Bingeing after successful dieting and maintenance

I lost about 20 pounds two years ago ( 5’0 SW:130 GW: 1110ish Final Weight: 107.6) and consistently weighed in at 107.6 since then. I occasionally fluctuated up to 109 after a big day out eating or a vacation but within two days I always went back down.

I went back to college in person this semester for the first time since my weight loss and decided I wanted to start weightlifting. I’ve made great progress but since starting (in September) my weight is way up! I was weighing at about 110 before thanksgiving and now I’m at 112 since thanksgiving. All my measurements are the same but that number is fucking with my head and making me feel like I’m fatter even though everything fits the same etc.

So, I have tried since the beginning of October to drop the extra few pounds. I’m doing nothing as extreme as when I actually lost weight (500-1000 calories a day) I stick around 1200. I used to weightlift 3 times a week, now I am at 5 days a week plus one day of abs.

However, I can stick to my diet for a week or so and before I’ve even lost a pound some social event will come up where there is food and I go and instead of just having one donuts and being at mantenece for the day I eat 4 donuts and 6 spoonfuls of Nutella and ruin literally all the progress I made. I don’t restrict the types of food I eat on my diet just calories so I don’t know why this happens.

The first time I dieted I restricted so much more than this and I never did this type of bingeing does anyone have any advice!

[Question/Advice] How much does the basal metabolism impact in the weight loss process?

Hi, 24 y.o. F here. I weight 59 kg and I'm 171 cm tall. I just wanted to ask which is the overall effect of the particuar process of the basal metabolism. Looking at my level of activity and my measurements, I calculated with an online tool my basal metabolism being like ~1400 kcal a day, and I'm currently eating 1500 kcal daily with food. If I add exercise and sport to the "simply being alive" calorie burn, does that mean I have a balanced calorie income - calorie outcome?

100th day logging!

I'm amazed that I've gotten this far, so I thought I'd celebrate a little with you all and share some thoughts.

I haven't updated my flair in a little bit, I'm now 61.9kg (136.5lb), having lost 9.1kg in the past 100 days. I know thats a little fast because I'm not eating back any exercise calories, but I've been pretty sedentary for the past 3 months as we have been in lockdown and I'm only recently back at work.

I've been eating roughly 1300-1350 calories during this time; mfp has my goal at about 1250 now but I deliberately eat a little more just because I'm 5'7 and don't want to get too close to 1200. And especially because in the past week I've gone back to work and I'm doing 10-20k+ steps each shift so I don't mind going over my calorie goal by a bit on days I'm working.

I had a week after maybe 2 months where I was getting tired of being in a deficit so I allowed myself to take a break and eat at maintenance, unfortunately this slipped real fast into just a week of binging as I have trouble with that, but I kept tracking as accurately as I could. I managed to start back again in my deficit and that felt pretty good to get back to, and I did the maths and would've gained about 1 pound over that week. So that helped minimise my anxiety about how much I'd eaten, and reassured me that some of the weight gain the scale showed was water.

It's mind boggling to see the numbers on the scale, they don't really mean anything to my brain anymore because they're so... Foreign? Each time I think about my weight I have to concentrate to remember the number because its so different to what I usually weighed before. I don't know the last time I was this weight - probably when I was about 13.

The body dysmorphia is also real, as so many of you all will know. Some days I think I look super different and great, and some days I feel horrible and just like before. I caught a glimpse of my upper arms in a mirror today and it was so strange because I thought "those look like the arms of a slim person" and that isn't me in my brain. And on the other had when I put my work uniform back on after these 3 months of lockdown and weight loss, I got quite discouraged because I felt like I looked the exact same. They're absolutely right that it takes a while before your brain catches up to how your body looks.

One thing that's quite interesting is that because I get a fair amount of weight loss/exercise content on Instagram, I sometimes come across photos of people with similar heights or weights to me and its so interesting to compare them with me - not in a bad or degrading way, just honestly curious to see from the outside what people who are the same as me on paper. I don't really take anything from it but it's an intriguing experience.

Some other things I've noticed; a few of my vertebrae are visible when I slouch, and I actually got a bruise on one of them from sitting badly in an uncomfy chair, that was weird. My collar bones are more visible than they've ever been. It's easier to stand up straight. I don't hate the way my hands look now - I've always had chubby fingers. I have to position my legs carefully when sleeping on my side because my knees and ankles are uncomfortable.

Anyway thanks for reading, it's been a bit of a ramble about thoughts I've had over this time, and this is definitely the most successful and educational bout of 'dieting' I've had over the past 4 or so years, during which I've on-and-off lost a total of 34kg. I'm grateful for this sub, I've learned a lot and gained a lot of motivation, so good luck to everyone else on here.

Am I Eating Too Much or Too Less?

I'm 24, 5' 7", male, and weigh 80 kg. I started working out (strength, followed by 30 minutes intense cardio) a few weeks ago. I'm yet to check on my weight. But, I've been concerned about my diet. Here's what I've been eating all this while:

1.A bowl of Kellogg's Mueslix + 2-3 Strawberries + One banana + Milk in the morning

  1. No lunch

  2. Some cooked veggies or salad in the evening

  3. One scoop of GNC isolated whey protein in water, that gives about 20g protein per scoop

  4. One scoop of BCAA with one litre water during workouts

  5. 2-3 cups of black coffee

I've no other health conditions. I can feel that I might've lost some weight but I'm not too sure. My goal is to build muscle and lose fat. I believe, I've to be in reasonable deficit every day to take care of the latter part.

I've been overweight all my life. So, have been thinking whether I'm eating too little or should I cut some more things.

Also - if I'm in deficit, what should be my ideal weight loss per month?

Final weight loss journey (no disordered eating edition)

I've been very preoccupied obsessing about eating and weight for like ever basically. Like since 4th grade. Which is really sad cause I wasnt overweight til like 9th grade I guess cause of depression (wow what a surprise lol) and then I yoyod a lot since then. But for the last few years I've just been fat like too fat and now I got 80 lbs to lose cause this is unhealthy. The way I lost weight in the past was just to starve myself on like 900-1200 cals a day while working out. But I'm not doing that again cause obviously it doesn't work long term. Finally gonna go through with healthy consistent choices that I can apply to the rest of my life. And I'm making this dumb post to hold myself to it I guess. So yes! To healthy choices and hopefully happiness (exercise endorphins baby!!)
