I am a 5ft 9, 226 lb, 26 y/o male who is currently two months into my latest weight loss attempt following a 1700 cal diet of at least 50g fat and 150g protein while also walking 10,000 steps per day and doing 30 min HIIT workouts three days per week.
In two months, I am only down 2 pounds from my 228-starting point. I have tried losing weight many times before and have only ever had success doing a low carb diet with minimal exercise where I was able to get down to 204.
I have noticed whenever I do any sort of strength training while also eating carbs I almost immediately gain weight. My muscles swell up and I feel very bloated but strong until I stop lifting again.
I am at a loss for what is going on. I am working with a fitness coach who believes I am either not counting calories correctly or I may have a medical issue based on how slow the scale is moving. I am 100% certain I am logging calories accurately using a food scale. Do I have a medical issue or am I genetically intolerant to carbs? My father who has a similar build to me carries a good amount of fat despite working a very active job while eating a decently healthy diet that contains a lot of carbs.
When I look at myself in the mirror, I feel that I have gained muscle and possibly lost some fat and overall, I feel stronger but my slow weight loss and the overall bloatedness that I am feeling has me concerned.
Is it possible that I am rapidly gaining muscle at the same rate that I am losing fat or is something wrong with me?
