Is anyone's else's goal weight NOT the thinnest you can possibly be?

My goal is to get 64 kg or a BMI of 24, from a starting weight of 73 kg and a BMI of 27. I was recently diagnosed with T2 diabetes and my GP suggested this goal and to get to it as fast as I could, and I felt it was reasonable. I've only told one person about my diagnosis and they reacted badly so lesson learned that the stigma about this disease is real and to keep it a secret from people. I've told someone I'm losing weight and they asked how much and when I said about 10 kg (22 pounds?) they said "That's just your first goal, right, you'll try to lose more after that?"

To be honest, I might not.

I have a history of eating disorders, both anorexia and binging/purging, and the only time in my adult life I've been able to sustain a BMI of between 19-21 was through very unhealthy behaviour, basically eating between 500-700 net calories a day and over-exercising. So I'm VERY aware that I could start slipping into bad thinking and bad behaviours if I get too obsessive about losing weight, and I'm in my 30s now and my body probably won't react as well to being starved as it did when I was in my 20s. (Yes, I know it's ridiculous to be fat and talking about having been anorexic, this is the sort of thing that people screen cap and post in mocking comments on other sub-reddits.)

If it turns out that I'm able to manage my blood glucose levels at a weight of 64kg (not just with diet but with exercise too obviously!), then I may not try to lose more, even though that's at the high end of the normal BMI, barely below the overweight range.

I can't lie, part of this is for a reason that's both practical and superficial. Over the last couple of years I purged my wardrobe of all my thin clothes after having accepted I'll never fit into them again. I have a limited budget and really can't afford to buy a whole new wardrobe, so if I'll be able to get away with keeping the clothes I've got and cinching stuff in with belts or getting items altered smaller, then that will make life a lot easier. Especially as I now have the added living expense of buying stuff to monitor my blood glucose (this isn't subsidised for type 2's who haven't been prescribed insulin, we have to pay out of pocket).

Like I say, this may change, and will have to change if I can't manage my glucose at this weight and need to lose more. But if I can avoid losing more than a couple of dress sizes, that will be the ideal circumstance for me.

Is anyone else not aiming for a weight that's the thinnest you can possibly be? Have you had any pushback from people about it?

Apologies if not aiming for the maximum weight loss is not in the spirit of /LoseIt. Bracing for downvotes!
