Will not being able to exercise for a while because of a bad knee affect my weight loss?

So today I went to the gym and while I could still lift weights fine, I couldn't use the treadmill due to a bad knee. I thought it had gone by now but it came back with a vengeance when I tried to use the treadmill, I had to stop immediately. I must've overexerted myself on there the other week. I can still do the weights just fine and walking is still OK, though a bit painful, but jogging or running is out of the question for the next few days/weeks. However this was pretty much the only exercise I was getting, except for the weights and walking (I have to walk quite a long distance sometimes, but not every day). Is this going to slow/delay my weight loss? I'm also doing it to get fit (I'm pretty unfit right now and can't run much), is this going to be a big deal for that? I'm so annoyed right now.

Did anyone else lose the weight just to end up... not looking that much better? Does it affect your motivation in maintaining?

I'm currently 115lbs (52kgs), 5'6 (167cm), 32F. I've maintained in roughly this ballpark for the last 10 years, after losing approx. 45lbs (20kgs).

One of the biggest reasons I lost the weight (if I'm being perfectly honest with myself, just about the only reason) was to look better. However, I'm a naturally unattractive woman. People talk about their weight loss transformation, and how they started being noticed and treated well by others - no longer invisible, and no longer blatantly excluded. That didn't happen to me. Unlike what feels like everyone else's experiences here, I didn't have a pleasant face hidden under all that baby fat. I'm still the goofy outcast.

I also never stopped being hungry. One of my main loves in life is food, and while I got better at controlling my intake and eating healthier, I was never one of those people who could eat half a sandwich and complain about being sooooo full. Maintenance has always been about denial and self-control; about watching my friends munch away at their fifth pizza slice, while my stomach growls and I tell myself I'm satisfied with two.

I often find myself wondering why I'm depriving myself, if it's not like I'll actually ever look nice enough to fit in. In fact, that's probably one of the main factors that shakes my motivation in maintaining. Sometimes I'll look at that extra taco and just think, well, what's the point in resisting?

I won't lie - it's this mentality that has seen me go through more than a few extra donuts these last couple of days, which is why I suppose I'm posting here. I'm wondering if anyone else has a similar experience?

Anyone else in a more medically complex weight loss situation that just CICO can't help with? How do you deal?

Posting on behalf of my mother with her permission. She's about 300 pounds, 50 years old, and desperately needs to lose weight. She may need a kidney transplant within the next 5 years. She has stage 3 kidney disease. She's a T1 diabetic (NOT type 2. It's an autoimmune disorder and did not come from a poor diet.) She is physically disabled and can not exercise to any meaningful degree, since she broke her ankles years ago and never fully recovered from a botched surgery, among other issues, so she is extremely sedentary whether she likes it or not. She has high cholesterol and triglycerides. She's post-menopausal. (Shit, even that alone almost killed her, but that's a story for another day.)

Kidney disease means low protein. High cholesterol means low fat. Diabetes means low carb. Low sodium. Low potassium. Low fluids. All of the advice contacts each other. She can't win.

She's seen multiple nutritionists over the years (dieticians? They came recommended by her doctors, so they weren't some rando). None of them have ever known what it's like to be a T1 diabetic or seemed to have any idea how to help her lose weight. The things they've told us are absurd. Things that sound good on paper but would never work in real life. Frankly, we've never met any medical professional that can manage her diabetes. Every hospital stay, her blood sugar is all over the place.

Everything is so complicated. We're so overwhelmed. I lost 60 pounds just counting my calories, and nothing I did has worked for her.

We're fighting for her life at this point, and we're getting extremely frustrated. I know we can't be alone though. There has to be others on this sub who have these kinds of extensive health issues making it difficult to lose weight.

What was your petty reason for losing weight? Did it affect your success?

Has anyone started a successful weight loss journey based off petty reasons?

So background story, my husband (M33) and I (F29) have unfortunately gained a decent amount of each over the past few years- myself in particular. My partner is sitting at roughly 10-15kg overweight and myself 30-35kgs. It hasn’t been a steady gain though, we’ve had our ups and downs.

In 2017 we both successfully lost a decent amount of weight and were feeling fantastic. Unfortunately due to mental health, financial stress and another baby the scales have gone up significantly.

The other week we were at my FIL’s house helping clear out his shed when he made some comments about us losing weight. Neither of us have lost weight and I’m normally not the type of person to outwardly discuss my body.

My FIL then felt it appropriate to say a family member on my husbands side had come up to him at Christmas and guessed how much weight we’d gained individually. Followed up by wanting to know if the guesses were correct. I was shocked but I could tell my husband was feeling very offended and didn’t want an argument. So I responded with “yep that’s about right, 10kg for each kid I’ve given birth to” and tried to change the subject.

Now we aren’t very close to my FIL for other reasons or his side of the family so we’ve only seen extended family from his dads side 3-4 times in the past 10 years. I was shocked that a) they’d feel it appropriate to discuss our bodies and b) his father didn’t realise how rude it was to reveal that.

Now I’m feeling extra determined to meet my weight loss goals so when we see his family next I can say “thanks for the compliments but I’ve got far more interesting achievements going on in my life than how my body looks.”

NSV (I can crouch down again, yay!) and question about baker's cyst

Hello y'all! I've been loosing weight since may last year. In total I lost 27kgs and counting. Last week, I did something I hadn't done in over a year without pain, I crouched down to look for something in my bag. You can't believe how surprised and happy I was for this new found mobility. I was diagnosed with a baker's cyst about a year ago at my highest weight. My doctor also told me that my knees were irritated and inflamed with higher than usual for my age (f26) wear on the joint. He said that i would have to get it punctured. Now from my research it doesn't seem like baker's cysts are usually cured by weight loss, though I think it makes sense for them to get better with weight loss, because there is less stress on the joint. Has anyone of you guys had a similar experience? Maybe it wasn't even the cyst that was hindering my mobility but the fat on the back of my legs. Anyways, I am very happy to not have to get surgery:)

Weight Loss Calculator

I'm finding excuse after excuse not to lose weight.

Is there some kind of calculator that I can put in my height, weight, age and all that stuff to see if I eat X amount of calories per day I can lose X amount of weight in a week or in a month or whatever the case may be? I know it wouldn't be 100% correct but I need something visual or something to see the progress I can make. I'm all wrapped up in my own head.

Need some advice from the ladies on here!

Hello! Okay so I don’t mean to single out only the ladies but I’ve been learning more about hormonal belly fat etc. So I’m trying to figure out if the reason for my weight gain could potentially be hormonal belly fat or not! I’ve been introducing a calorie deficit into my daily routine and I don’t know if I have really seen any progress which is disheartening. I also read that a caloric deficit can cause hormonal imbalances but I’m on hormonal birth control so would that balance it out? I’m not sure the best way to go about fat/weight loss! I really want to lose like 20 pounds or so but even when I was skinnier I realized I still had that “hanging low belly” look so is that hormonal or not? If someone has conquered both please give me some advice I need it!
