Unmotivated but still want to lose weight? Weird unmotivated, lazy phase after seeing results of a three week calorie deficit.

Helloo, so.

I KNOW I talk a lot on these subreddits, but, this is really weird.

Like, recently, I went on a calorie deficit. It was successful for about a week, until I just completely lost motivation.

And it's weird, cause I'll eat a lot and unhealthy but not feel the guilt I should be feeling? Like I just feel unmotivated, like, lazy.

I don't know why, but I just do. It's so weird. Like I want to lose the weight but i just haven't had the motivation I used to have. Dang, i used to write notes and journals about my weight loss, prepare fun healthy meals, and now I'm just, not motivated?

Especially weird because I was seeing results and people were telling me they saw results, too.

Like, I know I can lose the weight, it just feels like I choose not to? Like I'm unmotivated, but I still want to lose the weight.

It's weird, can anyone give me advice? Has anyone gone through the same phase?

Anyone with dentures or partials can share their experience with weight loss and jaw bone loss?

So this post is specifically for dentures, not implants since they preserve bone. Once you have teeth extracted, bone loss begins to occur and will continue (but slowing down over time) until you die. Over time, this can cause your dentures not to fit properly, and you need adjustments as time goes on.

So I have a question that may be difficult to answer because I'm not sure if much research has been done into this and not everyone is in my particular situation. So I've been a fitness buff for most of my adult life and I really enjoy recreational natural bodybuilding. This means that at least once every year or so, I'll go through a cutting phase. During this process, I obviously focus heavily on my diet and workouts in order to make sure I lose as little lean mass, but as much fat as possible. The problem here is that being in a calorie deficit like this causes the body to become very catabolic overall. My major concern here is whether this higher catabolic state can exacerbate the jaw bone loss that already naturally occurs after the extraction of teeth, causing my dentures to become ill-fitting much faster.

I'm worried that when I lose weight it'll be the only thing people around me talk about

I don't know why but the idea of other people commenting about how much weight I lost or how pretty I lookw ithout the weight disgusts me. I pretty much want to lose all the weight without anyone mentioning the fact that I did it. Could be anxiety or just the feeling of being reduced down to nothing more than someone who now looks pretty.

Growing up I lost 60lbs at 15 year old and for months it was the only thing my parents mentioned. They were proud of me, but at the same time I felt reduced to nothing more than my body? Then when I gained the weight back it was back to shaming my body.

I'm not afraid to show off my body after losing the weight because I'm afraid of people trying to sabotage me. I'm afraid of it being the only talking point between people close to me, especially my parents. I mean my mom has been on some diet for the past 8 years and she'll be all over me asking for tips. I dunno I just don't want my weight loss acknowledged.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Is rapid weight loss unhealthy

22 days ago I decided to starting losing some weight to get back to my pre university days. 6’1” M 207lbs 25 yrs, my plan was maybe over 3-6 months I would get down to about 185 or so. Today I’m 190, 17 pounds in less than a month.

The only change I’ve made to my lifestyle is cut out most junk foods or “empty calories”. I’ve been diligent about tracking and average around 2000 cal a day.

I’ve always heard that you shouldn’t lose weight too fast and wanted to get a second opinion. Am I missing something/ should I be worried or is this relatively normal for someone my age?

I am a 5’6 female (23) weighing 145Kgs with health issues that make exercising difficult

I have been overweight all my life but never unfit. I used to be able to walk around 15k steps a day with ease. However last year, I had a ligament tear which left me bed ridden for 5 months. I never got back to walking as I had developed a phobia of hurting myself again. Then I caught Covid which made my health even worse. Now I am pre diabetic and at a point where I need to get my act right if I want to live a comfortable life without any dependancy.

I had never taken initiatives to correct my weight as it never hindered my daily activities. Now I suffer from bad back pain and leg pain. I have gone to the doctor and they said there’s nothing wrong with me and the pain is due to the excess weight which my frame is not built for. I have been lurking here for a bit, I understand calorie deficit and it’s been working for the last two weeks. I have lost 5Kgs since i started. I also want to build stamina and work my core and do some cardio that will help my wholistic health. I don’t just want to lose weight, i want to get fit.

Please recommend exercises etc I can do to start my journey. I can not do anything high impact like jumping due to my legs not having fully recovered due to my lack of walking to strengthen muscles post surgery. I have started walking, can manage about 15 minutes of brisk walking before the pain kicks in. I do see improvement though since I started. I am not as breathless anymore. I want to know what I can do besides walking and dieting to help my body regain its strength and expedite the weight loss process (at a healthy pace of course). All advise is welcome. I want to help myself before it’s too late.

Thank you for your time, sorry if it was a bit all over the place.

The Whoosh Effect is apparently untrue. But does anyone else experience it anyway? 😂

I was reading an article about weight loss last night that rocked my world for a minute. It was one of those cheesy "what to expect when you lose weight" type articles (I know, I need more hobbies lol.) Anyway, one thing in the article really got my attention. It said that you may look worse right before you drop weight. Specifically, it said that you may look saggier and squishier right before you drop weight. It said that the reason is because your fat cells fill with water before they die.

This knocked me back because I have noticed several times over the past several months that I felt that exact thing was happening. I was happy with my progress, feeling like I looked better, and then all the sudden for a few days I would be like "how did I get squishier? I haven't gained weight, why do I look so squishy??" And then a couple of days later it would be fine again and I would have lost more weight and I just chalked it up to just having a bad body image day. So when I saw that, I was like "wait, is that an actual thing that happens and has a real explanation other than my own mental health???"

Welp, apparently not. I read up about it some more today and apparently people call it "the Big Whoosh" and science and dietitians assure us that it's not real. Which, I believe. "Fat cells filling up with water and then dying" is not something I had ever heard of before last night. But I also wonder if there could be something to it (although probably not via the explanation offered about water and fat cells) if there are enough people experiencing something like it to give it a name and make it a myth.

So, am I the only one that experiences this, despite the fact that it doesn't exist?
