Hi everyone! I started my own weight loss journey last may (5’4”, 22f, 186.6lbs), and I’ve lost 60lbs since then. However, I must admit that it has been a tough journey, and the hardest part has been trying to keep a good mindset about food and not developing any harmful or disordered eating habits.
My mom recently told me her doctor is having her start weight loss injections and she’s starting them on Monday. She’s already buying a lot of healthy and high protein/fiber foods. I want to be there for her and encourage her since I know this can be a difficult journey to go through, but in the past, she was really into fad dieting and stuff like that. I really don’t want her to do it unsustainably (diabetes runs in our family so I know she’s doing it for health reasons, but still, after seeing her get into specific diets and cutting out whole food groups in the past, plus with my own experience struggling, I am naturally a little concerned), and I want to help encourage and support her the best I can.
Not to undermine her or say that she’s going to turn to unhealthy habits or view her body in a negative way like I’ve dealt with. She’s lived longer than me, she has successfully lost weight before, and everyone will have a different experience. But again, I just worry because I know how society talks about weight loss and I know how difficult and sometimes how much of an isolating process it can be, so I want to be there for her the best I can. If anyone has any tips or advice please let me know!
