NSV for the first time, maybe ever, I wasn't self conscious or hyper aware when my friend was taking photos of me!

I was meeting with some friends a couple of days ago, one of them is a keen photographer and likes to capture candid pictures and natural interactions, basically just snapping while we're socialising, rather than posed photos.

I've been overweight most of my life, and as such, have suffered with poor body image and self confidence, so photos have always made me uneasy, especially if it involves anything below my shoulders, like full body pics etc. When I was younger I used to counteract it by making stupid faces or doing something dumb, it was a way of controlling my embarrassment and shifting focus from my weight. More recently I always try and get to the back of a group photo or hide myself with other people etc.

I've been focusing alot on losing weight (for health reasons primarily, but also for confidence), as well as exercising and changing my negative mindset to a positive one. Well, I'm at a point now where I don't hate my body, I've got work to do, but I'm no longer panicked when I see a camera. This weekend I was able to fully relax and ignore the fact photos were being taken, even when I could see he was taking photos I didn't feel the need to dive out of shot or try to camouflage myself, and having seen the photos I actually like all of rhem, even the ones from less flattering angles, and I guess the real measure is I haven't heavily cropped or filtered them when posting on social media. It's remarkable what a change or mindset and a healthy approach to food and exercise can do. Also, posting progress pics and seeing others in various weight loss and health subs has really helped me see myself from someone else's view, as well as seeing what a wide range of shapes and sizes human bodies come in, it really works wonders!
