BIG CHANGE REPORT - 150KG+ // Starting today 11/02!

<sorry for english, non-native speaker>

Hello guys!

I'm new here at reddit, I just wanted a place where I could discuss a few things "privately".

I'm starting now this post as a report of my weight loss saga, it will contain photos & videos as well.

Briefing:

  • 27yo
  • ~345lb (156kg) (going to confirm today)
  • 1,83m/72"
  • Use to go the gym seriously in 2010, 10 months
  • Health Issues: Asma and some dark stains at my ankle and neck :(
  • Put on weight 40kg+ in the previously 2 years
  • Extremely compulsive
  • Lack of discipline and resilience are destroying my mind and affecting my performance at work/mybiz

How it's going to work:

  • I'll go on a low carb diet, and I'll cook my own food
  • I'll do a step down on my work, working less and trying to be more efficient (less $ as well, but more time do dedicate to my self)
  • Low intensity fasting aerobic in the mornings (not sure if this is the right way to say it.. aerobic without any food)
  • Workout at night
  • Trying to enjoy more my time doing nice stuff as cooking, reading and other things (trying to recover my mental health as well)
  • Cuting of my time spent on Games/Instagram/Netflix
  • Everyday I'll post a report as how was the day, with pictures
  • I'll keep track of my weight every 7 days

Why this is important to me:

  • Nowadays I'm destroying myself with this way of life.
  • I'm losing the eager of being with people, go out and have a life
  • My mind use to be much more powerful at work
  • I'm not being so creative and hardworker as I use to be
  • I feel that is now or never
  • I'm writing all of this here because for me it is important to have support/people that I can have a conversation... and IRL I'm not feeling confortable to discuss this issue

First Diet:

Probably for the first 2 weeks (it's far from being perfect, but nowadays I'm drinking 2L+ of Coke evereyday..)

  • 6:00am 200ml Coffe
  • 6:20-7:00 Fast Aerobic
  • 7:20 100g Ground Beef + Cucumber/Salad
  • 10:00 100g Ground Beef + Cucumber/Salad
  • 13:00 200g Brown Rice/Whole-Grain *Duno how to say it* + 300g Beef + Cucumber/Salad
  • 16:00 100g Ground Beef + Cucumber/Salad
  • 19:00 100g Brown Rice/Whole-Grain *Duno how to say it* + 200g Chicken + Cucumber/Salad
  • 21:00 Workout
  • 22:00 2 eggs + 200g Chicken

All the measures and weight I'll post later!

Cheers guys!

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Monday, 11 February 2019? Start here!

Today is your Day 1?

Welcome to r/Loseit!

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel awesome and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

Additional resources

Now you’re ready to do this. Here are more details, that may help you refine your plan.

Need help to lose weight, not entirely sure what to do anymore

I'm not entirely sure if this is the right subreddit for this, but I thought I might as well give it a shot. I'm a 20 year old male currently attending university and I need help to lose some weight. I am about 5' 8" in height and clock in at a whopping 195 lbs, most of which consists of stomach fat. A lot of older people in my family are much larger and clock in at over 250 lbs, and I'm trying to prevent that before it gets too late. To give some background, I used to be fit in high school as I was a part of a marching band. I would always be moving in parades and have to do drill exercises which kept me in shape. Now that I'm at university and have a busy schedule, it seems the only active thing I do is walking to and from all my classes.

Currently my goal (and I'm not sure if it's unrealistic) is to shed 30 lbs of my belly fat off, while also building muscle and toning the rest of my body. I've tried looking online for some help, but there's so many different things that claim are "the most effective way to lose weight" but a lot of them really don't seem all that healthy. Right now I'm just looking for some help in the right direction; maybe some dietary habits? At home exercises that I can do? Success stories? Anything really. I just want to get back in shape and need some help from someone to get my foot in the door. Whatever it takes to reach my goal, I am ready to fully dedicate myself on this weight loss journey, and any help would be great.

How can I keep from falling into eating disorder-like behaviors?

I am 18, 5’8 and about 155lbs. Not exactly unhealthy, but in late summer (so 5-6 months) I was at 135 and felt good there. The changes in that time frame that i think sparked my weight change are that i started college (so stress, and probably poor eating habits) and am no longer working farm labor, which was my main form of exercise. I don’t like the way I look or that I feel out of shape, so I’d like to get closer to where I was before!

The problem is that I have a very obsessive personality. I have never had an eating disorder exactly, but I have had bouts of uncontrollable exercise and consumption obsession in the past. Neither of these was enough for me to really consider them ED, but I do think that if I am not careful with my weight loss they could definitely develop into something more, and I don’t think I would be able to recognize or find help for that if it happened!

Tldr I’m nervous to try losing weight because I’m worried my obsessive personality will throw me into an eating disorder. How can I safely have this journey?

Needing encouragement to keep it up

2017 was a huge year for me. I left an incredibly toxic 7.5 year relationship, and had the energy to start taking care of myself after years of just wanting to sleep through life and eat whatever I wanted. From June 2017-October 2017 I lost 54 pounds. (265 to 211) I still think a lot if it was because I wasn't stressed anymore, because while I was eating healthier, I wasn't doing anything drastic. Just watching portions and eating lots of plant based things, etc. Then I plateaued, and started to work out regularly again, but wouldn't budge. Through November 2018, I stayed within the same 5 lb range. In December, I gained 10 pounds, due to changing birth control and holiday food- I think mostly birth control, because I didn't overindulge by much. I changed back to the other one to hopefully prevent more weight gain. I'm still 40 to 50 pounds over my ideal weight, so it isn't just the last couple of pounds. I'm in a new relationship now, and he is just great. Incredibly supportive and kind, and we are very happy. The past 2 weeks, we have been doing IF and sticking to a whole foods diet. We were working out around 3 times per week average, but both were sick and missed our workouts these last 2 weeks until we went to the gym yesterday. I figured since I had watched my calories and been doing IF that it would still be ok. He lost 11 pounds in that 2 weeks. I weighed myself, and I'm down .5 pounds. It felt like I'm being so careful and prepping my meals, and drinking plenty of water, etc, all for nothing. He did great, and I'm glad, but also disappointed I didn't do well, too.

I guess I'm just hoping for some advice or encouragement to help boost my weight loss or to keep me motivated to continue when it feels nothing is working like I thought it would.

Best resources for when you are trying to lose weight?

Hi all! I have been dieting and losing/gaining weight for over 5 years and have successfully kept off 40 pounds. While I was on my weight loss journey most of the resources I read were surrounding different diets or methods (keto and intermittent fasting) or habit building.

What are the best resources you personally have come across to read while losing weight? And what do you wish was out there for you to read? Generally what did you feel like you needed or feel like you need when losing weight?

I personally feel resources don't include the more emotional side of weight loss, or just something to tell you that its okay, and others have been through this before and still found success. I think something like a small story from someone else who struggled with binge eating would help me get through a time when I binge eat, and would empower me and help me keep going. Thoughts?
