I've got 1 more pound to go until I hit my goal of 60 pounds lost! I've been doing it since April, using CICO, running, and intermittent fasting AKA skipping breakfast. I continued to eat all my favourite foods but just in moderation. I've managed to maintain a fairly consistent 2 pound loss a week over about 8 months.
It's been both harder and easier than I thought. Transitioning into it is hard, and so is the constant 'ramping up' of the calorie deficit to maintain a consistent rate of loss. I learned that if you keep your deficit the same, you get a slowing rate of loss as you lose weight. I lowered my daily calorie intake whenever my rate started to slow a little, while slowly increasing the amount of walking and then running that I did each week. This meant that I could create a fairly decent calorie deficit, while still eating a satisfying amount of all my favourite foods.
I also learned that if you only eat two meals a day, you can have some pretty large and 'non diety' type meals while maintaining the deficit. It even leaves calories for having alcoholic drinks on the weekend, along with deserts and candy each week as well. This has been essential for helping me stick to it for so many months.
The last ten pounds were the hardest by far. I stalled for three weeks and thought my body had just lost interest in losing weight. I didn't want to lower my calorie intake any lower, so I just kept on increasing the amount of running until suddenly my scale snapped back into the regular rate of loss.
Is anyone else close to their weight loss goal? Does anyone have tips and advice for approaching maintenance? I'm a little worried about changing things up and switching to maintenance, just because everything has been working well for me for so long.
