Apparently because my BMI is "only" 34, my insurance refuses to cover any appointments with weight loss specialists, nutritionists, etc.
What a punch in the gut. I've been having a lot of trouble losing more weight for a long time now and I really wanted professional advice because clearly I'm doing something wrong in spite of my best efforts. I don't even want to think about what a specialist visit will cost me out of pocket and I just don't have that kind of money.
It pisses me off that I'm very much obese, but I still can't get coverage for weight loss-related visits. What kind of bullshit is that? How big do I have to be? Shouldn't being clinically obese be enough of a reason? I don't think my primary doctor will be much help, unfortunately - I've asked her about weight loss before and she just gave me very generic advice like eat more vegetables and keep a food journal. I really wanted help from someone who specializes in weight loss. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have about 50-60 more pounds to lose. I suppose in a way, being too "skinny" to qualify for coverage of bariatric/nutrition services is sort of like a compliment.
Here's to another year of plateauing, I guess. Not really looking for advice on my diet because I know the problem is just that I'm still eating too much. It just really burned my ass that my insurance feels I don't deserve coverage of weight-related medical services because I've lost too much weight. I'm surprised the stingy bastards even cover my eye exams since I'm only nearsighted and not totally blind with that kind of logic.
