Welcome parents of r/loseit to the weekly Parent’s Corner thread! This is a place to talk about how kids can affect your weight loss. I will be hosting this thread every Wednesday for the next few months. You can look for the thread every week by going to my profile through the sticked post.
This is the very first week of Parent’s Corner that I have run, so this week I want to kick off by getting to know the challenges your kids bring to the table for your weight loss adventure. Maybe you have a toddler who won’t eat anything but buttered noodles. Your challenge might be that you are still in the habit of making cookies every time your adult child comes over for a visit. Perhaps you just can’t seem to get boots on your crew to get out for a walk. Whatever your specific challenges are, I want to hear about them! I’d love to hear a little bit about your kids, too!
Future threads will be devoted to more specific topics, and I will use the information we talk about this week to tailor our discussions to the interests of the group. Please read and respond to comments in this week's thread to help promote discussion. My hope for this thread is that we can work together to share resources and strategies and to support each other to success in our individual goals.
A final note to any future parents reading - please join in our discussion! I think a lot of what we talk about should be relevant to you in deciding how to build sustainable habits that can carry over once you welcome children into your home, and we have the same goals in common: be healthy for ourselves and for our kids, provide a good role model for healthy choices, and give them the best start possible.
So let’s hear it! What unique challenges to your weight loss plan are you facing with your kids? I’ll get us started in the comments.
