It's been about a year since I became conscious of my fat weighing at 62 kg/136 pounds. I'm 5ft 4 so technically I was healthy but you know, I could clearly see that I had 'extra' fat specifically around my lower stomach and face.
I started going to the gym where I did some cardio and weight training but I only lost about 4 kg/9 pounds doing that over around 6 months. I guess I stopped thinking about my diet other than the fact that I needed more protein than carbs and eventually got off track.
Now that I can't go to the gym due to lockdown I've been diligently counting my calories at a 200~300 calorie deficit instead, paired with some bodyweight exercises honestly only when I feel like it (mainly planks, squats, push-ups, that kind) - I've lost 3 kg/6 pounds in 40 days and wow, I'm just shocked at how fast I'm seeing results with this method without starving myself. I used to have fasting habits which I think in hindsight were borderline ED-like, so it's really cathartic.
Some extra things that I think helped -
I also had some time to do research and figured out that I had a posture problem where my hips were facing forwards a little too much, which causes strain on the back and loosens my ab muscles, causing my initial problem which was the lower stomach area. I've started to fix this habit and I feel like it's given me more abs than weight training ever gave me lol! (Although of course, the weight loss probably has to do with its visibility too)
Oh, and taking time to eat food, specifically chewing and chewing until you feel you've chewed too much before gulping food down helps so much. Actually I think food tastes better this way too and ends up more filling. I think I owe much of my progress to this method alone, honestly.
I'm hoping to get near 50 kg during lockdown (as I'm assuming I'll gain weight after it ends due to lifestyle stressors - less time to prepare healthy food and more temptations etc) and when the gyms open back up, gain a bit more in muscle.
