I am trying to drop about 50 lbs before June 23rd before a scheduled hike in the mountains of Northern New Mexico with my Scout troop and doing many of the same things I did before when we attended in 2017, but for about a week now I am plateauing, and I don't know why.
2016-2017 Weight loss:
Food: Back then I counted calories religiously using MyFitnessPal. I drank protein shakes almost every day until about 4-5 months prior when I mixed in cereal on days I would do cardio workouts. For 4 days of the week, I would eat spinach salads (which I absolutely despise and vowed not to do again) and every Tuesday would eat at the local taco joint in town for taco Tuesdays (two softshells). Dinner would generally be what my wife made but with portion control and counting calories. Weekends were other meals, like omelets/scrambled eggs for breakfast and sometimes would skip lunch on Sundays, opting for maybe peanuts as a snack. If I had a snack in the evenings, it would be air popped popcorn with spray butter and white cheddar seasoning. I usually drank water. I maintained around 1100-1200 calories consumed a day.
Fitness: M, W, and F were weightlifting days with dumbbells, lunges and some machines like abs/back extensions. Legs included leg presses, extensions, curls, calf machine. Alternating upper/lower days, every other session. T, Th, Sat were cardio and always elliptical trainer. I religiously did weightlifting up until 3 months out and then switched to cardio only which I later learned from my doctor was a mistake.
For sleep I got about 7-7.5 hours. I lost 70lbs in 10 months.
Weekly Weight loss: 1.5-2 lbs. a week.
After I returned, I gained about 100lbs due to depression and a pair of foot surgeries. Since the summer I have lost about 50lbs and am sitting at 304 this am as of my weigh in. Last week I weighed in at 298.7.
2020-2021 Weight loss:
Food: Following Weight Watchers and logging everything. Food is now diverse. Breakfast consists of either Jimmy Dean Egg'whichs, Kodiak protein pancakes/waffles with sugar free syrup, turkey sausage links or turkey sausage patties, cereal (on cardio days), and egg and turkey sausage wraps, all depending on the day and obviously mixed up. Lunch is almost always Morning Star vegetarian foods: chicken patties with wheat buns, chicken nuggets, pizza bites, maybe something leftover from the night but always logged. Dinner is the same as before. Counting portions. Last night for example, my wife cooked these large turkey legs so had one and a maybe 1/2 cup mashed potatoes and gravy and 1/4 cup corn. Glass of milk. I drink more water this go around. cup of Coffee every am with a small amount of sugar free creamer. Always staying under total allotted for the day.
Fitness: Same as before except I haven't incorporated many leg exercises in. For Cardio I switched from 30 min of elliptical to 10 min of elliptical and 20 min of walking on treadmill at 5-12.5% incline with a 30lb pack on to almost mimic mountain ascending.
Sleep: suffering here. 6-6.5 hours a night generally. Sometimes I get a nap in during we week or on the weekend.
Weekly Weight loss: Prior to Thanksgiving: 2-3 lbs. a week.
I am wondering if the lack of sleep is causing me to not lose anything right now. It's been this way for several months though, even as I was losing that first 50 lbs. The reason for the lack of it is I find myself more productive when the family is in bed. Also, I haven't snacked in the evenings except for air popped popcorn maybe once a week. I do have some hunger pains, so I drink water to help curb them. I also know about water weight, but I mean, I should be losing at least something once in a week's time.
The best guesses I have are lack of sleep and drinking water in the evening but surely, I should see something dropping at least once in a week's time?
