How do I get my dream body? It feels impossible.

Hi everyone, I have been trying to lose weight for a quite a while now and it just feels impossible.

I can't afford to go to a dietician right now because it's pretty expensive where I live and I don't have enough money saved for it, so I tried to search a bit on internet but I get so discouraged and I end up thinking 'alright, I have to be fat for the rest of my days'.

I am 165 cm and I weight around 78-79 kilos. I want to lose about 25 kilos but I don't know how, when I try to eat less I end up binging and when I try to exercise I end up giving up (I don't want to go to the gym because I feel like everyone's watching and judging me, even tho I know they don't.. but that's how my mind thinks).

Lately I've been watching some tv shows about idols and dancers and every time I watch any episodes I cry and cry because I would love to become a dancer one day but it feels impossible. I tried dancing as to move my body a little more but I het frustrated because I can't do certain movements, I can't catch up with the rhythm, I can't learn a lot because I get tired... and all of that just makes me feel like my body is a burden to me and also to my family.

I guess what I lack is discipline but I don't know how to built it, I don't have a routine, I don't know what to eat and what to don't, I don't know what exercises to do and what I shouldn't do...

I just feel like losing weight would probably resolve 99% of my problems, actually I'm pretty confident about it because growing up with this body gave me so many problems and my mind hot to a point where I don't even want to go out because I don't want people to look at my body...

Please, someone help me, please tell me what should I do, if there are any sources online that I can use for my weight loss journey, if there are any youtube videos I can follow for exercising, even if there are any Podcasts... I'm okay with everything..

I am officially overweight and I’m so proud of myself!

Because I’m no longer obese! F24, starting weight 185, current weight, 163, and goal weight is between 130-140, not quite sure until I hit 140. But honestly as of now I feel like I look pretty much the exact same. I can notice a small difference in the mirror but haven’t really noticed that my clothes are getting too big. Also haven’t received any comments that I look like I lost weight. I’m hoping once I get down to 150 I will start noticing major changes, as of now the scale dropping is the only thing keeping me going. When did you start noticing your weight loss? When did you go down in clothes size? I can’t wait to reach my goal weight and buy all new clothes that I haven’t been confident enough to wear for years. Either way, I’m just so proud of myself. And I know this time I’m really gonna stick to it.

Just hit my half point in my weight loss.

Started back in Mid august for my weight loss journey. What pushed me over the edge was one of the worst acid reflux I have ever experienced. Felt like something was clawing back at my throat and neck. Wouldn’t go away for 2 weeks until I sorted my diet out. My height is 1.85m (m) weight was 112kg now I’m at 101 kg.

Went mostly for plant, fruit and fish diet.Dropped all sugar from sodas to ice cream. The hardest part was kicking the sugar addiction but managed to do it in a week and a half. After 4-5 days of new diet I noticed how much my mood has improved. After 2 weeks noticed that my skin started improving at 3 weeks it has cleared up and dramatic improvement on my back acne.Just losing 10 kg made such a huge difference to my health I’m looking forward what another 10-15kg would do.

There was one bullshit thing would have lost more weight if it wast for covid as I was considered obese so I was on priority of getting the vaccine. So had purposely eat more so I wouldn’t lose weight to quickly that’s bullshit if you ask me. Funny thing is I didn’t realize how much everything is loaded with sugar until after 2 months had a bite of Oreo cookie and some iced tea. Spitted out the Oreo and poured out the iceTea it felt like I was downing pure sugar. Don’t think I’m ever going back to my old diet or even hybrid version of it. I know I’m going to miss dr.pepper and some bbq ribs but it’s just not worth it .Now I started jogging every day 6km noticed that I’m actually enjoying it as the burn feels rather nice . Some of the neighbors came up to me and complimented on my weight loss. So yeah this work out thing and diet is rather fun. Just a simple question how to deal with blisters on feet ?

Getting annoyed with my boyfriend because he's not joining in my weight loss

At the start of this year my bf and I agreed to lose weight.

I went from 143 to 109lbs (5'2) he has gone from 215 (5'11) to.. 208. He has lost 7lbs in the same time it took me to reach my goal weight and stay fit for the last few months. He's done nothing but complain the whole time.

His laziness and bad eating is causing me to lose attraction. He always says he's going to improve his diet and get fit, then he "forgets". I cook him low calorie food then he gets a takeaway. He hates his body and especially his stomach and won't even let me see him naked, yet this is still not enough for him to actually work at it.

After I comment on his weight or diet he sometimes does these silly 4-5 day fasts to make some kind of point, but then inevitably just gains it back..

Not sure how to help him at this point.

Ready, Set, Sniff! 7 Scents That Could Help with Weight Loss

You don’t have to live next door to a bakery to know that your sense of smell has a powerful influence on your appetite. Even when you’re not hungry, just a whiff of good food cooking can stimulate cravings and entice you to eat.

You might not know, however, that certain pleasant scents can have the opposite effect on your appetite. Recent research indicates that aromas such as peppermint, citrus and vanilla may help control your appetite and alleviate cravings, making them good scents for weight loss. And although further research is certainly warranted in this area, there’s certainly no harm in adding these scents to your life. What’s the worst thing that could happen? You have awesome scents wafting through your home?

Here are our seven favorite scents for weight loss:

1. PEPPERMINT

The science: Study participants were asked to sniff peppermint oil every two hours for five days, according to a report published in the medical journal Appetite. For the next five days, they sniffed a placebo. The subjects consumed 1,800 fewer calories during the time when they were exposed to the scent of peppermint than when they were exposed to the placebo.

How to use it: You can put peppermint oil—available in many grocery and drug stores—in an aromatherapy diffuser or burn a candle made with real essential oils. Even easier, brew yourself a cup of mint tea when you feel hungry between meals. You can just hold it in your hands and inhale, but don’t hesitate to sip it—the tea has zero calories and it even helps soothe your digestive system.

2. OLIVE OIL

The science: At the German Research Center for Food Chemistry, study participants ate yogurt that had added olive oil, butter, lard or canola oil as a supplement to their normal diet. The subjects who had the olive oil-infused yogurt reported the strongest feelings of fullness. Although scientists weren’t surprised, considering that olive oil has fatty acids that create the sense of satisfied appetite, they were surprised that those eating the canola oil (which has the same fatty acids) reported feeling less full. Even more shocking, though? In a follow-up study, the scientists compared the appetites of subjects eating yogurt enhanced with just the smell of olive oil to those eating plain yogurt. Even without the oil’s fats, those eating the aroma-enhanced yogurt consumed fewer calories throughout the day than the control group, and had more serotonin—a chemical associated with satiety—in their blood.

How to use it: Olive oil (actually, all cooking oils) is categorized as an Extra on the Nutrisystem program, because while oils are full of healthy fats, they are also high in calories, so you should be careful to have no more than the recommended serving of one to three teaspoons in your daily diet. Give your salad a spritz or two of olive oil from a spray bottle—that’s enough to give you a healthy whiff and bring out the flavor in the vegetables.

3. STRAWBERRY

The science: When 27 subjects were exposed to the scent of strawberries before drinking sweetened milk, they reported feeling more satisfied after the drink than when they weren’t presented with the fruit’s aroma, according to a study published in the Journal of Nutrition. The strawberry scent also diminished the study participants desire for sweets.

How to use it: When you feel a strong craving for sweets, slice up a few strawberries and eat them. If the fruit isn’t in season, add thawed frozen berries to a smoothie or hot cereal. Strawberry isn’t just one of the great scents for weight loss, it’s also one of our favorite fruit options!

4. GRAPEFRUIT

The science: The scent of limonene, a component of grapefruit oil, activated fat-burning in laboratory animals, says a study published in the journal Neuroscience Letters. The aroma works, the researchers theorize, by stimulating the sympathetic nerve system, which tells your body to burn fat. They determined that 15 minutes of exposure to the oil three times a week reduced the subjects’ food intake and body weight.

How to use it: You can eat whole grapefruit, a SmartCarb that is high in fiber and other nutrients. Most of the limonene, however, is in the rind. Squeeze a piece of skin gently to infuse the air or a glass of water with the colorless oil. You can also buy limonene or simple citrus oil to use in an aromatherapy diffuser.

5. VANILLA

The science: In a study at St. George’s Hospital in London, England, 200 overweight people wore skin patches with one of a few different aromas on the back of their hands for two weeks. Those wearing patches with vanilla consumed fewer sugary foods and beverages than the people with patches containing other scents. The subjects in the vanilla-patch group also lost an average of 4.5 pounds during the study period.

How to use it: Many perfumes and other fragrance products contain vanilla, so you can dab a bit on and sniff it throughout the day. Vanilla extract is a low-calorie, fat-free flavoring that you can add to hot cereal, smoothies and other foods. Its versatility makes vanilla one of our absolute favorite scents for weight loss.

6. JASMINE

The science: A group of 67 women in a study reported in the journal Appetite were shown colorful photographs of chocolate desserts. They were then asked to breathe in one of three odors—green apple, jasmine or water. The group sniffing jasmine reported significantly lower chocolate cravings than the people in the other two groups.

How to use it: Jasmine is a beautiful plant with fragrant white flowers. You can grow it inside your home or workplace and take a whiff whenever you’re craving chocolate. Or, buy a jasmine soap or candle. You can also buy jasmine essential oil at drugstores or health food shops and use it in an aromatherapy diffuser. There are also countless jasmine tea varieties out there. Brew a bit pot and you won’t just enjoy your whole home becoming filled with one our favorite scents for weight loss… you’ll get a tasty zero-calorie drink out of it, too!

7. LAVENDER

The science: Lavender has long been used as a natural remedy for stress, which is a common cause of eating when you’re not hungry. In a study published in the journal Archives of Oral Biology, researchers documented that the scent of the herb reduced stress among students solving complex arithmetic problems. Those that were exposed to airborne organic essential oil of lavender had lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol in their saliva than the control group.

How to use it: Add a few drops of lavender oil to your bath to soothe your nerves and ward off cravings. You can also find lavender-scented soaps and skin creams that envelop you in its lightly floral fragrance all day. This is one of our favorite scents for weight loss since it’s versatile and comes in many forms!

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Saturday, 16 October 2021? Start here!

Today is your Day 1?

Welcome to r/Loseit!

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel *awesome* and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

feeling triggered by other people’s starting weight

when i started my weight loss journey, i was obese. now my bmi is around 23.5-24. i know i’m not particularly thin, but i’m a lot smaller than i was. so it makes me feel self conscious when i see posts of other women with similar stats but they’re only just now wanting to lose weight, whereas this is where i am after losing 60 lbs :/ i know comparison is the thief of joy, but i feel like every time i start to feel accepting and happy with my body, i’ll become aware that other women my size think they’re fat and want to lose weight and it upsets me. not sure how to avoid this aside from just not browsing weight loss subs on reddit. advice welcome. not sure why i’m being downvoted.
