Scared of losing weight because I don’t want my tattoos to be ruined.

I’m 5’8 215 lbs. A month ago I was 225. It feels great to have already lost some weight but this isn’t nearly enough. Im still very overweight and hate the way I look. I wanna get down to 165. The only problem is I love my tattoos and don’t want them to be ruined by my weight loss. I wanna lose weight so bad but that is honestly making me scared to do it. I would be devastated if I finally reached my goal and all of a sudden my ink didn’t look right. Obviously the 10 pounds I lost so far hasn’t made it look different at all. But I’m scared that when I reach around 195 it’s going to start to look messed up and only get worse.

The Beginning

Hi All,
I'm 25, I had a really shitty year and managed to put on about 45lb,

I was already not too happy about my weight at ~200lbs as I had a good bit of excess fat, but having comfort ate and drank my way through a lot of my family/personal issues that came at me in buckets in 2021, I've decided I was going to make a change.

Some Background - I've lost 40/50 lbs before when I was 16, and know the sacrifices and dedication it takes, after I lost the weight, I had kept it off in the most part, maybe creeping up 10-15 pounds over the 5-6 years since I had hit my lowest weight - So I have a good idea of what changes need to be made.

For the last 2 weeks I've been making those changes, I was afraid to step on the scales before I started, but today I stepped on, and to no surprise I am 246.5lb. I was expecting the worst, Im upset with myself, but that doesn't matter as I need to do what needs to be done.

My intention with this post, is for it to be my first weekly post, to help keep myself accountable and motivated, and hopefully motivate other's as well.

I'm a 6 foot tall man, and have fairly broad build (wide shoulders etc.) so in clothes, I hold the weight OK.

My Goal is to hit 180/185lb, and I intend on doing so by September of this year, aiming to lose 2lb a week.
I suspect I will lose a lot more than 2lb in the beginning, then weight loss will slow, but once I'm moving in the right direction I will be happy.

Choosing recovery

Hi - I'm just starting out here and I guess I'm looking to start a discussion and seek some support by sharing my experiences. A little over 3 years ago, I hit rock bottom in my addiction to drugs and alcohol. I didn't have a home, or a job, or any real prospects. I had a criminal record. I was super sick, traumatised and suicidal. I have a history of mental illness including eating disorders. Fast forward to today, I'm in a much better place. I've been clean and sober for 3 years, I do regular therapy and see a dietitian. I have a great career, and my relationships are much better. But. In the process of my recovery, I've gained about 125 pounds. I binge a lot, restrict a bit and overall struggle with food. I am so grateful for my recovery and where I am, but my weight and the eating problem makes me feel suicidal at times. I'm sick of making myself feel so bad in this one area of my life. I'm ready to make a change. I'm getting set up with my gym program and I'm quite excited, plus a regular plan of healthy eating. I'd love to talk to some other people with similar experiences, especially massive weight gain in recovery, binge eating, and significant weight loss whilst taking great care of your mind.

I am soooo close to hitting the 100lb mark.

I’ve been at this weight loss thing for about a year and a half. At first, the weight flew off of me. But in the last 6 months it’s slowed a lot. I was starting to get a bit down on myself over the last few weeks because the scale wasn’t moving as quickly as I’d like. But tonight I decided to take a selfie and was really shocked at the progress I’ve made. This is a reminder for everyone either just starting out, or for those who’ve been at this a while. Take pictures! Look back at your old self (either right now or in a month or two) and see the progress you’ve made!

Also, unrelated - I made a friend! He’s an army guy - super macho and into fitness. I’m a self identifying gay dude who’s not very “alpha” at all. But he offered to help me start lifting weights! I mentioned to him that I was thinking about trying to bulk up a bit now that I’m nearing the end of my weight loss goal, and he (completely unprovoked) offered to help!

This feels so great. I’m getting the confidence to make friends and step out of my comfort zone. Before, when I was nearly 300lbs, I was so ashamed of myself. I never would have had the confidence to do something like this. But now I’m ready to take my fitness goals to the next level.

Sorry. I know this is a bit of a “ramble” post. But it’s been a good day and I really wanted to share. ☺️

Are appetite suppressants a good way to lose weight?

I know a lot of people say that they aren’t, but I know lots of people who have had good experiences with them and achieved lasting weight loss.

I want to try using them because I think they’d be really helpful for the last bit of weight I want to lose (only 15 pounds to my goal weight!) but I don’t know if it’s really a real way to lose weight and keep it off. Does anyone have any experience with this, and can you give me any advice about it?

How to balance calories with protein intake while intermittent fasting?

I've been slowly losing weight over the last 1.5-2 years, around 40 lb now.

This is the longest I've been sustaining weight loss and I credit intermittent fasting as a big part of it. It really aligns with a style of eating I can maintain. I eat around 1500 calories a day.

I've been incorporating exercise like daily 2-3 mile walks over the last 2 years and isometric stretching over the last 6 months.

I have enough mobility now that I'm trying to get into some basic weight lifting. I bought some 50 lb adjustable dumbbells and have been using them consistently for the last month or so and have been seeing good results.

I want to incorporate this into my life in a sustainable way.

I've been watching a lot of videos on weight lifting and have consistently seen many who suggest consuming between .6 g- .8 g of protein per pound of body weight to build muscle.

Even at the low end, for me that would be around 160-175 grams of protein.

I eat 1-2 meals a day. Looking at my food intake for the last few months, I eat between around 60-80 grams of protein per day staying within my 1500 calories.

Even if I can start drinking 2 protein shakes a day and stay within my calories, I'm still only going to be getting around 130 g of protein per day.

Does anyone have advice for me who has been doing something similar? Do I just need to forget about trying to get the suggested amount of protein and do what I can while staying within my calories?

Appetite suppressants vs. Meal replacements… which one should I go with?

So, I am 28/F, and I am wanting to lose some weight. I am 5’4”, and I weigh somewhere between 300-310 lbs. So, not good.

I have found two different bariatric clinics where I am. Neither of them require bariatric surgery, which is what I am trying to avoid, but their programs are a little different from each other.

The first program offers a meal replacement system, where you can either do ONLY meal replacements (5 a day), or you can do 4 meal replacements a day, and one regular meal. They don’t go into much detail about the meal replacements, so I’m not sure if it’s shakes, or like, their own prepared meals, or what.

The second program gives you a diet plan and has you take appetite suppressants + some other medications. The medications include: Phentermine, Phendimetrazine, Diethylpropion, HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin), B12 shots, and you can also “upgrade” your B12 shot and do Lipotropic Injections instead.

Both of these programs offer nutrition counseling and long term maintenance with weight loss.

I’m just not super sure which one to go with, or which one would be the best for me. Of course, I know I will need to include exercise in this as well.

I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience with either or these types of weight loss programs? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
