130 Pounds loss and Sharing some tips (+progress pics)(long post)

Hi Everyone,

I have been a lurker here for exactly 464 days (MFP Streak) And am excited and a bit nervous due to this being my first big post here. I am apologizing now ahead of time for my bad formatting, and inability to write down coherent sentences. My starting weight was 315 pounds and i am currently at 185 pounds. And this is some of my journey with tips at the bottom that helped me along.

Progress pics: https://imgur.com/a/PR8J9OE for those who do not want to read my boring store :)

Tips: will be posting my tips on bottom of my story so if you are new here, please scroll past my story and check some of them out. You have found a awesome community here.

Roughly 464 days ago till this day i had poison ivy on my leg. Well what i thought was poison ivy and 2 doctors even told me the same thing. Until i finally see a good doctor and he tells me its a leg infection. That was cleared up very fast given the correct medicine for it, instead of just anti itch cream. I went back to this doctor later on for a check up, Having my leg inspected and all cleared up the doctor recommended me to have my weight checked and other simple trivial test done(due to me being a new patient). When i Stepped on the scale to see i hit 315 pounds my jaw dropped. I remember thinking to myself well i am wearing a hoodie(was cold out) and i had phone and wallet in my pocket that must be adding some weight.(i was in complete denial to think i got to 300 pounds. How could i not notice the weight gain, I am fairly active (i worked a lot) but when work was over i just went home and played video games. But seeing myself in the mirror i knew i was big, but not terribly big.

I knew there was no way i was going to stay that way. I remember as soon as i got home i googled easy/ fast weight loss. I soon came to discover this amazing place called /loseit. With a amazing community filled with amazing people sharing there stories. I have tried most fad diets through my life with mix results. But seeing the results on this subreddit was just inspiring. Still to this day i check this subreddit at least twice a week just to read people's stories. The reason i am posting this is so hopefully someone can read this and truly believe weight loss is possible. I know i wasn't the biggest but i was far from small, And i am truly grateful for this community for changing my life for the better.

That same night i downloaded MyFitnessPal and have been using it ever since. Now i had my ups and down throughout my journey but i must say i was so determined. I found i needed to eat 2000+ calories for 2lb lost a week. I decided to eat 16-1800 instead. (what a mistake losing weight way to fast has bad side effects) I lost 50 pounds very fast and was fatigued very bad because of it. I lost a lot of muscle mass and my work was suffering. So i did my research read up on this community and started to take my health serious. I started to eat what myfitnesspal recommended me and started taking a healthy approach to weight loss. I try to eat clean and when i go out stay responsible(most of the time at least).

Now i cut red meat out of my diet and replaced most of my protein with veggie based alternatives. (Thank you morning star veggie chicken patties for being so tasty) I am more active then i have ever been in my life. I am enjoying the nightlife now, heading to clubs with friends. I workout at least 4 days a week, i try to go everyday but i have other life goals to attend to as well. I Am going to get my first tattoo this Wednesday.(getting a Japanese tradition sleeve on my right arm). I can do pull ups now (one of my greatest goals i wanted to achieve). And currently looking towards a career in possible nutrition or personal training. Also taking skin removal surgery into possible consideration(found a place called medical tourism where i can possible get surgery affordably out of state, but well see i am giving myself a year to tighten up then i will decide. . I have so much to my story but ,i believe i summed it up enough.(at least the best way i know how) I want to live life to the fullest and owe this community my life back. I love life now and cant wait to truly start living it.

I must say weight loss will help with most issues when you are overweight, but not mentally. My attitude approved greatly but due to my past there is still plenty i must work on. If you are trying to lose weight please make sure it is for yourself and not anyone else. Everyday i look for new ways to improve and found it is fun doing so. I appreciate the journey even tho i am mad at myself for needing to go thru with all this. But this journey helped develop my body and my mind better for the future. So a part of me is glad i got to experience this. My journey is not over, but it sure is a great start to it.

Thanks for reading my story. There are plenty of stories on here but this is my own. Thanks for giving me a place to post it, and share my experience with others. Now i will post my tips below and some references to what helped me out throughout my journey.

Tips:

MyFitnessPal: App used to help count calories, and keep you accountable for what you eat.

Tip^: After i got comfortable calorie counting i found a easy way to mark my calories. I use "Fudge Pops" there 100 calories for 1 fudge pop. So say if i know my dinner is 600 calories. I mark that i ate 6 fudge pops instead of searching for everything. Only do this when i am 100% certain how much calories it is. Once you develop certain recipes it makes it a lot easier and less tedious to mark down.

Loser town Online Calculator: Website Link You log weight, height, activity level, and age and it will tell you how long it will take to hit your goal weight (roughly)

Tip^: Use Sedentary option even if you have a active lifestyle. You will achieve your goal faster if you are active but at least you wont hit that date not hitting your goal (if that makes sense :P).

Disregard negative opinions: Plenty of people will comment on your weight loss. some will be positive some will be negative, some will be negative with positive intentions. You know your body and your goals not them, the only person you should consult with is your doctor, Make sure you are losing/gaining safely.

TIP^: Smile even when you don't feel like it. Everyone sees me commenting on my smile, some negative some positive. I smile to let people know i am happy, I am confident, and even if i am not happy or confident i want to appear i am, Because That is what i want. Really consider your life and ask yourself what do you want?

Clothes:

  • Reward yourself with clothes as a reward, Going from poor fitting clothes to something that looks and feels good is a amazing feeling.
  • Do not replace everything just yet, I donated mote of my clothes then, when i dropped even more weight i felt my wallet a lot emptier along with my closet.
  • Buy 1 shirt/dress a size smaller, I always buy a shirt i like that is slightly to small, Then in a few months when i am looking for a outfit i find that shirt and attempt to where it. Sometimes its to small but when it finally fits OMG!!! The best feeling ever.

Time: The hard part is waiting for the weight to come off, At the same time you have other things in your life going on. Take your time and pace yourself so you don't get burned out. Keep to the process and you will get results. Focus on a hobby, friends, family, or whatever else you enjoy spending time on and enjoy life.

Thanks Everyone: For taking the time to check out my post. I wish everyone the best and good luck on your own journeys of life. If there is anything i could do due to help please let me know. I will respond to anyone on here or in a private message. If i do not reply right away, that means i am procrastinating in bed or running errands :) Have a good one.
