I'm a few months in to a successful weight loss attempt. There's been a couple speedbumps, but for the first time those speedbumps haven't derailed me, so it looks like this attempt is gonna be 'the one' where I finally lose all the weight.
A big thing that has been different about this attempt compared to the previous ones has been the ways I've been changing my mindset. Not my mindset about the weight loss specifically, but rather my mindset about food generally. One thing that's become striking to me is how absurdly large most restaurant portions are here in the States. My definition of a regular 'portion' has changed. When I do eat out it's usually à la carte items at chains. For example, I'll get a little breakfast sandwich from Starbucks, a bean burrito from Taco Bell, etc.
The past few weeks my boyfriend has gotten into watching videos about making Italian food. It's made me wonder: how the hell do Italians not get incredibly fat from eating tons of pasta? It's also made me really want pasta. So, tonight, I had pasta. First time in months.
I measured out a single serving of dry pasta. Exactly one serving. Cooked it. Added exactly one serving of sauce. Weighed a little chunk of parmesan and grated it onto the pasta. The pasta, sauce, and cheese totaled 371 calories. The heft of it, the volume it took up in the bowl, how filling it was... exactly what I expected based on my new understanding of 'a portion.' It wasn't enough for an entire dinner, but should pasta be an entire dinner? Probably not, right? Some salad and a piece of fruit and you're golden.
So yeah! My mind is kinda blown here!
