Ditching soda: update

31F 5’6” - CW: 212 SW: 234 GW: 150

Thanks to everybody who gave me good advice and encouragement in my last post. I gave up soda on the first of this year with the goal being to go the whole month of January without soda and limiting myself to one soda a week or less after that. Soda has been the elephant in the room of my weight loss for many years and arguably my only real addiction and I finally decided enough was enough, so this is an update. If anyone else is going through this, feel free to share your experience as well.

This has been super difficult. I literally have dreams about soda. A few days ago, a truck overturned and there was soda all over the highway near me. I passed an A&W and had to drive past it. I was cranky and full of cravings those first few days. But I stuck to my guns.

Other weird changes have happened. I lost another inch off my waist, although only 2 pounds on the scale. I have been ravenously hungry. I was doing OMAD with a multivitamin because that’s been what my body has naturally wanted but now I’m up to two meals with an occasional snack like carrots or a pear. I want caffeine less and I don’t want junk food the same way. I had a cheat day where I got pizza and wings after a particularly hard hike and I didn’t want nearly as much because low cal lemonade does a poor job of washing that stuff down. All in all these are pluses, and it’s doing a lot to shift my thinking about food as a source of pleasure and more as energy because I don’t have the same endorphin release without soda.

It’s so weird to see.
