Good morning, Losers!
Like many of you, I have often turned to food for comfort in trying times. I've been having a really good run lately with my weight loss journey, but I've had a couple of trying days recently. The most significant was yesterday, when we met with my daughter's team of therapists for her annual review, required for state programs. It was so fucking depressing. I returned to work and immediately popped some desserts in my mouth. I was feeling crappy about it, but made up for it by eating a lighter dinner. Overall, a win. But it got me thinking - what is my non-food coping mechanism? Do I really have one? Is it solid and regularly used and effective? Um... no.
Here are some coping techniques I'll be trying out:
- Count to ten, taking deep breaths
- 54321 grounding
- Watching videos of babies laughing on youtube (sounds weird, but can be pretty great)
I know that exercise and meditation and yoga are all good coping techniques, but I'm really looking for more insight/examples/ideas on coping techniques for RIGHT NOW. Like, I'm faced with stressful situation, I can't go for a run or do a yoga class RIGHT NOW. What CAN I do? What do you do?
