Is this normal?

I have been losing weight for over 4 months now. I’m very short and relatively sedentary, so it’s been a slow process and I’m averaging about .5 a week. I’m okay with this progress.

Something I’ve noticed over the past couple months, is that my weight loss is not linear at all. Each week, I’ll hit a new low on the scale and then my weight will shoot up the next day, then slowly back go back down until I hit a new low.

Here’s an example:

Day 1: 143.1 - new low

Day 2: 144.9

Day 3: 144.4

Day 4: 143.9

Day 5: 143.5

Day 6: 142.2 new low

And then the cycle begins again. I know in the long run, I’m still losing weight, but it can be a bit discouraging to log each day.

Does anyone else experience this type of fluctuation? Anyone have an explanation for it?
