What was the turning point that finally made weight loss click for you?

I've been trying to lose weight on and off for years, and I feel like I'm stuck in the same cycle: motivated for a few weeks, then slowly falling back into old habits.

I know the basics eat less, move more, stay consistent but actually sticking with it long enough to see meaningful results has been the hardest part. It seems like some people eventually reach a point where something just "clicks" and they never look back.

Recently, I've been reading about different approaches to accountability and support systems.

For those who have lost a significant amount of weight, what was your turning point?
Was there a specific habit, mindset shift, or moment that changed everything for you?

Question About What I Should Consider An Accurate Weight Measurement

Hello, when I weigh myself it is in the morning, after having used the bathroom and before breakfast. The last time I did that was this morning and I weighed 174.6 pounds. When I started my weight loss journey I was at 400 pounds, and my goal is 150 pounds, so the end is in sight at last.

I had a doctors appointment today as well, and they used a bathroom scale instead of one of the big ones you step onto. Wearing clothes and shoes, my weight came to 184. I asked how much of a difference clothes usually makes with these and the response I got was 5 pounds, meaning that the weight from my doctors visit would be 179.

When I came home, I stepped onto the scale and found myself at 181.3, which after subtracting the five would come to 176.3. After breakfast and the water I've had today it wasn't a surprise I had gained some weight.

So, that leaves 2.7 pound difference between the two scales. Is that within a margin of error? Or is that a large enough difference that one figure is true? In the grand scheme of things it's not a lot, especially considering how much I've lost. However, I just would like some opinions that way I know whether I should believe the number I see when I weigh myself, or add a few pounds to it.

Thank you, I hope you're all doing well, and keep at it!

Today im officially down 80lbs.

Starting weight 310lbs Dec 5th 2025, current weight 230lbs July 27th 2026. Down 80lbs as a 21 year old 5’8 man in 8 months. For my routine and diet im eating 1600 calories daily, drinking a little over a gallon of water daily, i walk 10k steps most days.

Every month im getting closer and closer to my goal, i thought I would be happier about all the weight im losing but i really don’t feel anything at all not happy or sad. My end goal is to weigh 140-150lbs, I still have a long way to go. Another goal of mine is to finish this year under 200lbs.

The hardest part of weight loss for me personally was starting. Starting is the hardest but once you’ve stacked months and days, that’s all the motivation I need now, the motivation I need to keep going is all the days and months I’ve already put in. I will never do that to myself again I will never gain this weight back again.

How to get back on track + deal with calories during going out dinners?

I've lost 14 kg (about 31 lbs), going from 109 kg (240 lbs) to 95 kg (209 lbs), but I've been stuck at this weight for about six months now. During that time I've had periods where I gained a few kilos because of vacations or going out for dinner more often, but I've always managed to lose that weight again.

The weight loss happened over the course of 2,5 years, and I was happy with the slow but steady progress. After so many failed attempts in the past, I'm really proud that I've managed to keep the weight off for this long. Still, this plateau is starting to get frustrating.

I think there are two main reasons why I'm stuck:

  • I've found it difficult to get back into tracking everything I eat. Part of the problem is that I often have days where I already know tracking won't be realistic because I have dinner plans or some other social event. That makes it harder to stay consistent.
  • A few years ago I lost touch with a lot of my friends, so I made a conscious effort to build a new social circle. I'm really happy that I did, and I now have a much more active social life. The downside is that seeing friends often revolves around eating out, grabbing drinks, or other food-related activities. I rarely drink alcohol anymore, so that's not the issue. The harder part is choosing the healthier option when everyone else is ordering whatever they want. It also doesn't help that restaurants where I live don't list calories on their menus.

Ironically, having very few friends made losing weight much easier because I wasn't constantly surrounded by tempting food or social meals.

Has anyone else dealt with this? How do you balance an active social life with continuing to lose weight? I'd really appreciate any advice.

Is constant diarrhea… normal?

Sorry for the TMI! I have started my weight loss journey in May and that’s around the time I’ve had consistent diarrhea. Every now and then I’d have a normal stool.

I was on vacation for a few weeks out of the country and wasn’t dieting. Surprisingly, I had completely normal stools no diarrhea no constipation. I got back on Tuesday and started back on my diet. It was normal Tuesday then Wednesday I started having diarrhea again and very liquidy. Again so sorry for the TMI.

I used to never have issues with diarrhea if anything I would have issues with constipation and poop once every couple days. Now it’s 1-2x a day and diarrhea. My diet hasn’t changed too much, I’ve just been more intentional with tracking calories and maintaining a deficit. Is this normal? Does it regulate after a while? Is there any supplement I can take to fix it?

Am I consuming too much fat for a healthy diet or is my calorie tracking app just recommending a small amount?

I (female, in my early twenties, if that matters) use the calorie tracking app Yazio for my weight loss journey and it worked great so far. I manage to stay in my deficit most day and have no issues with weight loss. The macro nutrient I cut out the most are carbs, I still eat them however just less of them.

What I noticed however is that Yazio recommends eating only 47 gramms of fat a day, if I had a lot more movement that number goes up because my total energy expenditure goes up as well. So on an average day I can have about 55 gramms of fat. Usually I consume about 70 gramms. My total calories for a day like that would be 1600.

While I try to eat mostly healthy fats, like olive oil or fatty fish, I also eat about a serving of butter a day and regularly eat cheese (mostly mozarella, feta or halloumi)

Am I consuming too much fat for a healthy diet or is Yazio just recommending a smaller amount in order for people to stay in a deficit more easily?

I am planning to get some bloodwork done for a number of reasons and that will probably tell me, but i just wanted ask on here anyways since the appointment is a couple weeks away.

What are some calorie dense foods people aren’t aware of? And alternatively, what are some foods with very little calories?

I recently made a post here after I discovered how calorie dense granola was. I know nuts and peanut butter are pretty calorie dense too, but what are some other foods that are similarly calorie dense? Also want to know what are some surprising foods that are low in calories that one wouldn’t expect, but are also really filling. I’m currently on a weight loss and everyday I just realize how important weighing my food is lol due to the calorie density of some of these foods. I’ve been eating a lot of chicken, bell peppers, swapped rice for potatoes, and consuming a lot of Greek yoghurt. Loads of fruits as well!
