This time last year I was 4 months out of college and my daily schedule basically consisted of waking up around noon, eating a giant breakfast/lunch, sending out a few job applications and then getting drunk and eating for the rest of the afternoon into the night. Every. Day. I didn't put on all the weight over just that span of time, in fact it was a relatively slow progression over maybe 2 years from a healthy weight around 150lbs up to my heaviest at 190lbs, but I packed on at least 20lbs in those 4 months and I'm sure it would've kept going had I not gotten a crappy warehouse job that ended up forcing me to walk 8-10 miles every day.
As much as I hated it, that job kicked off of my weight loss journey in a way that I definitely did not have the will power to start myself at the time. After losing nearly 20lbs in the first 3 months and then moving out of my hometown for a new job in my degree field where I wouldn't be moving around all day I knew that I couldn't go back to my old eating and drinking habits or I'd end up right back where I started. I tried using MyFitnessPal to track calories for awhile, but I eventually found it easier to just limit my drinking to 1 night a week (if at all) and simply keep only healthy food at home for myself to avoid snacking or binging on junk. Up until now that's all it took to keep slowly losing weight (barring a couple backslides along the way) and as of this morning I'm 33.7lbs down and almost back to my goal of 150!
I know this isn't nearly as big an accomplishment as alot of the posts I see here, but I'm pretty proud of myself so hopefully you guys will be too! I also wanted to share my experience just to show that its possible to lose weight with pretty minimal effort as long as you put a little thought into your grocery shopping, even if you have poor self control like I do. Cheers!
