Don’t feel bad for missing a day here & there, this post is to help you feel supported however often you would like to check in.

At the end of the month, there is a wrap up post to reflect on the progress you made or didn’t make & what you learned. Learning is progress, don’t forget that!

We try to foster a supportive, caring place to discuss the actual day to day of deficits & counting & caring so much about how we fuel our bodies & lives. So be kind, interact if you like & hopefully you feel supported and cared for. Leading by example, here I go!

Maintenance calories: Going for maintenance this month.

Exercise 5 days a week (strength work/tbar swings 3 days a week): I need this both for my body & mental health! X/X days.

Do holiday stuff everyday that brings me joy: Nebulous, maybe, easy, also kind of. Maybe one day it’s taking a detour on the way home to look at lights, maybe another day it’s watching a Christmas special, maybe another day it’s chasing my cat with mistletoe. Who knows. I want to emphasize the parts of this season I enjoy so I can handle the stressful shit better.

Writing goal: TBD. I'll have this hammered out by tomorrow. .

Today's gratitude list: Today, I'm grateful for -

Random self-care action I want to conquer today: Changing this one up a little so I remember to take care of me!

Now, onto the fun part, your goals. Please share & let’s end the year on a winning note!

NSV: I’m on my daily walk right now and I just realized how easy this feels!

For context, even at my heaviest I’ve always considered myself at least moderately healthy in the sense that I’ve always been able to go for a long walk and/or do some pretty steep/tough hikes.

But as I’m walking today, I realize that even with only 10ish lbs of weight loss, I feel like I’m gliding! My steps aren’t so heavy. My legs aren’t rubbing one another. I’m not fighting to keep my leggings over my belly pooch.

It’s like my body realized after al these months of walking that it needs to change to do this a little better.

I’m not close to my goal yet. And this past 2 weeks has been a pretty big pause for any progress. But I love this little bit of improvement I noticed today.

Hurtful comments that make you wanna just give up

Im 17f and i started my weight loss journey last year. Its been a big struggle for me as I have binge eating disorder. Today in class, a guy behind me kept repeatedly talking about this girl who got really fat in the past few years. He would just exclaim “SHE GOT SO FAT OMG” multiple times. Im the only overweight person in the entire grade so it was just really hurtful to hear all of the guys laughing about that. Ik it wasn’t any of my business but hearing how other people think about fat people demotivates me and makes me wanna cry.
