They said WHAT?!

The weight loss comments section....IRL.

I notice there are three categories of commenters IRL about your weight loss - strangers, acquaintances/buddies, and people closest to you. And their comments are really on different levels.

Strangers who see me workout are very complimentary. Wow, how do you do that?! You're amazing!

Acquaintances/buddies, are like, eyeballing you up and down up and down up and down. They're staring at your plate at potlucks (you can almost see them doing math in their head), getting mad at you because their man looked at you, or doing weird behavior that makes you question how chaste they want your relationship to be.

People who are closest to you seem a lot more illogical.

1) The person said, "you need to exercise every day."
"I DO exercise every day. I'm working really hard to lose weight." "Like I said, you need to exercise EVERY day."

For MONTHS after I lost a lot of weight, that person said "...…." Crickets. After being confronted with side by side before and after pics, "you've always been beautiful." THEY SAID WHAT?!

After I started to have visible muscles, the exercise comments started back up.

"You need to stop exercising every day." "Weren't you the one who said I should exercise every day?" "Yeah, but it's different now. You can see it. It's different now." THEY SAID WHAT?!

2) Next person. They rarely spoke about my weight, but when they did, they'd cut really deep on purpose. After I lost weight, I'd get told how beautiful I was when they were inebriated. When sober, was told "I don't understand why you think you need to go to the gym so much." "I'm trying to lose weight." "But you've already lost weight!" Later, "You need to stop going to your gym and go to Planet Fitness." "Planet Fitness doesn't allow you to go as hard as I do at my gym." Later, "You need to go to CrossFit. Maybe you'd be in better shape if you were doing that than WHATEVER YOU'RE DOING at your gym." THEY SAID WHAT?!

3) Next person was actually the trippiest. I hadn't seen them in a long time, so I sent photos, before and after pics and some pics of the exercises I do (on the higher end fitness wise). They said, "...…." Crickets. A YEAR later (and several conversations where they didn't bring it up at all), still not having seen each other in person, they say, "have you gained back the weight you lost?" "Why would I do that?" "It happens to a lot of people." THEY SAID WHAT?!

4) I told the person in example 1) about what 3) said. They laughed. I asked why. THEY SAID "That's because they know that people start gaining weight AT YOUR AGE. You're AT THAT AGE. It's normal at YOUR AGE."

What?
