Week 3 update:

I’ve been restricting my calorie intake for about 3 weeks now. i am eating way less than i used to (1200 calories) but so far it has been surprisingly easy! i live a moderately sedentary lifestyle, and at first my reduced calorie intake had me feeling sluggish and tired. then after a few days i went grocery shopping and bought a ton of low calorie food like yogurt, deli meat, whole wheat bread, eggs, fruit, etc, and the issue of tiredness disappeared as i increased my fat and protein intake. i choose my macros pretty intuitively but stick to my calorie limit every day. it sounds kind of crazy, but i feel way better now that i’m restricting than when i was eating whatever i want. i think processed carbs and sugars make me feel gross and tired, so having less of those due to their high calorie content has been awesome.

the first “big” problem i ran into was weight fluctuations. the first 10 days or so I was losing weight consistently, bit by bit each day. Then I got sick and lost a bunch of water weight (tmi) and felt pretty discouraged to see the number go from a low point back up to where it had ben before, even though i knew it was illogical.

i have also been doing exercises to strengthen my abs, arms, and legs, and was really disappointed after a day of working particularly hard to see that I weighed more than the previous day. After that, I continued exercising moderately and getting the right amount of calories every day, but my weight seemed to be going up and down over a range of about 3 lbs. I was feeling sad and frustrated and then i looked up why that might be happening (on this sub!) and found out that building muscle can cause small increases in body weight, and that fluctuating is completely normal.

I downloaded happy scale after reading people recommend it on this sub and was really relieved to see that my weight fluctuations still showed a consistent downward trend. Today, I have just experienced a “woosh” and I woke up finally down to the weight that I had dropped to when i was sick, except this time it’s legit! i’m so happy i found this sub, hearing people’s experiences is so motivating and so many of you are so knowledgeable and helpful. :))

so far, i’ve lost like 7 lbs, and i am aiming to get down 22 more to be in a healthy place in the bmi range. i started off a few lbs overweight, and even though i havent lost much, i’m excited because i am so much more motivated and prepared to lose weight than other times where i’ve half-assed it. i also feel better physically than other times i have tried losing weight, which i think is because i’m eating better foods rather than just less of the same processed junk, and because i’m doing exercise.

i’ve been doing ab exercises and was hoping weight loss + toning exercises would take some fat off my waist. i havent seen a big difference in the circumference of my waist (~.4 inches, if any), but i think that i look better. i’m not sure if its my positive mindset or a real physical change, so is it possible to have the same waist size but somehow also look more fit?

so far the biggest difference ive seen is to my boobs which im THRILLED about. all my bras are 34 ddd, and before i started losing weight they were becoming too tight and it was getting me really sad because they really make me look top heavy and i knew they were only growing as i was becoming more overweight. now, i fit into older bras that had become too small for me and my 34 ddd bras now have a little bit of room in them, and fit pretty much perfectly! it makes me feel so confident, and i’ve noticed that my posture is improving too! :)

ALSO, i fit into my jeans that were too tight for me on my birthday a month and a half ago!!

So sorry for the long ramble where I make a big deal about 7 lbs, but I’m just very excited and so so thankful to have found this sub.

i’d love to hear about how all of you are doing and what you have done this past week that you’re proud of. seeing all you strong and determined people working to improve your lives and your health is really inspiring.
