One Last Time

F/5’8” SW: 185 LW: 145 CW: 153 GW: 135

Here we go again.

First I want to thank you all. I started losing weight this time last year, and this sub has been an integral part of the process. I lost 40 pounds in 9 months through CICO, and I was incredibly proud of myself. However, due to emotional issues I started binge eating and drinking in March. Since then, I’ve gained 8 pounds. I know it doesn’t sound like a lot. I know I can lose it and then some. I’ve done it before and I can do it again. But I can’t say I’m not overwhelmingly disappointed and angry with myself. I thought I had overcome my issues with food. I’ve come to realize a lot of my self worth came from my weight loss. Gaining really took a toll on my confidence and caused even more mental health issues. It was a vicious cycle. I’m in therapy now, and working on my body image/food issues. It’s helping some, but I still have a lot of work to do.

Today, I promised myself that I’m going to work on my brain and my body. I’m going to commit to my health again. No more eating to cope. No more drinking to cope. I’m going to allow myself to be uncomfortable. I’m going to sit with sadness, loneliness, boredom, whatever it is. I’m going to force myself to sit with those no-so-nice feelings because they won't kill me. Eating and drinking too much, on the other hand, will kill me. I’m going to be kind to my body by improving the way I feed it, move it and talk to it. I’ll get down to my goal weight eventually, but I’m going to love myself in the process.

So here I am. One last health journey. One last time. I refuse to relive these last few months ever again. This time, I’m going to make lasting changes. I’m going to end up stronger than ever - mentally and physically.

Who are some good weight loss/fitness YouTubers?

The YouTuber I have been watching lately is Jordan Shrinks, but I have literally watched every single one of her videos. Now I’m looking for recommendations on other weight loss or fitness YouTubers to watch.

Anyone else find YouTube really motivating? I don’t know anyone in real life who is also losing weight, so watching YouTube makes me feel like I have a “friend” to keep me accountable and knows my struggles.

Side note: today is Day 3, and I have succeeded in waking up at 7am once again! Also, I have stayed with my IF schedule and at my calorie goal as well the past few days! My next weigh-in day is Friday, and I’m not sure if it’s too soon to lose any but I’m excited to check nonetheless.

My worst nightmare

So I guess I need support. I'm trapped and there's nothing else I feel like I can do.

My niece has moved in with my husband and I and though I love her to death, she is a morbidly obese teenager with PCOS and I have been struggling (but succeeding) with my weight loss. I also see how much my husband was an enabler for so long.

She'll be with us for 5 weeks and already almost all the house rules have been broken: Junk food. Juice. Dinner right before bed. And my husband just buys them for her because she has no money and he says "she's on vacation".

I understand that I cannot control everything she eats. She's 16 and I'm not her mom. I work nights so by the time I get up, it's too late. I woke up today to her making an entire box of mac & cheese AND an entire bag of pizza rolls. Both of which were not in my house when I went to bed 8 hours prior which means my husband bought them for her because "she's hungry". Never mind that we have food in the house. It's just "not what she wants". We specifically took her to the store Sunday to get her sandwich makings and other simple groceries (she said she eats this all the time). Before I went to bed she asked about dinner. I told her that you have your sandwich makings, there's oatmeal, you have your leftover orange chicken (our first day, post 5k walk splurge), you have cereal, eggs, etc. You have plenty of food to choose from. I woke up last night to her eating an entire small pepperoni pizza she ordered with the $20 allowance we gave her for the entire week. Basically he's spoiling her and not saying no.

I just don't know how to proceed. Husband and I have NO privacy to discuss things. She doesn't go out on her own. I honestly have no idea where to go from here. And I'm only on day 3. I know I should give it some time but I feel like she'll wear me down before I wear her down. In 2 weeks I have vacation time so it will be easier since we will have the same schedule. But until then, I am at a loss.

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Tuesday, 02 July 2019? Start here!

Today is your Day 1?

Welcome to r/Loseit!

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel awesome and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

Additional resources

Now you’re ready to do this. Here are more details, that may help you refine your plan.

Erectile Dysfunction & Libido Success Stories

Hey all!

I've recently started my weight loss journey. My starting weight was 385 and I'm now 363. I'm happy with my progress but still have issues with libido and erections. I can get them but they don't always stay.

I'm wondering if any guys out there have success stories related to erectile dysfunction or libido increases. I've searched online and couldn't find much.

It's a big issue I face personally and would like something positive to keep me going. I'm also in a relationship with a very understanding woman and would like to hear some good news on this front.

I hope this isn't inappropriate to post. I appreciate any feedback.

half way to my first goal!

f 5’5 207lbs, 22 years old

i am down from 241.8lbs, which means i’m .2 pounds away from having lost 35 pounds :) i’m so anxious to lose the next 35 pounds, though i know it might be slower than the first and i am waiting for that first plateau to hit. 172 is the lowest i’ve weighed in my adult life back in 2017, when i lost 25 pounds the first time. it’s just so exciting to know i have 35 more pounds to lose to get back to that, when i was extremely happy with my body (for some reason! hahaha, i don’t know what i look like skinny so 172 WAS skinny to me). i don’t know what my ultimate goal will be, i imagine something like 150, but we’ll see once that time comes.

i have been doing cico since march 24th, so i’ve been doing this a little over 3 months now. i have calmed down on the cardio, mostly because life has hit me the last three weeks. but even then i have been averaging about 1.5 pounds lost a week. and trust me, i don’t get steps in on the days i don’t work out. i sit at a computer all day and then when i get home i sit some more. i walk 3-4 miles on the treadmill 4 times a week now, instead of 6 days a week. i eat 1200 calories a day. and i don’t eat out more than twice a month. and it happens to be mexican every time lol.

something i am worried about though: loose skin. my tits have obviously lost some fat in this process so they sag more (they were never perky to begin with). but i’m in a committed relationship with the Most Feminist™️ man of all existence so i don’t care. i’m more worried about my stomach having loose skin, selfishly because i love cute clothes and high waisted jeans and crop tops. but we will get there.

i know i don’t post much, but im lurking all the time. thank you guys for being so supportive to not only me, but to each other. i NEVER talk to anyone about my weight loss, because i find it can be annoying to ppl who aren’t doing it themselves. so i come here and see what we all go thru and i feel better. i’d post a before and after but i don’t know how 😂 but thank you loseit! halfway there to my first goal! here we come onederland!
