New to weight lifting, any advice?

Hi all, I've never really done any weight lifting before but I have heard from a few people that weight lifting is a good addition to dieting for weight loss, so I've acquired some weights equipment and just looking for a little guidance?

I've got a long bar and 2 dumbell handles, and some plates. I have two 5kg plates, four 2.5kg plates, and four 1.25kg plates. I don't have any other stuff like the bench things or any holders so it'll all be stood up or sat on a chair/stool, I guess I could do stuff lay flat on the floor but unsure if that is even a thing that would be possible/advisable.

Is there anything you'd advise doing to start off with? Or point to somewhere you think is good jumping off point? I've looked at some youtube stuff but there's literally millions of videos and some have conflicting advice and I have 0 experience so can't really even guess at what is good or bad.

Sorry if this sort of thing isn't allowed, I had a look at the side bar but I couldn't see anything.

Thanks everyone.
