Making a vow to r/loseit to get back on track.

Hey folks! I just wanted to make a statement here to hold myself accountable.

I started my weight loss journey a few years ago at 290 lbs, and went down to 230 lbs through a lot of effort. I then fell off the wagon, but got back on it last spring, and made it to 225. However, between a trip to New York City and summer vacation in general, I've gone back up to 230lbs.

Today, I'm making a vow to get back on the wagon and resume my loss. If you have any advice for someone trying to get back on the CICO wagon, I would love to hear them.

I'm having a lot of trouble resisting treats when they are available, and this is particularly an issue, as my office is frequently offering up pastries and the like.

12 Strawberry Recipes Sweet Enough to Eat

Most people are surprised to learn that strawberries aren’t actually berries at all—botanically speaking, that is. This member of the rose family is the enlarged receptacle of a flower. Regardless, of its origins, the strawberry is a delicious and healthy fruit that is packed with vitamins and minerals. In fact, strawberries are actually higher in vitamin C—and lower in calories—than oranges. They also contain folate, potassium, manganese, dietary fiber, and magnesium—making strawberry recipes the ultimate (and healthy) treat.

In addition to being nutritious, strawberries are also an incredibly versatile fruit. They can be sliced, baked, pureed or even just eaten whole. Their sweet flavor makes them ideal for healthy snacks and desserts that will satisfy a sweet tooth without derailing one’s healthy lifestyle.

Low/No Calorie Mint Options

Thanks so much to all of you - you've been a huge inspiration and have helped me make it through 1/3 of my weight loss journey so far.

I'm a 6'5" 35/M so I'm doing CICO, limiting myself to 1800-2000 kcals per day. Problem is, I also quit smoking about 2 years ago. I quit with nicotine lozenges, and then quit those as well about a year ago by switching to Altoids or other sugar-free mints. I still chomp mints like crazy and would prefer not to stop, as when I try to stop I get very tempted to smoke again.

I never bothered to count my mint calories, they're just some sugar-free mints? Must be negligible.

Nope. Started tracking those and turns out I'm ingesting 50-200 kcals of mints per day! Plus, now that I really think about it, the ingredient list for lots of these mints is pretty complex. I'm also trying to generally eat simple, plant-based foods and 50 altoids/tic-tacs per day doesn't really line up with that.

But, I NEED MAH MINTS. Honestly, I just love having a strong pepperminty taste in my mouth often. I drink 10 20oz water bottles/day so it's not an issue of being thirsty.

Has anyone faced this problem? Any suggestions? I don't really like that most of these mints are quite sweet, I don't need a sweet taste, just a strong minty taste.

Thanks!

Losing Weight To Fast? ( 20 y/o Male ) Advice?

( This was reposted here by advice from people in the r/weightwatchers sub reddit)

So about three months ago I started on my WW (weightwatchers) Journey for some much needed weight loss.

For a bit of background:

I'm a 20 year old guy with a height of 6' 2" ( 188cm). Before starting WW my diet was absolutely terrible, I was living away from home for school and was not in the best place mentally which caused me to frequently binge eat things like pizzas, pastas, cake like foods, bread, etc. My starting weight was 340lbs (~154kg) as measured by my family's old bathroom scale. Even though I weighed this much and had a lot of fat on my body I wasn't inactive.I had a sizable amount of muscle mass and I've always had a very broad shouldered build.

Starting out:

Since starting I've moved away from home for work and with my new settings made a bunch of drastic life changes. I've gotten into cycling and bike about 14km 2-4 times a week weather permitting, taken up walking/hiking on the weekends, and done a complete 180 in terms of my diet. My diet now consists of a lot of fresh meats and vegetables, soups, yogurts, stirfrys, etc. And the weight really seems to be coming off now. I don't often hit my smart points target but generally I'm eating low point foods and avoiding un-necessary treats during the week. But to be clear I feel full and don't feel like I'm under eating.

Fast forward 3 months:

I've lost nearly 40lbs (18kg). Don't get me wrong I'm very happy with my results so far and plan to continue for as long a I can (my goal weight is ~200lbs), but I'm concerned that maybe my weight is coming off too fast. 40lbs over the 12 weeks since I've started averages out to about 3.3lbs/week, which seems reasonable for a person of my size, but its my last few weigh ins that have me a little concerned.

Here are all my weekly weigh-ins since I've started:

340 (day 1)

(skipped this week for some reason)

335.5

323.9

328.4

323.2

327.5 (Bought a new and more accurate scale)

325.7

322.4

320.5

(went camping)

312.9

306.3

301.2 (last week)

The jumps of 5-6lbs/week have me thinking that maybe I'm losing weight too fast. I had assumed that by three months in my weight loss per week would have stabilized around the 2-3lbs/week mark but it doesn't seem to be slowing yet. I'm mainly concerned about getting more loose skin than I would if i was losing slower. So I wanted to see what all of you think, maybe some of you have some experience with this? Let me know.

Maintenance Monday on Wednesday: What's Your Keystone?

As the title says, what's your keystone reason for maintaining your weight?

Choosing to start and continue losing weight can happen for all kinds of reasons, some more abstract than others, but what's the one concrete thing that motivates you to do the sometimes boring, sometimes hard work of maintenance? 'My health' isn't going to get me not to eat the delicious food, even if I've had my calories for the day/week, or go to the gym when it's raining. That's not something I can touch or measure day to day. I think at its core, I choose to maintain my weight loss, and take active steps toward maintaining when not on autopilot, because I don't want to be a regain statistic in general and to specific people in my life. I didn't come this far and work this hard and learn that yes, CICO works, weight loss is possible, and basically everything mainstream media knows about weight is wrong, just to let myself regain the weight. Hell no.

What about you?

[OFFER] It’s my birthday! Anyone need women’s clothes size L/XL?

It’s my birthday today and I’m celebrating my weight loss!

Stats: 27F, 5’0” | SW: 180.8 | CW: 131

I’ve lost close to 50 pounds since starting in February due to CICO and exercise. It’s been a journey of learning how to eat right and weekly cheat meals. I went from size 14/16 to size 6 since then.

Anyway, today’s the birthday! To celebrate, I’m looking to offer some of my clothes I can no longer fit into. I love shopping so I’ve replaced the majority of my wardrobe already. This is the second time I’ve done this on the subreddit. Last time I was able to send clothes to 6 redditors!

I’m offering up clothes sizes L/XL (more closely fitting L; some will be fitness) and size 14. I am generally a busy person, so no pictures - you’ll get a box of whatever I can fit in a large priority box.

I’ll pay for shipping, you just need to PM me for more info.

Holy Carp! I've gone down 10 dress sizes!

I'm 44F Irish and today went to Marks & Spencers to see if anything in the regular clothing range fitted me yet. I'm down 68 pounds but am still wearing my old clothes. They are getting very very baggy but I'm just too scared to try anything smaller.

I go to regular shops every few months, just to see if anything fits me yet. Usually I would go to the plus size store or section. Any time something fits me, I think they must have made a mistake with their sizes. That they must be very generous with their measurements.

Today I tried on a size 16 pencil mini skirt. Size 16 here is size 12 in the US. Ok, it had a stretchy waist but it fit.

It fit.

I tried on a size 18 top. (14 US) and that slid on too.

I bought them both before I could doubt myself. (€60 sheesh!!) but I really don't know if I would have the confidence to wear them.

I used to be buying size 26 and only was able to get those sizes online. I don't know what to do. I feel like I'm ungrateful, but all I can see is the fat woman in the mirror and just cannot see or accept the almost 70 pound weight loss.

My friends and SO see it and say I look amazing but I just think they are being kind. I don't know how to get rid of the obese woman inside of me who is stopping me from being brave enough to wear something that fits.

I started writing this as a yay - I've dropped 10 dress sizes, but I'm just too hard on myself to believe I actully look good.

Sorry for the rant, but can anyone relate?
