Today is a HUGE day for me. I have officially lost 20 pounds! From 225 to 205. I've never been able to lose weight before so this feels amazing! I started in September 2018 but only started CICO in April 2018 which really kick started my loss.

I held a 20 pound bag of dog food and I just can't believe I was carrying that around. No WONDER I feel so much lighter!

I thought I'd share a few things that have worked for me.

The most important thing to me is this community, and especially the discord. I have learned invaluable lessons... and I feel accepted, heard, and cared for. Their positivity for my triumpsh and true care for my set backs has been the fuel for my weight loss journey.

The biggest lesson is that losing the weight is not the end goal. Maintaining the loss is. This has put weight loss into a whole different frame for me. All of my struggles are actually practice for maintenance. Did I have a high calorie day? I'll have those in maintenance too. What a good way to practice getting back to my regular way of eating afterward! It's not always that simple, but I don't beat myself up when I'm not perfect anymore. I give myself a lot more grace and understanding.

I am starting to actually learn moderation! I can still have cookies, just maybe one or two instead of eight. I can still have pizza, just one night a week and not an entire pie. Or, I can do those things still, but not several times a week. It's all about learning balance and realizing that I can choose to moderate if I keep trying.

I NEED exercise in order to prioritize low calorie, high nutrient food. Veggies look better when I'm taking care of my body in other ways. I FEEL better when I eat that way. Plus, my fitness accomplishments are just as precious to me as my weightloss. I can do so much more!

Lastly, I found what works for me. I had a hard time making sure I was keeping to a good deficit, so I started tracking my overall deficit on a calendar. Not everyone needs that, but I do. The community is great for creative ideas to keep yourself motivated and accountable! It's ok to experiment and decide something isn't working for you and find something else!

SO SO SO excited, thank you to everyone in this community and especially on the discord. You are all really helping me know that this time I can lose the weight and maintain!

Now, onto the next 65 pounds of loss!
