Proud of myself

So I technically started my weight loss journey about a year ago with weight watchers. It was great at first, I dropped 20 pounds. Then I started plateauing and decided I needed to change things up. So I decided to start calorie counting. Since starting CICO on October 15th 2019 I've lost 21 pounds! In a little over 3 months! I've lost a total of 41 pounds going from 205 pounds down to 163.4! I'm 22 years old that's the lowest I think I've been since being a child. My goal is 122 (which might change but for now seems attainable) and I'm already halfway there! I'm so proud of myself and the closer I get to my goal the more excited I feel. This summer I'll feel so much better in my body, even though I won't quite be at my goal for most of it I'll be pretty close. Just wanted to share my progress!

Weight loss as a couple (25F/25M), and efficiency versus "What I'll actually do"

My (25F) boyfriend (25M) and I are in the middle of a relationship conflict over the strategies I'm using to lose weight.

He's very knowledgeable about fitness and weight loss, and I'm very much a fitness newb. I'm 170lbs/5'8".

So here's the issue, I hate lifting weights. I've been going a few times a week with him for a couple of weeks, doing a fitness plan he plans out for me, and I count every minute, waiting for the minute we can go home. And when I told him I didn't want to do that anymore, and that I want to stick to what I like doing, he said I was uninformed on fitness and I'm essentially wasting my time, and that I'll just plateau (which admittedly is a problem I've been having lately as well).

However I've already lost 20lbs by running on the treadmill and counting calories.

I feel like I can run/jog forever. And I fiercely enjoy racket sports, something I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to get him into as well. But that's not lifting weights, so it's wrong.

Does anyone here have any success stories on a strategy like mine that I can share with him to prove that lifting weights isn't the only way to be fit? Or is he right, and I'm essentially wasting my time?

Thank you in advance!

Can someone please explain this math to me?

So I'm on a long slow weight loss journey. For the moment I'm just working on tracking everything I eat and putting it into MFP, with a goal of 1lb per week lost. Anyway, I have my daily calorie goal set to 2500. I also have a fitbit which sends adjustments to MFP depending on my activity level. Yeah yeah, I know it's not super accurate. That's not what this question is about.

I just checked MFP from yesterday. It shows my static calories of 2500 + adjustment of 823 calories based on exercise. Basically, this means MFP thinks I burned 2500+823+500 = 3823 calories yesterday, based on 1lb per week weight loss goal. But then I check my Fitbit app and I shows I only burned 3472 calories yesterday. So, what the hell is going on here? Where is MFP getting this adjustment number from? It doesn't make any sense, from a math perspective.

Treat days

Hi, I'm currently on my weight loss journey, started about 2/3 weeks go. My starting weight 232 lbs at 5 ft 2. I'm following something called "our path" (I'm in the UK) and so far I've lost 10lbs. I need structure to lose weight successfully and our path is a great way to lower carb intake and stop eating processed food and sugars etc, it includes eating lots of veggies and pulses etc and a small amount of complex carbs.

I said to myself once a month on payday I'm going to have a treat and eat a take away. I did this last night and stepped on the scales this morning, expecting a 1 or 2 lbs gain. 5 LBS GAIN!! I'm so so upset and angry at myself. Is this normal? I ate some fries and some Chinese food but no where near the amount as what I would've before I started to diet.

I don't know where to go from here. I'm going to go swimming today and follow my plan but I'm going to Berlin for 5 nights this week to visit my friend and now feel like I don't want to go. I have been looking into intermittent fasting and I'm thinking of incorporating this into my diet. It feels like as soon as I've even had a sniff of carbs Ive gained 5lbs. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks guys.

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Sunday, 26 January 2020? Start here!

Today is your Day 1?

Welcome to r/Loseit!

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel awesome and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

Additional resources

Now you’re ready to do this. Here are more details, that may help you refine your plan.

From 350 to 250 - Proud of myself for the first time

Hey guys! Just wanted to share my weight loss with y'all since you all have been a constant motivation for me as I've lurked throughout my journey so far, and will continue to as I keep trekking on.

Depression is something I have struggled with my entire life - on the outside I am someone that is always cracking jokes, always smiling, and just trying to make the people around me laugh. What people don't see are the inner demons and battles you face every single day and the inner turmoil that you can't seem to escape. Everyone tends to handle depression in their own way, my way was through humor, food, and binge eating - I literally ate my feelings away. This has caused me to fluctuate weight like crazy throughout my life - I would lose weight when my mental state was doing better than usual but gaining the weight all back plus some when the depression would inevitably knock me back down. Towards the middle of 2017 my depression hit a point that it had never gotten to before and I was binge eating more than ever and gained an enormous amount of weight. By the end of 2017 I was at 350 pounds, my absolute heaviest.

It has been a constant battle since the day I stepped on that scale and saw 350 but I am fortunate and happy to say that today I am currently 250 pounds and a lot happier than I have been in a very long time. I still have a long ways to go but I am proud of the effort I've put in and proud of where I am at currently. I definitely have had struggles along the way of losing these 100 pounds and I am certain I will have more, but I am taking it day by day and always aiming to look at the positive.

I have realized depression is something that I do not need to be afraid to talk about nor something I need to be ashamed of. I could NOT and would NOT be here without the support of my amazing family, friends, and this community. So if anyone ever needs to talk about anything, feel free to send me a DM and I will be glad to talk to you.

My weight loss journey -20kg/45lbs

Hello everyone! 🤩

This post is about how I lost 20kg/45lbs since I started taking fitness and diet seriously.

Stats:

Time period : 6 months Training type : Calisthenics+Cardio

Cardio : Running, Swimming, Cycling, Box

Starting weight 114kg Current weight 94kg Height 1.89m

Training schedule:

Calisthenics 4-5 Times a week Cardio 3-5 times a week

Progress I Made:

Dips from 9 to 29 Pull-ups from 6 to 19 (form in 19 is even better) One arm dead hang 10 seconds to 35 L-sit from 3 seconds to 20

Moves that I mastered:

  1. Archer push-ups 2. Archer pull ups 3. L-sit 4. One arm push-ups (not perfect form)

My diet - consisted no added sugar, no soda, no bread, no fast food. I eat mostly healthy carbs with some good fats and a lot of protein. Also having no bad habits is optimal I do not smoke and seldom drink. I have a decent sleep schedule so that definitely helps!

I made I compilation video of my body transformation! Last time I posted my progress I've received good feedback and a lot of comments of support which encouraged me to train even harder! So I decided to share my passion and progress with you guys so hopefully someone gets motivated/inspired if right now you don't feel like putting in the work 📷.

I'm not going to post any links if you want to check my progress out type ElvisLifts on youtube and you will find me.

In my opinion the most important thing is being consistent and just do the work not all workouts will be great some days weather sucks or whatever excuse it may be but you have to keep the ball moving in the right direction there are only two options moving forward or going backwards.
