[Day 1] Starting the journey

Hi everyone! 23F, 5'8", currently 179lbs, hoping to get to 150. I have multiple failed attempts (not a single pound lost) to start a personal weight loss program before, but I noticed that I have stayed at ~180 pounds for the last year. During this time, I have not exercised very much (though I am on my feet for work) and also ate quite a lot of junk food multiple times a week. My current lifestyle does not bode well for weight loss, as I often eat out, sleep late, skip meals often and then binge too much, etc. I am grateful that my weight has not gone over the 180 mark, but I realize I need to change my ways and build new habits.

I am planning to commit to CICO and also upping the calories burned with mild exercise, mostly cardio but maybe I will begin strength training as well. I am thinking about committing to a gym membership as all my previous failed attempts never included paying for a gym to keep myself accountable, so maybe something will be different? Any tips on how to keep myself accountable and shed a few pounds?

People commenting on weight loss

In the last two weeks I’ve had three people comment on my weight loss out of the blue. People I see frequently. It’s weird because the scale has been the same for at least 5-6 weeks and I’ve been feeling frustrated about it. I also haven’t been eating on track every day, which I know is why I haven’t lost any weight. I literally haven’t changed anything I’m doing. I’m actually eating a little more if anything. But suddenly people are noticing? Were they just waiting to see if I’d really keep it off? Lol. Can something about your appearance still be changing if you’ve not actually lost more weight? I think I look exactly the same as before, but I think I’ve got a bit of body dysmorphia so I’m not the best judge of that. Some days I’m like ‘wow I’m way skinnier’ and some days I feel bigger than I’ve ever been. Has any else had this happen? Side note, I feel weirdly uncomfortable when people mention I’ve lost weight. I’m doing this for me, no one else. And it just makes me think about them noticing how fat I was before.

NSV: Got asked about my weight loss!

I still live at home with my parents, but due to me being a fairly private person I didn’t ever tell them about me trying to lose weight.

Yesterday morning, however, I dressed in some jeans and a tighter-fitting shirt that I haven’t worn in a few months. The shirt fits better on me now that I’ve lost about 9.5kg/20lb. My pants are starting to get juuuust a little loose.

When I went into the living room, my mum looked at me and did a double take. She immediately asked “Have you lost weight?!”

Guys, AHHH! People can actually see a difference in how I look! I genuinely haven’t been able to see it myself, probably because I look in the mirror every day. This is the coolest thing.

And now, even better, I’ve started a conversation about weight loss between me and my parents. Both of them are also obese, and express interest in wanting to lose weight but not knowing how. Now they know I can do it completely on my own for four months, hopefully they can find it in themselves to try with me.

Newbie post - greetings!

Hi! I’ve been lurking this sub for a while. I finally got a Reddit account and thought I’d introduce myself!

I’ve been struggling with binge eating for about two years now. However, when I’m in my right mind I’m a total health nut and have been trying to lose weight for slightly longer so I’m at a perfectly “normal” weight (5’7, 145lb, 22F). I’m also one of the smaller people in my family so I would definitely get sideways looks if I talked about working on weight loss much in real life.

I’m currently down 20lb from my high weight and looking to lose a humble 5-10 more, depending how I feel when I get there, as well as banishing my unhealthy relationship with food for good. I’ve enjoyed reading your guys’ posts for inspiration and I’m excited I can interact now. Keep being awesome!

Question: Is my plan to lose weight going to help me?

I'm ready to start my weight loss journey so I can fit into clothes better and not be afraid to have my shirt off when going to the pool with friends, but more than all that — I'm ready to feel better mentally and be more focused to shake off the depressive moods I seem to have alot.
I want to go from 190 to 170 (Male, 5'8") with a plan of doing Intermittent Fasting and CICO.
I've decided on Lose It! for my calorie tracker. When I setup my account, it gave me an allowance of 1,900 Cal/Day to lose 1.5 lbs a week, which I feel like is doable (especially researching the "1500 is enough" mindset). I want to IF from 12pm to 8pm everyday.

I easily get overwhelmed by the amount of diets, workout plans, routines, etc. So I am pretty inspired to follow such a simple plan of action to lose this 20lbs of fat.

Is this a sustainable/good plan of action? Is there anything I should do different? I like to keep life simple so any outlook or advice would be great! Thanks.
