When other people notice that you've lost weight and then proceed to give you unsolicited and wildly incorrect weight loss advice

SW: 240 CW: 190 GW: 170

I don't know if this is just a me thing but I noticed this trend now that my weight loss has become a bit more noticeable.

I was having a conversation with my neighbor yesterday who commented on my weight loss--he asked me what I was doing to achieve it. I explained it was calorie restriction, eating carb-avoidant/low carb, and that I've been working out almost every day. He then proceeded to go on a huge tirade about how I don't need to be restricting what I eat, that literally the only thing that matters when I'm losing weight is working out, calorie restriction doesn't do anything, etc. He also knows I drink a decent bit of diet soda because I get my groceries delivered to my front door weekly (better than I used to be, down to 2 cans a day from 6 cans a day haha), and he said that me drinking diet soda is the reason I got fat in the first place, I should be drinking full sugar coke if I'm gonna have it at all, etc.

I just smiled and nodded and got out of the convo ASAP, but I realized after that convo that this seems to happen kind of often now? I've had similar conversations with my lifelong thin friends, giving me weight loss advice after I've already lost a significant amount of weight. Like, people who have never been on a weight loss journey giving me unsolicited advice about losing weight after they notice that I've lost weight. First of all, if you've never been on a weight loss journey yourself, why are you commenting on how to do it "right", and second of all, if you literally see that I've noticeably lost 50lbs, have you considered that I don't need your advice because what I'm doing seems to be working pretty darn well???

It's not like super irritating or anything, it's more just funny to me, and I wonder if anyone else has experienced something like this!

I'm Starting My Journey to Losing Weight and Get Healthy Tomorrow - Any tips?

I'm starting my weight loss journey tomorrow. I'm hoping to lose about 30 lbs by December of this year. I need some help, though.

  1. I used to eat 2000+ calories a day. I lessened my calories to 1500 a day a few weeks ago and had no weight loss during those 3 weeks. I thought that being in a deficit from what I was doing would cause some weight loss but it didn't. Is there a reason why?

  2. I used a formula to calculate my TDEE and got 1300 calories a day. A month ago, I went through the kitchen and looked at all of my packaging and then made a list of what a single serving of each item would be in calories. I pre-plan my meals so that I stay within my calorie count. Do you think this a good idea? Is there anything else that I need to do to meet my calorie count?

  3. I don't keep breads or pastas in my house. I'm also not a big sweet eater--if I want something sweet I usually will drink a small glass of Simply Strawberry Lemonade. I don't drink sodas and I may have a small bottle of apple juice once a month or so. Sometimes if I'm hungry, but don't want a full meal, I may eat a small bag of pretzel nuggets (140 calories). Based on this, how should I portion my meals via food groups while still maintaining my 1300 calorie count? I like ceasar salads but I'm usually starving a few hours later.

  4. I plan on working out 4 times a week at 30-40 minute increments. Because of my size, I want to take it easy on my joints so I'm doing walking exercises. Once I get down to a smaller weight, I plan on upping my workout intensity. Is there anything I need to know about exercising?

  5. How do you stay motivated? I'd love to learn different ways to keep myself going during this exciting change in my life.

  6. Any other tips or advice?

Thank you in advance for your help!

How do genetics play a part in weight loss?

, I'm someone that always did struggle with their weight sometimes being interact with sometimes being just fat.

I made a point to eat better and do not be as authority over the past few years and I have seen my body change. The thing is I don't know if my body's changing for the better even though everyone says that I look good.

As I'm now I'm 30 years old with the 36 pants. I don't have a gut, My body is what I would call firm but not hard and the biggest point of contention being my backside. The men and my family are notorious for having huge backsides , Unfortunately it's just genetics I was told because because feeling it it's not jiggly it's firm. It's not flabby it has shape if that means anything.

The last time I weighed myself before exercising I was 186 now I'm currently 220 but I've been too hi've been 200 pounds plus a fact before in this doesn't feel like how it did when it was fat.

Is it possible for genetics to play a part in where muscle forms and how your body works, the only time I've ever been truly "skinny" is when I was in anirexic in high school

How to do 1200 cals a day properly?

I started weight loss back in may since then I've lost 30 lbs through having 1200 calls a day and I really was on the right track. However a month ago I had a fun weekend and took a few cheat days and since then I've been unable to get back into the groove. I always do so well until the end of the day when I start getting super hungry and end up binging like crazy, I went up 6 lbs in the past month. What do I do?

1 month progress

I went to my Rheumatologist on August 31 and weighed 311 pounds. She told me if I didn't lose weight I may not be able to continue on my meds because they raise the same liver enzymes that being overweight does. With my autoimmune problems it's hard for me to do much in the way of excersise so I figured I'd have to lose weight through diet. Having been lurking on this sub for awhile I figured I'd need to count calories. I learned that many of the foods I was eating had an insane amount of calories. Far more than I expected. Cheese, nuts, pretty much anything fried, beer, pretty much gone. I think I will allow myself 1 day a month to have some of these things. So long as my weight loss continues.

I weighed myself at home the day after the doctor without clothes and shoes on and was 307. For reference I'm 45m and 6'1". Using this as a starting point I decided kind of randomly that I would do a 1600 calorie per day diet. I was writing down everything I ate. I learned what foods I can and can't have. My only treat is my morning coffee which I measure out and is 120 calories. If I was over by a few calories for the day that was fine. Like less than 1700. I figured by not having a set in stone limit I might feel better about it. At first it was tough I was hungry all the time. But after a couple weeks I kept finding that I wasn't even eating 1600.

After the first week I figured out there's a calorie app with the same name as this sub an I love it. It makes it so much easier than writing everything in a notebook. I had started out weighing myself daily and at first was amazed at how fast the weight was coming off. Like 10 pounds the first week. I know, water weight. Right? Well I thought that at first too but I just kept losing although by the 2nd and 3rd weeks that had slowed quite a bit. I got to where I decided I didn't want to weigh daily because there's be days I'd lose like 0.4 or 0.2 but then one day I gained back the 0.4. but then the next hay I lost like 3 pounds. I decided I didn't really need that volatility in my numbers so went to a weekly weigh in. So last week was my 4th week of this new diet. I lost 2.6 pounds the last week so I figure that's about where I should be. After 1 month and 1 day I am down 24 pounds to 283.0.

So after just this amount of weight, my fasting blood sugar is back to normal. My blood pressure is down to nearly normal and I have to wear my belt a notch tighter. I'd like to get down to about 200 and my app says that will be July of next year. I'm hoping that as I lose more maybe my health issues will ease up And I'll be able to start getting in a bit of excersise and lose even more. I guess we'll see. Thanks for reading if you got this far.

what did I do with my hands?

One of my biggest setbacks in weight loss has been boredom and bad habits. I want to stop binging and snacking, but it's hard to because that's all my family has really taught me. Every night it was snacks and 5 hours of sofa time.

So I ask you, when your overeating is from idle snacking, what changes do you make to stop? At this point, it feels like I've just been conditioned to sit in front of the tv and snack for five hours a day. How do I stop?

Stuck at skinny fat l after major weight loss. Please help, I’m desperate.

Alright so for some context, I’m M21. I’m 6’1 and I weigh around 88 kgs (194 pounds).

A few years ago, I lost 30 kgs (66 pounds), and since then I maintained the weight loss, but was still feeling like I needed to lose more. I kept finding myself stuck doing cardio, or if I did weights, the paranoia from drinking protein and worrying about gaining weight kept kicking in.

Anyways, long long story short, about 6 months ago I weighed myself for the first time in about 7 months of training body weights and realized I had gained 8-10 kgs. I panicked and reverted back to cardio. Keep in mind, during the time I was training my body didn’t get toned still, which is why it caused me a lot of distress because I was working hard and as a result I only gained weighed with nothing positive coming out of it.

I need help in advising me with what I need to do right now to improve on things, because I’m tired of being unhappy and uncomfortable in my own skin. I want you to be completely honest and tell me the truth. What do I need to do?

I need advise on diet and on working out.

I have access to a gym which has everything from cardio machines to lifting machines. As of now I’ve been focused on cardio the past two months, but nothing changed.

Please help me with this as I’m really desperate.
