Drinking water for weight loss

It seems one of the most commonly spouted pieces of advice is to drink loads of water.

The recommended amount if I’m not mistakes is about 2.5 litres a day of water. Before actively trying to lose weight I was probably doing 0.5L water. 1.0L coffee/tea and 0.5-1.0L of fizzy drinks. Since then I have a cup of coffee in the morning and about 3L of water a day. I have a 500ml reusable bottle and I get through about 6 a day. However I’ve noticed I’m always feeling, over hydrated for lack of a better word. Peeing a lot more, pee is clear, bloated. It doesn’t bother me necessarily, I’m just wondering if I need to be cutting back on water intake.

When people say drink loads of water, do they really mean drink loads or just drink the dai;y intake amount of exclusively water? Is drinking too much bad for you?
