One week and 2 lbs down... a whole lot more to go (48? 68? 78?)

So, I started getting serious about weight loss one week ago. I haven’t told anyone about my journey, so I’m looking to just put this out there. I know no one really cares, but perhaps the act of sharing will help me in this. If anything, it will serve as a record.

Starting at 228, I’m down to 225.8 today. Nutritionist gave me a goal of 1500-1900 calories per day, and with MFP, I’m shooting for 1670, plus additional for exercise. I’ve tracked everything that has passed my lips truthfully and faithfully since last week and I was right about at that goal for 5 days this week +/- 50 calories each day. I had one day I was at +100 calories over, and another where I was 150 over. By the end of the week, I think I’m feeling a little better. Hunger is manageable now (compared to the first few days) and energy is good. I know frozen meals for lunch aren’t the best option, but they’ve helped with portion control and planning. I’ve also done well enough with meal planning and sticking to the plan that I’ve had room in my calorie planning for a piece or two of chocolate from Valentine’s Day for the last few days and still stuck with the goal. This is a success given I was happy with a serving, whereas I probably would have eaten 4-6 last month. I guess that means my cravings are a little more in check. I’m also able to say no to all the junk food my kids have around that I normally cave at. So again, a win.

Ate out 3 times this week, which is a far cry from my normal amount (probably like 8x/week). On those days, I did a pretty good job compensating by having lighter lunches. I’ll call this a win. If I start to feel deprived, the wheels are gonna fall off this wagon, so I can’t go completely without.

Exercised 2x this week (which is typical). Tried not to eat back all the calories, as measured by my heart rate monitor, which was tough. Need to work on that. As you can see from my calorie intake, I did pretty good staying on target, but I know I should probably not eat my exercise calories back. I was just too damn hungry this week on those days. Again, need to work on that.

I’ve got a long way to go, but feel like the first week went pretty well. Hoping I can keep it up as I head on vacation.

How am I doing emotionally? I’m pretty pleased with how I performed this week. It wasn’t perfect, but it was good. Honestly, I know not to expect huge losses, but was still semi-hoping to see more than 2 lbs gone today. I see all the stories of people saying they are 5+ lbs down after first week, even though we all know it is mostly water. I know this is going to be a slow and long process, and I’m okay with that, but a girl can still dream can’t she?

Random Observation: holy cow, I think I’ve peed more in the last week than I have in the last month combined. Looked it up and apparently that’s a thing... who knew?

Goals for this next week: 1. Exercise 2x. 2. Stay at about calorie goal each day. 3. Don’t blow it while traveling. Make reasonable choices at lunch so I can have a more satisfying dinner (again, within reason).

Finally, not sure what my intended target weight goal is. 190 lbs is where I was before kids. In hindsight, that was pretty nice, although even at that time, I was looking to lose 10 lbs. I got married at 170 and although I was still overweight, I wasn’t that far from a healthy weight. 145 would put me at 22.7 BMI, which seems like a worthy target, but I haven’t been there since I was in high school and damn, that seems near impossible...

And with that, I’ll see ya next week.
