Six months progress, and how to maintain loss at a healthy rate?

I downloaded my calorie counting app on the tenth of August, but it was at night and I just logged what I’d eaten that day to the best of my recollection; technically, I didn’t start actively counting calories until the eleventh, marking today as six months since I started.

https://imgur.com/a/RDyPVOc

I’ve still got a ways to go, twenty-five pounds to my first goal and (if I decide to keep going) another fifty after that to reach what would be considered a healthy weight… but I’m over eighty pounds down, and am pretty happy with my progress so far!

Unfortunately, I’ve struggled to find that perfect balance, and lose weight at a moderate speed. If I take it easy, I’ll sometimes see no movement at all in the scales for extended periods, followed by sudden unexpected drops. If I push even a little bit though, I lose weight way too fast… like, I still maintain my 1500 daily calorie minimum (for reference, my currently budget is about 1700), but eat closer to that line, and go a bit harder working out. The last five days, I decided to try to push it so that I would be at eighty pounds lost in time for the six month mark, but dropped 4.8 pounds, which has now maintained for two days.

I have no idea why my body’s on such a hair trigger, but gallstones don’t sound fun, so I’m doing my best not to lose weight too quickly. Does anyone have any tips for ensuring weight loss at a moderate speed, without stalling or losing several pounds over night? It’s not a huge issue, but it’s been bothering me this entire time.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!

Calorie Counting Education

I just wanted to share this with those who get extremely frustrated with calorie counting. 31 M, 6’4” 289 lb. I started my weight loss journey about about 6 weeks ago. Currently down from 303 to 289.

Calorie counting is so tedious. I use MyFitness Pal to count calories and track weigh ins. Great app. You can scan barcodes on food and automatically load it from a database.

Anyway the main reason I have loved calorie counting isn’t so much the counting. It’s the education. It’s really helped me learn about what foods have a high calorie content and what don’t. What type of portion size result in what calories. I usually meal prep for lunch and then pack little snacks for in the morning and afternoon. All planned to stay within the calorie goal. Lo and behold, a cheese-nut-fruit snack pack I have bought forever is actually a crap load of calories.

I also recommend detail tracking on bad days too. For instance a night out drinking or hungover cheat day. Yes you may go over the goal unfortunately without some discipline, but it can show that for instance switching to a light beer compared to IPAs or mixed drinks, can really help cut down the calories, even on bad days.

It’s also helped me get in the habit of either looking on the menu or google’ing what I’m about to order.

Long story short, even if I don’t track every single calorie or miss a day here and there, just having some good general knowledge of what I eat now helps keep me on track.

Quick Appetizers for Parties People Rave About Skinny Spinach Dip
It seems unlawful to have a party and not pull out the spinach dip. So, here is a Skinny Spinach Dip to make your weight loss dreams come true and keep your guests satisfied. Superfood central, right? Well, it’s true. Kale is a health fanatic favorite for a reason. Addicting is almost an understatement for the combination of chili and soy drenching the fresh shrimp. Everyone will take note of how attractive and fancy these appetizers are, but not a single party-goer will be cognizant of the fact they are eating their vegetables. Mission accomplished.

20. Brussels Sprout Skewers with Mustard Marinade

Quick Appetizers for Parties People Rave About Brussels Sprouts Skewers with Mustard Marinade
You will never hear the phrase, “I hate Brussels sprouts” ever again. Introducing baby, open-faced sandwiches, graced with tender roast beef. If there is anything to celebrate at all, you’ll want a deli delight to appear. All that guilt of scarfing down an entire roast beef sandwich is left at the door as these perfectly portioned hors d’oeuvres allow room for a variety of other appetizer goodies. Main courses are overrated, anyway.

How long is it okay to stay in a deficit?

I'm 157cm (5'2) and 68kg, looking to get down to 55. With my current activity level, online calculators gave me 1.3k calories to have a 500 cal deficit. This roughly checks out with the rate of loss (down from 71).

I don't feel like I'm restricting at all anymore. The first few days it was hard to not grab a bag of chips (I love them), but now about 2 months later I'm fine with just getting a handful and nibbling. I'd even say I prefer it.

My question: is it alright to continue with this amount until I hit my goal? Or should I attempt to maintain at certain points and raise calories? I can't tell what's misinfo or not regarding metabolisms etc

Everywhere online recommends taking breaks around the 12 week mark, but then elaborates that it will make it easier to stick to the limit. I'm not struggling with the limit for now, but I'm worried if it will affect the rate of loss later on.

I'd prefer to stick to the current limit because I like the routine I have now regarding meals and don't want to shake it up. I would like to eventually raise my intake to 1.7k after hitting 55 (which is what the calculators said I could eat at that weight, I'd add more if I needed it).

So tl, dr: is it okay to stay in a ~500cal deficit for 6-8 months; and will this effect my 'metabolism'/rate of weight loss in any way. I do not feel that the deficit is restrictive and am comfortable with the amount of food I eat.

Attraction To People Out Of My League Because Fat? Ugly? Both?

This is probably a really dumb post, but I just feel…annoyed l, and like I need some advice, perspective maybe?? I don’t even know.

I’m not sure if I’m good looking. I’m about to be thirty three and I honestly roll my eyes as I write that because I’m old enough to know that questioning is pretty immature/an unworthy thought/a place of insecurity and shitty self esteem.

The issue is, I’ve been overweight most of my life. So when I was young, boys didn’t really have crushes on me. One once told me they did. Privately. It wasn’t until I was anorexic and bulimic that I got down to a very small size (5) and started to get a lot of sexual attention. I had a lot of boys that were friends, obviously BS because they didn’t stick around when I gained weight lol. I was often called “cute,” never really called hot or pretty or beautiful. Just cute. Sometimes sexy. I got a lot of attention that I really didn’t like. It was overwhelming and some of it was really inappropriate, like from male family members, horrifyingly enough.

Here I am at almost thirty three. I’ve missed a lot of dating because of a bad period in my life where I was chronically I’ll from undiagnosed autoimmune disease. Then the pandemic. But also since I’m overweight again, and obese, I haven’t really dated. Which is pretty much since I’m sixteen and started gaining after starving myself. I haven’t wanted to. I used it as a crutch. I was in a LTR from seventeen to twenty. But he wasn’t nice to me and I felt like maybe I was settling for a person like him because I was fat and insecure. So when I broke up with him I just stopped dating. I’d date when I lost my weight, was happier and healthier. That time never came.

There’s this guy at my local grocer that I think is really cute. He’s overweight, too, and just really good looking. Mask up, at least. And I just realized that his eyes look like Gavin Underwood’s. Lmao. A super hot actor. I feel like I’m always attracted to people who are way out of my league. And maybe that is another way for me to avoid dating. Because I know there’s no chance, I mean I’ve read that’s a thing. But I don’t know. Are they only out of my league because I’m so overweight? And then that makes me feel like shit about myself. Like my whole worth is in my body. I know attraction, physical, is really important. I wouldn’t be attracted to me the way I look now. It just feels like a vicious cycle. Where I feel like a slave to my disgusting body. My imperfect body. My ugly body.

Idk. Maybe this is just a vent, because it sounds so fcking stupid. But I guess I feel super deprived of intimacy lately. Like I’ve starved myself of it because I don’t think I deserve it in this body. And I’m just frustrated. Still working towards weight loss. Obviously really need to work on my self esteem.
