First Post. New here just wanted to say hi and tell you about my journey so far.

Just wanted to say hi as I've recently found this sub. I started my weight loss journey on the 4th of Jan 2021.

SW: 247.2lb. CW: 211.4lb.

I've lost 35.8lb and hoping to keep going! Target is around 150lb however I'm aiming for more of a look/feeling comfortable/confident in my own skin goal that a definitive number. Looking forward to following you all on your journeys and gaining support from people following a similar journey to me. I'm 5'5" (165cm).

I'm a 32f UK mum of 5. Luckily I'm still on maternity leave but due to return to work in May. I'm a chronic yo-yo dieter and emotional eater. I've used MFP to calorie count, joined WW, but in the end I took the plunge and got a VGS in March 2021. I'm hoping that this will help me on my journey! It's been a huge adjustment with the post op diet but I'm healing nicely and definitely getting there!

Fell off the wagon, getting back on. Advice/tips/encouragement welcome

I went from November 11th to about mid/late Feb perfectly fine and dandy on a 1200 daily calorie deficit, intermittent fasting ranging from 16/8, 24h - 48h weekly (had an organized schedule for myself), exercising almost every day despite my full time mom/full time working schedule, and was eating healthier than I ever have in my life ontop of all of this. I lost nearly 20lbs this way, in nearly three months.

In mid January I was transferred to a new location for my job and, long story short, it caused me to have a mental breakdown episode. I have pre existing mental illness problems that I'm normally able to keep under control with no medication, but this job was so mentally and physically taxing, such a toxic horrible degrading environment, that I completely fell off of my weight loss wagon and started eating shit foods, not counting my calories, not fasting, just not caring about any of these things in general whatsoever. I completely fell off of the wagon mid/late February.

I quit my job, which I do not regret. I have something else in the works, and I am much happier now.

However, I have gained back ten pounds, my body doesn't look as good and feels terrible. I am sluggish, mentally and physically drained, overall feeling pretty shitty, friends.

So, started /today/ I am breaking the pattern I've fallen into and embarking on a two day, maybe three day fast. I miss the way it felt, and I know it will probably suck at first having not limited myself for a while now, but I know it needs to be done. I will be maintaining 1200 a day again after this and pushing myself to stick with it like I did before. Wish me luck. <3

Do you ever feel like you are forgetting something, but it's just because there's less of you?

I'm on my 3rd serious weight loss journey of my life, this time it's losing Covid and late post-partum weight (my kid is already 5), and I am down 23 pounds. Each time I lose weight, once I get to about 20 pounds down and beyond, I start to occasionally feel like I am "forgetting something." Like I will be in the car headed down the road and have a mild concern that I am forgetting something. I check and have my purse, keys, wallet, phone, etc. and then realize it's because I am physically taking up less space, and that's what hat is missing. It is probably the strangest thing I have experienced, and happens a few times a week. Does anyone else experience this?

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Tuesday, 06 April 2021? Start here!

Today is your Day 1?

Welcome to r/Loseit!

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel *awesome* and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

Now you’re ready to do this. Here are more details, that may help you refine your plan.

Plateau for every five pounds.

I’m a very petite woman. 5’1 on a good day. I started my journey at 120 pounds. On me, 120 pounds looked like 140. I had a triple chin, stretch marks galore, and a huge belly. Thank you binge eating disorder. eye roll anyway I officially started my weight loss journey at the end of January. I dropped to 109. I keep going from 109 to 111 every few days. It’s been hard to stay on my deficit because I had many family events in March. You know how Latinos are. The food is salty, greasy, and filled with calories. How can i get over this hump and stick to my deficit? I feel best at 100-105. But man, I feel like giving up. I feel like I’m not losing fast enough.

post ED weight loss and advice

i’ve been losing weight like a yoyo since high school. i (23M) lost 50 lbs in like 3 months when i was 18 in a really unhealthy way and have progressively gained it all back to be roughly 205 lbs and 5’5. I don’t want to be “skinny”, but i am thinking about getting help from a weight loss clinic and a personal trainer as well as being a pretty avid meal prepper and gym member. i’ve been told that by eating two meals a day i’m actually making my body retain all of it as fat. does anyone have any advice or tips when i start this journey? i don’t want any of that “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” bullshit. i want to form good habits, not torture myself, and like the way i look.

Accountability partner

I'm 23F, 5'6" and I weigh 236lbs as of about a week ago but I'm probably more now. My heaviest was 258lbs and my lowest was 205lbs.

I want someone I can talk to basically daily about weight loss, fitness, food, just the struggle of it all. I was 215lbs just two months ago and so I need someone to help keep me in check and me with them too.I've been in groups but I feel like you lose that accountability when it's 30 people. I have no one around me irl that gets what I'm going through by trying to lose weight, be healthier or that is around my weight.

I've lost weight previously by counting calories and I think that's what I'm gonna try again. I'm also going to try doing simple at home cardio everyday. While I'm not at my heaviest I am at my largest because of changes in my body composition; I have no muscle at all, it is mostly fat and now I have a belly when I use to not.
