Calories: 1800/day
So, I am relatively new to structured exercise. I have at various times in my life had a very active lifestyle (farming, horses, retail worker getting a million steps in carrying heavy shit) but this is my first time really going to a gym to workout.
I’ve lost significant amounts of weight 2 times in my life. The first time was when I was 25, I went from 210 to 180 doing keto and counting calories, but not really exercising. The second time I went from 180 to 160 not counting calories but getting about 15,000 steps a day and unloading hay bales (100lbs) and feed sacks (50lbs) while taking those steps.
My weight loss during both of these times was very steady. I lost between 1-3lbs a week on average and it was very linear.
Now I am trying to lose weight through CICO and I am exercising. About 30 minutes of cardio tracking my heart rate and 20 minutes of weight training daily with a day off every so often. Between daily activity steps and my workouts I’m getting between 8,000-12,000 steps a day.
I feel better, stronger/healthier, but so far I haven’t seen my scale or tape (I take measurements too) move more than a few lbs. It’s sort of fluctuating up and down, and I’m hoping maybe I’m building muscle while losing fat so maybe my weight and proportions are staying the same ish? Is it wishful thinking to hope that soon my (theoretically) increased muscle mass will start using more calories and I’ll start seeing a difference in the scale and tape? Do I need to change something?
