I'd rather not die young.

Yesterday was my 25th birthday. I've had plenty of ups and downs in my weight loss journey. Unfortunately, I am currently the heaviest I have ever been. I have struggled recently to find the strength to start losing weight again.

I had a sort of "mid-life" crisis yesterday. Being 25, I kept thinking throughout the day, its like half of my life is over. Currently weighing in at 350lbs with a family history of diabetes and health issues, my own grandpa passing away at 65, I couldn't help but think, "with the path I'm currently on, I might not live much longer than 50. It's kind of a scary thought for me to think.

I don't want to die young like that. It's less about looking good and all of that, and more about living as long as I can. Because at the rate I'm going, dying young is a high possibility.

So, what's my strategy? What am I going to actually do about it? I'm trying to take it slow. I'm currently making conscious decisions about when I eat, and how much I eat right now. Just eating a little less at every meal while making sure I'm eating in the window of time I chose to.

I still fear that I'll "fail" and stop doing what I need to do to lose the weight and become healthy. But I need to try.

Does anyone have any tips with trying to keep going or a way to not be "burned out" while losing weight?

Little bit lost after a lot of progress...

Hello! I signed up for Reddit just because of this sub. So helpful. Anyways, I've come really far in my fitness journey, but at the moment feel pretty lost and would love some feedback. I'm a 39 yo F, 5'5.

Background: 1.5 years ago, I was about 175 lbs. I started taking martial arts classes, and it was like a catalyst for me. I already ate healthy, homemade food, but I started watching my portions and doing some running and bodyweight exercise in addition to the MA classes. Dropped about 20 lbs very quickly. In January, I started counting calories and being much more serious about both MA and calisthenics. Got very close to my goal weight of 140. Measurements went from 38-34-41 to 35-29-35. Yay! Then weight loss came to a halt about 2 months ago.

Current situation: Weight fluctuates between 142-146. Measurements are pretty solidly at 35-29-35. I currently work out 6 days a week. In the AM, I do a 45 min circuit workout that includes calisthenics, jump rope, and martial arts practice. In the PM, I swim (leisure but fairly active) 3x a week and go to MA classes 3x a week. I'm eating approx. 1700-1800 calories of homemade food that includes a decent amount of protein and plenty of veggies. I love exercising--it's wonderful for my mental health and, with young kids at home, my only real hobby right now.

I need advice about:

--my calorie intake. The Loseit! app says that to lose 1/2 lb per week, I should be eating 1660 cal a day. I really do try hard, but good grief I'm hungry ALL THE TIME. I classified myself as "moderately active." Does that seem right? I work from home and have young kids so I also get about 12k steps a day.

--my goals. I have tons of physical performance goals (getting my black belt, progressing in bodyweight exercises) but not sure about weight and measurement goals. My upper body looks muscular, but I have extra in the thighs and lower belly that I'm not thrilled with.

--basically, will I keep losing body fat if I keep up my current habits? At this point, I am definitely looking more muscular so sometimes I think things are still changing, just much more slowly. Other times I think I'm deluding myself, haha. I flirt with getting a food scale and cracking down on calorie counting, but sometimes the thought of getting more strict with myself makes me want to do a faceplant in a box of Cheezits.

Thanks for reading! Any advice about my regime or where I should go from here would be much appreciated!

Need some weight loss advice...

So I’m female, about 5ft 4 and 160 pounds, and a college student. I’m on the naturally curvy side and have a little bit of chub on my belly. I also have really thick thighs and a bit of a booty. I have a little bit of a double chin but it’s mostly when I smile, and I think it’s because of my naturally round face.

I’d like to lose some weight, but I don’t want to lose weight in my butt, boobs or thighs. Just mostly in the belly area.

Does anyone have any advice to get in shape at home, and get toned? (I struggle with body dysmorphia, a little bit of an eating disorder and incredibly low confidence, so I’d rather not consider rigid calorie count an option... ) Thanks!

Does anyone cycle between plans??? (Keto, Zone, CICO, etc?)

So I lost a lot of weight 2-3 years ago (Almost 40 pounds) by doing primarily Keto. I've gained about 20 back since then, and part of my struggle is that I just can't seem to not eat carbs... and after several successful days or streaks of eating Keto I'll fall back into a carb binge.. probably because I have nothing to fall back on while wanting carbs and I go nuts.

Eating Keto is easy for me, but if there is a day I want some carbs I'm wondering what the thoughts are from everyone on something I can safely and confidently revert to that is also healthy in the weight loss area in the terms of a plan? Like when on Keto and you really want carbs, do you do a day of Zone by not going over your Calorie goal... or does it just not matter what the hell diet it is and it is all about the CICO?

I've decided that I really want to lose the 20 pounds I've gained but I need to do it with a realistic expectation that I am going to want to eat carbs at some point, and some days Keto just doesn't cut it. Thanks for the input!

The end of my weight loss journey, for now (210 to 160)

https://imgur.com/a/KOGGdpk - progress photos.

TLDR Here’s an imgur album of my progress throughout the last year. The photo with me in the red polo is what made me realize I needed to start losing weight before I went down the slippery slope of out-of-control weight gain. Losing weight has been one of the hardest things I’ve done, but also the most rewarding. The confidence I have now, the discipline I’ve gained, and the lessons I’ve learned are priceless.

STATS M 22 : SW:206-210 lbs CW: 160 lbs

I started counting calories in June 2018 after seeing a photo of myself at the U.S. open while on vacation. I realized I had just seen the first chubby picture of myself. I had just graduated college so I knew I had no excuses to keep gaining weight.

After getting home from that vacation I decided it was time to start losing weight. My 4 years of college had essentially been a “dirty bulk”, where I thought exercise would make me lose weight without having to watch my diet. I worked out a lot but never lost any weight. I was shocked how quickly the weight fell off after I downloaded my fitness pal. I set my intake at 1850 calories, and stuck to that goal for nearly a year. But After six months I mostly eyeballed my calorie intake and still managed to keep dropping weight.

My secrets? Black coffee and sparkling water. I did a “cheater” intermittent fasting plan: I had a yogurt every morning right when I got to work at 9 a.m, and not eat again for 10 hours (while drinking lots of water). When I get hungry the first time, I drink the black coffee. When I get hungry a second time, I drink a sparkling water. If I get hungry again before I leave work at 5, I would eat something small to curb my appetite (<150 calories), usually an apple or banana depending on what’s in the break room.

Then i would FEAST for dinner. Having such a low calorie intake for the beginning of the day let me eat huge dinners. It was nice to be able to go out to my favorite fast foods once and a while and not worry about going over on calories.

About a month ago I bought a golf membership, and started playing 9 or 18 holes before work every morning. I dropped 7 lbs this month out of nowhere, but it’s probably because of walking so far with a heavy bag of clubs on my back!

Now that I’ve rediscovered my love for golf, I have a purpose to get in the best shape possible. It’s about time I stopped focusing on losing weight and started focusing on adding some muscle. I’ve upped my intake to 2600 and am taking weightlifting seriously again. I’ll be tracking my weight daily to make sure I don’t gain more than 2-5 lbs a month. My ultimate goal is a 6-pack so I’ll probably have to do another cut in a few months to get lean again.

The craziest thing is how hard it is now to hit 2600 calories. A year ago I was probably eating >3000 every day without a problem. Now I put a lot of effort into making sure I eat enough. I have to use my fitness pal and food scale again because I noticed I was underestimating my intake. It’s amazing how my relationship with food has completely flipped upside-down. It’s nice that I’m finally able to break PR’s at the gym now that I’m not at a calorie deficit anymore.

This community has helped me a lot, and reading everyone’s success stories was hugely inspiring. I’m excited that it’s finally my turn to share my success.

For everyone still looking to hit their goals, keep it up! You can do it!!

One year progress (300 lbs to 188)

Clothed Before/After

Shirtless Before/After

I posted in /r/progresspics but forgot to post here. I started in May of last year, so this is one year of progress.

Diet-wise I followed CICO and tried to eat as much protein as possible. Right now I'm at 1700 calories a day, might lower it if I continue to plateau.

As far as exercise goes, I only lift weights twice a week - back/biceps/abs one day and shoulder/chest/triceps the other day. I play soccer 2-3 times a week, which is amazing cardio and a lot of fun. Diet is the most important thing when it comes to weight loss, but being active 4-5 days a week definitely helped too.

Kinda disappointed

Hello, I started my weight loss in January around 235 and my highest weight was probably a year ago, around 260. Now, I’ve reached my goal weight of 180, and I’m really disappointed. I still look so goddamn fat. I’m a 6 foot tall male with a natural stocky build (broad shoulders, somewhat easy to build muscle). Since I’m naturally a little bigger, I thought at 180 I’d be at the perfect weight, but I still have a ton of fat on my stomach especially when I bend over, it’s obvious. Man boobs are the same situation too. I’d post a picture if I wasn’t so embarrassed. I think most would suggest trying to build muscle, but I’m too embarrassed to go to the gym, and I don’t know why. I also pretend I’m not trying to lose weight if I get asked because I feel self conscious. Maybe there’s some way to do it at home? It would have to be quiet and something I could do in my room. Or, should I just keep losing? I don’t get it, how can someone that’s 6 feet tall 180 lbs look so overweight without actually being that overweight? Maybe my scale is wrong?
