Tricks for losing weight and maintaining it?

Im 18 (ftM) 5'8 and 184 lbs. Ive been on testosterone for around 5-ish months now and paired with a recent accident that caused me to have to be sedentary and in and out of the hospital, ive just been putting on pounds. I also have genetically high blood pressure and cholesterol (ever since I was a kid). Just adding to it i have insulin resistance from pcos; just if I needed something else lol

Im looking to get on the lower side of my bmi because it will also help my other comorbidities. (Around 145-150).

I know the main way to lose weight is mostly through diet. Im guessing I should start a deficiency? Im not sure how much since ive never counted calories. Ive already cut out all snacking and only eating at designated meal times.

Im thinking of getting a gym membership. Should I focus on cardio for weight loss? Im totally new to the exercise realm so ill probably do more research into this.

Im just wondering if there are any tips or tricks or even little sayings you all have that help or aid in this journey?
